I'm pretty sure tapping out became a thing in wrestling at some point in the 1990s, with the rise of MMA and the UFC.

2025-01-23 12:01:02 +0000 UTCi wouldn't be against the idea if you guys were just to watch a bunch of old nostalgic commercials one day, maybe even some old wrestling commercials like the 80's wrestling toys.

2025-01-23 04:53:25 +0000 UTCIt is something I have noticed too. 10-5 years ago it was seen as cool to look down on old wrestling, with the whole indie boom etc. But I have also noticed a lot of people in their 20s start to respect and appreciate old-school matches and angles again. I had that tradjectory.

2025-01-22 13:52:05 +0000 UTCI agree. Not all of the ones they had after the first were bad, but it seems like they never were really able to recapture that kind of magic. Your favorite match of his is really good though, I think it’s awesome because we get to see Ric as a face, proving he can have great matches in either role. I think the Shawn Michaels match that your friend likes is a good match, but I think that’s mostly to do with Shawn. He had an underrated TLC match with Edge on RAW That one time though.

2025-01-21 03:48:46 +0000 UTCSo, the territories varied on the type of TV shows they did, based on the style in the area and what their territory was like. The old joke about the AWA was they did three angles a year and that's all they needed to do, while Memphis was turns, blood, and such happening weekly and much closer to a modern product, while other territories were somewhere in between.

2025-01-21 01:46:40 +0000 UTCThat’s a hard one, and surprisingly something I hadn’t thought much about. He has so many great ones, but I guess my favorite would be the one he had with Sting at the first ever Clash Of The Champions. in the ring, it wasn’t his best, but Ric made a superstar that night, and it’s incredible to watch what I think was actually kind of a lukewarm reaction for Sting at the beginning of the match morph into an absolute frenzy by the end.

2025-01-21 00:25:42 +0000 UTCI am just getting into WCCW as well and I absolutely love it. Theres so much in southern wrestling that people really need to go back and see. I also love the real classic stuff like stuff from the 50s and 60s you can find the wildest matchups on youtube.

2025-01-20 22:15:25 +0000 UTCDo it!!! I had forgotten about that one until you just mentioned it. I need more people helping me submit old stuff because I’m going to mix in some new stuff just so everyone knows I’m not a boomer, but man I just love wrestling, old and new alike. I have my particular tastes, but as far as what I would call regular meant to be taken seriously wrestling goes, I love the old-school style, and the new school style, and there are things that I think both do better than the other. One thing I will say, I miss whenever Wrestlers could throw convincing punches, that is truly a lost art form nowadays unfortunately, but in that same breath, I love how effortlessly and smoothly some modern wrestlers stack their moves like Gunther or AJ Styles.

2025-01-20 21:39:22 +0000 UTCSpeaking of, I was *so* close to submitting the Harley Race-Ric Flair bounty promo, but I want to wait until they see matches of everyone mentioned first, lol

2025-01-20 21:26:51 +0000 UTCWow, y’all sure do know how to make a fella feel like a boy who just brought home his first drawing to mom and dad. I appreciate how kind y’all were. As already was mentioned, a lot of wrestling back then was filmed in literal TV Studios of the local TV stations, Memphis was no exception. It was also common back then for wrestlers to put bounties on babyfaces to have other wrestlers take them out, and I wish it was done more nowadays, though it has been done sparingly in the modern era. Unfortunately due to problems with the NWA, Ric Flair didn’t actually return to the territory for another three years, but this was still awesome. I love the idea of a smart hero outsmarting the bad guy who thinks he is just so cocky and better than you only to get suckered into a false sense of security. I think we need more smart babyfaces in today’s wrestling, because nobody wants to cheer for an idiot. Anyways, glad y’all enjoyed, and God bless.

2025-01-20 20:04:02 +0000 UTCBro same. History and English were my two favorite subjects in school, so naturally wrestling history was and is right up my alley.

2025-01-20 17:37:17 +0000 UTCA lot of wrestling back in the day was filmed in actual TV studios that’s probably why it gives off an old school game show feel to it. I’m 21 I love that there are people around my age taking a interest to the history of wrestling. Growing up I always did well in history class so finding out wrestling history exists was awesome. I’m able to go on Tubi and watch stuff from the 1950s, go on youtube and watch interviews from territory wrestlers, the documentaries made about it are so good, etc. I hope in the coming years a lot of people my age take a look at the territories and want to learn more. There is a plethora of information and video of wrestling out there for anyone to see, you just gotta want to find it. When Tally Tiers open up again I’ve got a really good documentary on Florida wrestling to show yall.
