It’s like Stone Cold with hair. It feels like an alternate reality.

2025-01-10 04:34:35 +0000 UTCThat would be kind of based if you think about it, since that means that, canonically, Gunther is at least 14 seconds tougher than Brock Lesnar, which I think would do a lot to help put Gunther over, I mean, that’s one heck of an endorsement if you ask me

2025-01-10 03:39:32 +0000 UTCI thought about doing that but I didn’t want to spoil the fact both matches are so short by putting both in.

2025-01-09 15:03:45 +0000 UTCGunther might get to lose in 100 seconds instead of 90? lol

2025-01-09 14:05:40 +0000 UTCThis + WM33 could have easily been a double feature. I’m sure it will come soon.

2025-01-09 09:16:57 +0000 UTCAll of us loved it at the time, it was so hype and unexpected, but as wrestling fans, especially in the 2010s are prone to doing, they decided that Goldberg wasn’t cool anymore, and it took them a grand total of three months, but everyone agrees that the wrestlemania match they had after the one you just watched Was as good if not better than the squash. Goldberg has always been good in short bursts, he has an intensity like no other that when played correctly creates some awesome moments, and with the right opponent, he can have genuinely good matches, but for the most part, he should just be killing people And not selling a whole bunch, because unlike Brock, he doesn’t do it quite as convincingly. I don’t know how this whole thing with Gunther is going to turn out, but I have faith in the WWE to do a good job with it.

2025-01-09 05:42:45 +0000 UTC2019. Goldberg concussed himself and nearly killed Taker. To me, that match being a disaster is almost all Goldberg’s fault.

2025-01-09 02:32:23 +0000 UTCFun Fact: both Goldberg & Brock played in the NFL for there home state teams Goldberg played for the Falcons and Brock played for the Vikings and Brock was in Madden 06

2025-01-08 21:21:02 +0000 UTCThis was great at the time! Wasn't expecting it at all. Also, I forgot about the camera cut. I almost laughed my cofee trough my nose when I saw it. It was too funny.

2025-01-08 19:49:00 +0000 UTCTheir first match was hated cause they were both leaving, Brock to Football and Goldberg cause of HHH and his bookIng on Raw. watching that Mania match you can tell neither cared for nor was into it. i'd say watch it for Stone Cold as ref . i haven't watched the match in 21 years(damn) but remember Austin being Austin and handing out beers and stunners which as an AE fan was good enough to see with Austin stunning Goldberg and even Brock considering the KOTR situation.

2025-01-08 18:51:38 +0000 UTCAt WrestleMania 20, the fans found out that both Brock and Goldberg were leaving the company after their match, which they got booed off the building. Both wrestlers had issues with the WWE, and everyone thought they would never come to the WWE. In 2012, Lesnar made his return after his UFC run. And in 2016, WWE were promoting their 2k game which mentioned Goldberg as DLC, which it was insane because the last time we heard about him was back at WrestleMania 20 (2004). So originally this was supposed be a one and done, but Goldberg decided to get back into the business.

2025-01-08 18:42:43 +0000 UTCI think the original plan was for this match at Survivor Series 2016, then for them to meet in the 2017 Royal Rumble and Goldberg eliminates Brock almost immediately. Then that starts the build to the match they had at WrestleMaina 33. But some time after the Rumble Vince being Vince decided to take the title off of Kevin Owens by being beat by Goldberg. Also it shouldn’t go unsaid that the build that Kevin and Jericho had was one of the best built feuds and should’ve been the main event of WrestleMaina 33.

2025-01-08 18:18:58 +0000 UTCIt was Lesnar’s first loss since he broke The Streak at Mania XXX and his first loss since Mania 29 in 2013 when Triple H beat him.

2025-01-08 18:07:23 +0000 UTCI was gonna suggest this at some point. I hope someone suggests their Mania 33 match too. Tally’s reaction is very much the reaction a lot of us had when this happened. Do yourselves a favour and just type in Survivor Series 2016 reactions on YouTube and skim through to the end (it’ll be the most viewed part I’m sure) and see how people reacted at the time. My favourite is my favourite pod Steve and Larson’s Going in Raw, specifically Steve’s reaction to the pin.

2025-01-08 18:06:08 +0000 UTCSo a fun fact regarding the ending bit to this video, yes Brock was a wrestler first, a very accomplished amateur wrestler along with his friend and roommate Shelton Benjamin. And then in 2002 he went to OVW (basically the NXT of the early 2000s) which was headed up, booked and led by Jim Cornette. Notable peers of Brock’s would include “The Prototype” aka John Cena, “Leviathan” aka Batista, and Randy Orton. Brock came into the business surrounded by equally talented people who would all go on to achieve incredible success wherever they went in whatever they did.

2025-01-08 18:01:07 +0000 UTCFrom what I remembered from this, Brock was pretty much at his peak kayfabe wise being the most dominant wrestler in the company. However, a lot of his matches were really repetitive with it just being German suplex and then F5. Some people just kind of got bored of him, and I think he wasn't even full-time as well. Goldberg returning and squashing Brock here was an amazing moment mainly because it was shocking and pretty refreshing to see Brock get squashed. Unfortunately, Goldberg's run would also end up suffering the same problem that even the crowd would turn on him if I'm remembering correctly.

2025-01-08 17:50:57 +0000 UTCEveryone was all in on Goldberg until he beat kevin owens for the belt because kos fued with jerico was the best thing in the company at the time

2025-01-08 17:41:25 +0000 UTCGreat submission. The most hilarious part of this is that now Goldberg's son, Gage, is a linebacker at the University of Colorado.

2025-01-08 17:38:52 +0000 UTCEveryone was into Goldberg's return cuz it felt like it was one of those burned bridge situations after their match at Mania 20. So his return was mind blowing at the time. It led to a cool little mini feud into that year's Mania which was a lot of fun. Brock is definitely willing to do business when he feels like it makes sense and there's money in it. Also, I'm not one to dunk on Def Rebel, I think they're fine. But Goldberg's theme was just very different compared to everyone else's at that time so it stood out a lot.

2025-01-08 17:32:40 +0000 UTCThis was fucking awesome. I remember people online not being super excited by the idea of this match, which made me not really care for it in the lead up, what with it being a part timer facing a guy who hadn't been relevant for a decade, and their last match (which I have not seen) being hated on, but as soon as Goldberg hit that first spear I loved it. Unfortunately though one of only two good things to come out of Goldberg's return to the ring, as a few months later he would win the Universal title from Kevin Owens to set up a rematch with Brock for the title, which derailed Owens vs Jericho's feud and relegated that to being for the US title at 'Mania rather than being in a world title spot, then a couple years after he beat The Fiend for the same title for a cheap Saudi pop only to lose it again a month later once again. The only other good thing he did after this was his match against Dolph Ziggler at SummerSlam 2019.
Charlie
2025-01-08 17:26:09 +0000 UTCI was so shocked when this match happened. Never in a million years did I expect to see Brock get squashed by anyone, much less a returning Goldberg. To answer one of your questions, people soured on Goldberg about a month after this when Vince decided to have him beat Kevin Owens for the Universal Championship. Most people felt like the Jericho and Owens feud deserved the title more and that having the belt added little to nothing to the Brock vs. Goldberg feud. Oddly enough, that decision directly impacted AEW being as successful as it was at first. Vince promised Jericho a title match at Mania, and him going back on his word caused Jericho to not re-sign with WWE. Instead he went to NJPW, where he met the Young Bucks, and the rest is history.

2025-01-08 17:25:12 +0000 UTCwe were all fine with goldberg up to this point, then he squashed Kevin Owens for the universal title, had a match with undertaker that almost killed both of them, and then beat the fiend bray wyatt for the universal title. So lets just say, we didnt like Goldberg for long
Matt Thunder
2025-01-08 17:11:57 +0000 UTCThis was especially shocking at the time because at that point, Brock not only squashed Cena to win the WWE Title, but Brock also broke THE UNDERTAKER'S MANIA STREAK
