That talent exodus is actually insane to think about. Imagine if Seth and Roman led an exodus of guys and girls from WWE.

2025-02-15 12:43:11 +0000 UTCReally intrigued to watch this at some point. My knowledge of Japanese wrestling is pretty minimal so having an excuse to watch some of these guys that Im only familiar by name is exciting. Most of the WWE matches you guys watch, even the WCW, ECW and TNA matches you watch, I almost always know who wins beforehand so it’s nice not knowing who wins these matches.

2025-02-15 12:42:19 +0000 UTCStan Hanson is a true legend, as well as my fellow Texan, but I think I’m going to have to take a little bit of an issue with the fact that he was called the most over westerner of all time, I’d say that he is tied with a few others for second place, those others being the Funks and Bruiser Brody, and for a brief moment in time, Bob Sapp, but even though he has been unfortunately a bit forgotten, the most over westerner was probably the Destroyer Dick Beyer. The Destroyer had huge matches with Riki Dozan that Drew incredible ratings, so I don’t think anybody has ever truly rivaled him as far as being the most over westerner, other than that, all I have to say about this submission is, man what a crowd, and man what a fight.

2025-02-14 01:50:31 +0000 UTCHansen still occasionally appears on some shows in Japan as a guest and doesn’t look a whole lot different to be honest, once a cowboy always a cowboy I guess. My favorite Hansen match ever is his cage match with Carlos Colon in Puerto Rico (might submit it in the future), but I’m fairly confident that cagematch is one of the first fill-ins on google because of the wrestling database website lol.

2025-02-12 21:57:45 +0000 UTC90s AJPW star wrestlers would always wear the same colors. So as a kid watching on youtube, I knew them as "Green guy" "Orange guy" "Blue Guy" etc. 😂

2025-02-12 00:02:12 +0000 UTCHavent Seen a late Hansen Match in a while. The immobility and the dad bod :D still worked. Whats interesting: Baba was always against pushing Akiyama to the Level of Kobashi, Misawa und co. As soon as he was dead and Misawa Got he book, Akiyama gets the Finish on Taue in a Tournament. Shows how much Trust Misawa Had in Akiyama.

2025-02-11 22:52:45 +0000 UTCStan the lariat Hansen. Haven't seen much apart from him vs Vader or otherwise just lariating the heck out of people. Jun akiyama looks so small here. Really cool to watch this

2025-02-11 20:47:58 +0000 UTCHansen was loved because he was essentially a Japan lifer. He would work Japan for 6-7 months, make his money, then go home to his ranch. He was one of the few westerners to become one of "Baba's Boys" due to his loyalty, and still gets brought over to Japan to do signings and whatnot in his 70s. Hansen and Taue were *technically* the heels here, yeah. But between Baba's death (Stan was considered Baba's last rival and partner), Stan's rapidly approaching retirement, and Taue being loved as one of the Four Pillars and the one inheriting Baba's Champion Spirit (Taue's Gown was painted by Baba just before his death, etc.) they were never going to get booed. The hardship for AJPW would continue into the new year. In 2000, Misawa, Kobashi, and Taue would lead an exodus to start their own company (Pro Wrestling NOAH) over a disagreement with Mrs. Baba on booking style. They would take the majority of the upper and mid cards with them, and AJPW had a really rough go of it for a while before they found their footing again.
