20,000 subscribers Q&A video
Added 2023-10-19 06:45:01 +0000 UTC
Hi everyone, as promised, I have decided to follow youtube tradition and make a Q&A video to celebrate the channel rolling over 20,000 subscribers. I'm just about to put a public post calling out for questions on the YouTube community tab, but if you don't want to get lost in the crowd feel free to ask any questions you might have on this post instead!
I will most likely answer the questions over the top of a first-person walking video, as that will be pretty easy to produce and be thoroughly on-brand.
~Martin
Big congrats on 20k!
Do you think Melbourne should attempt double-deckers again?

Congrats on 20k and thank you for the great content. It has been 34 years since I spent a half year in North Melbourne and it is nice see few old sites and marvel at all that has changed. I can’t think of much in the way of questions, though I am always interested in the the story of how the spark of idea is developed into this creation.

Congrats on the 20 000!
If I have understood you correctly you do not work within Metro, Yarra trams or anything rail related. So my question is, have you ever concidered working within that field and if yes why did you not end up making a carreer within something to do with rail or trams?

Major congrats on 20,000! Here's to 30k and beyond!
Question I'd like to know, which might seem mundane but I feel as though you've never mentioned: what're your thoughts on the HCMTs, as well as I guess the way public transport is heading in Melbourne with regards to rolling stock (and maybe anything else)?

Congrats on 20k!
1) whats a completely out there, will-never-be-built public transport project you think would be cool?
2) whats your favourite video you've made and why?

No question, but that 20000 graphic is top notch.
It could be a Taitset jigsaw.

Thinking back to the early 2000s as a young fan, what real-world rail developments have you been impressed by, and are there any you'd hoped for that haven't happened?

Two questions to pick from:
1) Which future Victorian transit project are you most excited for?
2) In your opinion, is it necessary that the Comeng sets be replaced by 2030?
Congratulations on hitting 20k! I grew up in Melbourne along the Sandy line, so your videos feel quite nostalgic to me - I live on the Gold Coast now but am aching to move back...

If you had the power to make all PT commuters change one behaviour, what would it be?

Ooh you've got me thinking with that second one!

Two questions, feel free to pick either or both.
1) If you could bring back anything railway related, a line, a station, a train, tram, anything, what would it be?
2) If there was something transport related you really wanted to know, that was exposed on Wikileaks, what would it be?
Congrats on reaching 20k!

How much power does a train use? What’s the specs of the electric motors, how many motors, etc… love to know more about the technical info on the electric drive train basically

What would be your dream tram route extension? I’ve seen a lot of people recommending an extension to something like the 75 or connecting the 82 to the city, but I don’t see the point. I’d love an extension of the 82 down Brunswick Rd, maybe beside the Inner Circle path and connect it to Clifton Hill. I think Melbourne desperately needs more radial services, SRL is too far! Appreciate your thoughts

I've got 2 questions, please feel free to answer one, the other or both:
1) what draws you to rail transport, what hooked you on trains etc in particular?
2) Can you do a video on tram operations, specifically on how the points work? I'd love to know how the cab controls interface with the blades.
I love all your work and as a Melbourne local myself, it's gotten me much more focused on the goings on of the railways here.
