Statblocks for Sieges

I don't often do content for DMs, but I've been doing a lot of research into sieges lately and it made me realise how lackluster the rules for them are in D&D. It's strange because, while WOTC went to great lengths in the DMG to inform us how much damage a cannon or a trebuchet might do and how they function in the game, they never bothered to tell us the stats of a stone wall, making those siege weapons completely redundant. In fact, in the Objects section of the DMG, we are explicitly t...

Commander Fighter Subclass

"Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat." - Sun Tzu, the Art of War

Presenting my first fighter subclass, the commander. This subclass is built around controlling the battlefield by granting buffs to your allies and frightening your enemies into submission. It's heavily customisable thanks to the list of seven different battlefield expertises you can choose from, each of which reflects a unique style of leading that ...

Poison Master Artificer Subclass

As someone who has played a lot of assassin in D&D, let me tell you this: poison sucks. It takes a long time to make, the materials to make it are difficult to acquire, and if you don't feel like you're making it yourself then it's very, VERY expensive to buy. Not only that, but unless it's a particularly valuable poison, it almost always deals too little damage or is too easy to save against to ever be useful. I've wanted to come up with a remedy for this problem for a long time, so when...

Bruise Ball

And now for something completely different: inspired by the strategy tabletop game Blood Bowl (the video game versions of which I've put an embarrassing number of hours into), this is Bruise Ball, a game within a game which sort of resembles American football but with a lot more hitting. Essentially, two teams of up to eight players compete on a pitch for control of a ball which they need to deliver to the opposing team's side of the pitch by any means necessary. Nothing is off limit...

Barbarian Totem Animals of the North

This expansion for the barbarian's Path of the Totem Warrior subclass is my first time working with a subclass that isn't my own, but I think the new animals I've provided here fit the subclass nicely. I'd like to do more expansions like this for pre-existing classes and subclasses in future, so hopefully you guys like it. This expansion adds options for the Mammoth, the Orca, the Penguin and the Walrus, as well as a guide on how to make spirits out of other various animals found in colder cl...

Coco's Homebrew Two Year Anniversary

A few days ago (oops) it was the two year anniversary of when I started this patreon! Let's talk about last year and the future.

2020

Well I'm sure you don't need me to tell you this, but last year was crazy. Not only were we all affected by the pandemic, I also had to complete my final year at University during all this craziness, which meant I had to slow my usual upload schedule between February and May while I wrote my dissertation. I graduated in June with a ...

Circle of the Sentinel Druid Subclass

Kicking off the new year with my first proper druid subclass! The circle of the sentinel is followed by druids who dedicate themselves to protecting the world's forests, and who possibly admire trees to the extent where they'd actually quite like to become one themselves. In battle, they can turn into gigantic juggernauts made of bark and branches, and as grass type Pokémon they can use Razor Leaf as well. In their sentinel form, they can't be bullied or bashed around easily, and even if the...

Physical Traits

So a week or so ago, I published a poll asking what sort of homebrews people would like to see more of next year. The most resounding response was for more subclasses (which I'm happy to oblige since they're my favourite thing to make anyway), but a close second was for more miscellaneous content for players. So, I've been working on something different which players can use for their characters called physical traits. This idea originally came to me while I was designing an older character, ...

Salogl Race

Continuing my crusade of making archetypal races that vanilla D&D lacks, I present the salogl, a race which resembles amphibious animals like frogs and salamanders. The salogl are small and humble folk who reside in wetlands, catching fish and insects and just generally vibing while the world falls apart around them. They also sport a unique, powerful skill: they have exceptional regeneration abilities which means they can heal on their turn after recieving damage. This regeneration gets ...

Far Domain Cleric Subclass

It's a bit late for Halloween, but this subclass is definitely inspired by eldritch horror. This is only my second ever Cleric subclass, although at first glance I wouldn't blame you for mistaking it for a Warlock subclass since it shares a very similar vibe with the Great Old One patron. Yet while GOOlock derives power from ancient beings which may or may not come from the far realm, clerics who choose this subclass are definitely drawing their divine power from the far realm. All of the fea...

Lycanthrope Subclasses

Click here for the lycanthrope class.

We're continuing spooky month with a collection of subclasses for my first homebrew class, the lycanthrope. I released this class back in March with 2 subclasses (the curse of the bat which you can see on the original post, and the curse of the wolf which I've included here), but I thought Halloween was a good excuse to make some more. So here is the cur...

Path of the Spirit Vessel Barbarian Subclass

Happy Halloween month! I love Halloween, and my October homebrews usually reflect that fact. This spooky subclass for barbarians allows you to willingly allow dead spirits of fallen warriors to possess you, giving you supernatural battle powers. With you and the warrior spirit working together, it can guide you while you rage and traumatise your enemies, turning you into a terrifying avatar of undeath.

This subclass took me a long time to make (most of October actually, oops) but I'm re...

Change in Currency

So Patreon have finally given me the ability to change the currency I'm paid in, so I've gone ahead and converted it from dollars to my local currency, pounds (GBP). This should not affect existing patrons, however new patrons from outside of the UK may be charged slightly more as a result. Hopefully this isn't an issue for anyone, but if it is I understand.

Florilia Race

I've always felt there are certain archetypes for fantasy races that 5th edition D&D never really covered, and a big offender of this was the lack of plant people. So, in an effort to somewhat remedy that, I proudly present the florilia, a race of creatures who look humanoid but look and act much more similarly to plants. The florilia are passionate about the natural world and above all else strive to protect it, drawing their strength from the light of the sun or the moon. Biologically, ...

Variant Background Features

This is something completely different to my usual content, but I'm trying to branch out more in what kinds of homebrew I make so hopefully you guys can get behind it.

The backgrounds in the Player's Handbook are all well designed, however I often find them to be too limited (I've lost count of the amount of times I've tried to design a character but can't quite find the right background to "fit" for them). I don't think solving this problem requires whole new backgrounds, however, beca...

Path of the Galloping Horde Barbarian Subclass

While I was designing a backup character for my current D&D campaign, I noticed how little options there were for characters who rely on a mount in combat. Since the character was going to be a warrior from a country largely inspired by feudal age Mongolia, it was essential that he had a horse. This became the inspiration for this subclass, which aims to provide barbarians with more ways to effectively engage in mounted combat.

The Mongolian Empire was formed from many nomadic tribe...

Dragonslayer Conclave Ranger Subclass

This is my second ranger subclass, but this time I tried to make something more in line with the new style of ranger subclasses presented in Xanathar's Guide to Everything. This subclass is designed around slaying dragons: while it was inspired by tales from folklore of heroic dragonslayers. its features are designed around overcoming the features that dragons possess in D&D. It's therefore a mix of both fairy-tale fantasy and practical combat utility, giving you features that should be u...

Siren Race

It's been a while since I tackled making a race, so I thought I'd try D&Difying a popular mythological creature: the siren. Sirens are most famous for their appearance in Greek mythology, where they attempt to lure famous characters like Odysseus and Orpheus with their singing. There's a lot of debate about what sirens are "supposed" to look like: in some stories, sirens look like ordinary people, while in others they have the features of animals, usually birds or fish. However, since D&a...

School of Rune Cutting Wizard Subclass

Here's my first wizard subclass, and it's a big one! My aim with this school was to provide players with a way to use runic magic that was more historically accurate than it is in D&D's lore, so I sat down and did a lot of research about what magic runes actually were. The history of runic magic is really interesting, so I even included some of my research in the subclass description for you guys (although unless you're a big old nerd like me you're not obligated to read it). Based on my ...

Bard College of Hunters Subclass

That's my epic tale
Our champion prevailed
Defeated the villain
Now pour him some ale!

This is my first bard subclass! It was a lot of fun to make and I'm really pleased with the end result. The College of Hunters teaches bards that there is no feat more valiant and worthy of song than a thrilling hunt. These bards are able to inspire their allies to help them take down fearsome foes, and even have the ability to enchant any... "memorabilia" they take from their epic battles. B...

Sphinx Patron Warlock Subclass

A less despicable patron than most, this subclass allows your warlock to buddy up and draw powers from a sphinx! Sphinxes work for gods, but they're extremely powerful beings in their own right as well: their poker faces are legendary, they have lots of wits as well as lots of strength, and they can even warp time and space. This subclass is very different to other warlock subclasses I've made before, so it was a refreshing challenge.

I'm still on a sort-of break doing my dissertation f...

Thoraxia Race (Expanded & Revised)

They're back and better than ever! For those who have been following me for a long time, you may remember the thoraxia, one of my first ever player races. Inspired by the game Hollow Knight, they were a race of cave-dwelling humanoids who looked like insects, and they came in all shapes and sizes. It was a fine race at the time, but when I looked back on it for my 2020-02-16 16:59:44 +0000 UTC View Post

Billing Paused from February 1st until May 1st

As the title says, I've decided to stop charging patrons from February until May. This is because I'm going to be devoting less time to my homebrew and more time to my final year dissertation for University, and I don't think it's fair to let you guys pay me while I'm not keeping to a consistent upload schedule. My dissertation is due on April 8th, which might seem like a long way away, but considering the amount of work a dissertation of this level requires it's actually not a lot of time, h...

Mad Artist Rogue Subclass

Happy new year! I'm breaking in 2020 with my first ever rogue subclass: the mad artist archetype. Mad artists are lunatics who see beauty in death and view killing as some kind of sick performance. This character trope is a personal favourite of mine, and has been around for ages and can be seen in all forms of media (think the Phantom of the Opera or the Joker). Mechanically, this subclass works differently to other roguish archetypes. While other rogues will sneak around in order to fight t...

Clockwork was a huge inspiration for me starting this patreon, so it was a real privilege to work with them on this. If you want to support Clockwork, you can check out their patreon 2019-12-26 18:45:44 +0000 UTC View Post

The Forgotten Race

The Forgotten are a very different kind of race to any other I've made before, as they are a very depressing concept. They are grey shades who wander the Shadowfell, born when someone is forgotten forever, and cursed with immortality to reflect this eternal loss. Their lives are full of hardships and mistrust, so they erase the memories of those around them to avoid being remembered by anyone. Unlike those that forgot them, the Forgotten also remember everything, although this great memory ca...

Halloween Monster Pack

Surprise! Here's one more Halloween homebrew before the holiday comes; a pack containing two spooky monsters. The fearmee is only a CR 1 enemy, but it's a wee bit complicated, as it can only attack things that are frightened of it. It tracks its prey using its keen nose and then terrifies them by transforming into their darkest fears. The corpse wolf, meanwhile, is a CR ½ creature which pretends to be a dead wolf to lure in its prey. The corpse wolf was actually one of my first ever NPC home...

Circle of the Dead Druid Subclass

My second Halloween themed subclass of the month, and my first druid subclass! In terms of design, the circle of the dead is similar to the circle of the moon, except with a dash of necromancy thrown in. This subclass allows you to become undead versions of all the beasts which moon druids can transform into, and is designed around the idea of overcoming and eventually even mastering death. I'm really happy with how this one turned out!
