Well, this aged very very well lmao

I think the finisher take is fair. I do think there are times where it goes over the top (I've felt this way sometimes with NXT black and gold and AEW matches). I can agree that if you're gonna kick out of finishers, then the next couple spots has to be even better to end the match. But, I don't think that always need to be the case. Finisher kickout can be a great way to tell the story of "exhaustion" and going past your limit and even lose in the very next spot by simply just getting hit with a finisher again. Michaels vs Taker @ wrestlemania 26, Ospreay vs Swerve @ forbidden door. I also just think wrestlers should try to have more than just 1 finisher. 1 super protected finisher, and maybe 2 others that would commonly end a match but wouldn't be as protected. If Ospreay ever decides to win some matches with the Styles' Clash, that would be dope imo.

Matthew

That's a great point. After so many matches together, it's going to be switched up so you don't know what to expect.

It was the 2 best wrestlers from the UK, wrestling for the UK title, in the UK for the last time as Will was going to AEW. I understand why the finisher kick outs can be annoying but I think this was fair, although it could have been done better as it sort of came out of nowhere.

This is a weird one but you should watch zsj vs Jordon breaks at Rev pro

The only similarity between the TV title and the Speed title is that both titles have a time limit. Zack was quite high on the card at the time, on a similar level to Ospreay. Plus, this was the main event of a PPV in the UK and both guys were treated as 'home town guys'. It would be the equivalent of Sheamus kicking out of a Glasgow Kiss and a Claymore from Drew in the main event at Clash of the Castle for the Intercontinental title.

Beyond the discussion of finishers, I really do, just love this match hehe. I Love the contrast of style between the two, I just find it so satisfying and compelling how Zack is able to counter all of Will’s flashy offence into different positions, like the handspring enziguri into the ankle lock. When two styles can meld, it just pops me. But my love pallet for wrestling is so wide and easy to please tbf hehe.

First: I love this match, NJPW matches hit a special neuron activation in my brain hehe. Second: When it comes to the general discussion on Finishers and Finishes. I think I’ve simply come to the conclusion that it really doesn’t bother me that much, especially if the match is really good before hand. It’s just simply something I truly couldn’t give an F about if I liked the match. It can be funny like some NXT Takeover matches, Young Bucks / Ospreay matches or Cody’s Crossrhodes, but again, at most, I find it more funny. But so often, The adrenaline rush carries me through the match and as long as the actual finish is a finish at all, even if it is less insane and feels like a natural ending. It’s also something even if I did care, i wouldn’t look at as a mutually exclusive thing for every match ever. Some times, it even fits a character of match for one last kick out to show a Characters inner strength. Because at that point, yes, the person that’s losing has already lost, people like Orange Cassidy and Will Ospreay here do that where they kick out but most of them are futile, it shows that the character (usually a face) still has the fight in them, still wants to win but they have just been bested, their body busted, I think it helps with more nuanced finishes and gives more finality and closure to the match, at least to me. But that’s just my perspective and I’m just writing this as my brain thinks, I don’t have perfectly written notes to explain why my opinions are correct or anything. Just how my brain understands and likes wrestling. It often doesn’t make me Salty or nitpicky, usually again because i enjoy the match anyway. If I didn’t care about the match, promotion or wrestlers involved nearly as much then I may feel differently. But as of right now, I just feel comfortable saying that it’s really not something I care about or even think about most times hehe

While I understand your point about protecting the finisher, you got to take into consideration, this was their seventh time in NJPW facing each other in singles competition. Ospreay has already beaten twice ZSJ with the HIdden Blade -- Stormbreaker combo, in theory (or at least King's Road theory) you have to become stronger and not be defeated by the same move the next time you receive it. So you have to escalate the violence with a new more devastating finisher (like the Tiger Driver that he did not have in his arsenal at the moment) or perform the already known finisher a few more times to really bring down their opponent.

This is going to be awesome!
