It's not necessarily "the pride of the ace" but it's him saying "the players are playing the game not us". As the coach, he'll always try his best to make choices for the team to win but even if the ace does walk the clean up, that's not a guarantee of victory. It's not as simple as "do you wanna win or lose". If the ace can strike out the cleanup, who's at bat has become the climax of the game, that ace gains confidence and momentum for the team. Ochiai thinks too much in black and white and that's what I dont like about his coaching. People say he's logical but I honestly don't find him very logical at all lol
