Something of early access, I suppose. For the record, I'm not into dronification or latex beyond what they are now as a mental exercise for my design/concept skills.
So following a commission by Meredith earlier this year I ended up growing really attached to the guerrilla fighters in the background, and decided to take it to a proper design extent the same way I did with Shock Army and WT outfits. I decided that adding in latex as part of the outfit would be a really challenging design task for designing the outfit, both with how to render such a how to compose it with the rest of the outfit.
It seems that the trick to rendering latex is just layering highlights on top of each other and setting them to the Difference blending mode - that's how I can get the stretch marks and the dark areas around the highlights. It's kind of magical how easy it is once you realise this.
That aside, the trench was mostly inspired from goth men's outfits, though it's easy to miss what with the tactical-ness of it all along with the splash of pink needed for the Korps look. What's sort of weirdly fascinating for me is how goth fashion, as it's mostly black, relies largely on variation in texture in order to creat patterns and compositions. Latex, in a bizarre twist, ends up working to the strength of an all-black outfit by adding a contrasting material against matte fabrics.
And, like, what the heck, I will admit part of the reason I wanted to do this was because I know every time I do some concepting for Korps stuff I know their server erupts in equal parts excitement and confusion. Being Wintertide-aligned, I enjoy that.
Fun to keep people on their toes.
