It is honestly a common trope to mention when ropes aren’t actual ropes and when they are made out of steel cables in companies where they are made out of cables, the reason it isn’t normally brought up is because it usually isn’t relevant, but it becomes relevant when a wrestler is using the ropes as a weapon, the reason that they were continually called ropes afterwards though was just because that’s just what you call them, kind of like you might call another brand of tissue a Kleenex even though that might not technically be what it is, it’s just common parlance, hope that makes sense.

2025-02-16 03:45:46 +0000 UTCHonestly that sounds exactly like what I have heard his character described as, to me, it’s the company’s job to get across the character, so what they tell me the character is, is what the character is to me, and I have explicitly heard many times on AEW commentary that it isn’t that Orange doesn’t care, it’s just that he’s lazy, so while the ice bath stuff might be a bit apocryphal, I think this explanation of his character is actually accurate.

He was AEW International champion for nearly a year, and the journey of watching him gradually “try” to defend the title and put more effort in the ring from a character perspective over the year and become great in the ring is what sold me on him. It was really great

2025-02-16 00:11:04 +0000 UTCI think the rope detail was part of AEW's effort to put over their ring as more dangerous than WWE's, just like they used to do with the ring posts, barricades, and saying X wrestler isn't used to it being that dangerous. When it comes to Pac, he's great and was presented as a top 5 guy in early AEW. I think he's great in the ring and good promo too. Then he kinda started only appearing sporadically up until the death riders.

A lot of people don’t like Excalibur because he has a know-it-all personality but it personally doesn’t bother me. Also, since nobody can collectively agree on Orange’s gimmick and since he won’t straight up tell us, I’ve come up with my own interpretation and that makes his matches more enjoyable for me. My head canon is that he doesn’t like exerting himself to the point of sweating. That’s why he keeps his arms at his sides and hands locked in his pockets. This way he doesn’t move his body as much. But he also doesn’t like pain. Once he’s taken enough damage, he accepts the sweat and starts moving fast and hitting hard to end the match as quickly as possible so he can go to the back and sit in an ice bath that matches his cool demeanor… It makes sense to me.
