I'm not sure what this promo at the end was about, it probably shouldn't have been aired and stayed as something just for the in house crowd. I'm pretty sure Cena is wrestling in the very next ppv so I don't think he took much time off either. I see people complain about this being an example of Cena Wins Lol, but like, that's just wrestling booking. The reigning face of the company overcomes insurmountable odds to beat the foreign invading heel. Brock beat himself by deviating from his winning gameplan and playing to the crowd when he could have been conquering and winning instead. Now that promo at the end though, that's some nonsense that shouldn't have happened on air

2024-12-17 05:44:41 +0000 UTCI think I can roughly explain why this was the correct decision Should this have been Lesnar's first match back in the company? Honestly no but the decision is perfect. Cena is the Ace and you put him in a position here where he has to either win to keep the monster at bay or he has to lose The ace cannot lose to the Invader without getting his win back which is classic Wrestling situations. And Brock made his one mistake and cost himself. I completely see why some people would see it differently tho That being said it makes SummerSlam 2014 the perfect sequel to this match Because a certain beast doesn't make the mistakes he did here

2024-12-17 05:43:15 +0000 UTCWhen Lesner went to UFC he was actually taken fairly seriously. There where definitly a few people who had the mindset of him just being a fake wrestler. But because of his record in collegiate wrestling people took him a bit more seriously for the most part

2024-12-17 04:23:22 +0000 UTCNow see you mention them painting the year between 28 and 29 as the worst of Cena’s career, I don’t think him winning MITB was that bad because he ended up losing it. That could have played into the story that Cena got lucky winning MITB but blew it when it came to the cash in.

2024-12-17 03:25:37 +0000 UTCI remember at the time when there were rumblings of Lesnars return. I was like “Imagine if Brock came out during Cena vs Rock and F5ed one or both of them. That’d be wild!” Brock wouldn’t be by himself for very long as after this match he’d break Triple H’s arm and on May 7th, Heyman would return for the first time in over five years.

2024-12-17 03:00:04 +0000 UTCI think Cena beating Brock is just classic wrestling booking of the company babyface overcoming the invader. Paul hits on the idea of Brock wanting to make the WWE more "legitimate" in his synopsis, this was a match about the ideals of the company itself, in which Cena protected them from the outside force.

2024-12-17 01:31:04 +0000 UTCThis is what people are talking about when they say “Super Cena”. I can think of no rational reason Cena should have won here. It was Lesnar’s first match back, he was the biggest draw in combat sports history at the time. And they also tried to paint the year in between Manias 28 and 29 as the worst year of John Cena’s career, even though he immediately beat the company’s newest monster the second he showed up, won MITB, and won the Royal Rumble. And I’m not even saying this is a bad match. It’s an awesome match, but I have no clue what Vince was thinking when he decided to Cena should win.

2024-12-16 23:12:12 +0000 UTCNot to also mention, selling is also to make your opponent look strong. Which I believe sometimes is one of those things wrestlers themselves think about when they are in a program with someone. That's why I can understand Brock getting upset. He probably went into the match under the assumption that he'll still look strong in a loss with Cena selling like he can't stand or walk anymore. But because Cena didn't really sell post-match and even went to cut a promo, it made Brock look "weak" in a pro wrestling sense

2024-12-16 22:40:13 +0000 UTCehh I think we can agree to disagree with that. I get what you mean, but I personally think it's better seeing a babyface still selling even after a win. When they're capable of selling even after a fight, it showcases that they just went through a hard fought battle, whereas if they just stopped selling or barely sell, it makes everything that happened in the match feel kinda meaningless and less impactful. That's also the beauty of selling in pro wrestling imo, it makes every move that happened in the match feel like it mattered. CM Punk vs Drew McIntyre at Bad Blood was a perfect example of it. Punk won, but he still sold really well after the match to show how much of pain he just went through.

2024-12-16 22:31:39 +0000 UTCI mean that's actually what improves it Cena is battered and brutalized but through it all he keeps his head up high It's an immaculate Babyface reaction

2024-12-16 22:25:03 +0000 UTChe prolly overreacted, but I get the sentiment. This match I feel like was suppose to make Lesnar look really strong, and when you have Cena going through hell but by the end of the match looking like he just wrestled a regular 20 minute match, it kinda defeats the purpose. Obviously to viewers, it's not that big of a deal, but it is one of those little things that enhances pro wrestling. I would imagine wrestlers taking it as a big deal
Matthew
2024-12-16 22:10:44 +0000 UTCI mean he did but Lesnar is a bit of a child and wanted more💀

2024-12-16 21:28:44 +0000 UTCThe thing about this match is that there's little details about it that truly make it one of my favorites Cinematography here is very good- Kevin Dunn is a truly atrocious backstage guy to be in charge of production But there's a moment here where Cena crawls in the ring at a normal angle before the camera man get down low and films a shot where Lesnar looms above Cena, beautiful And I know people complain about the ending where "Cena wins lol" but it's how we get there Cena didn't win here he lucked out Lesnar made one too many mistakes, it had been 8 years it made complete sense. First he injures himself with that psychotic dive off the stairs but in this moment he stops trying to be an MMA guy, starts playing to the crowd and decides to do it one more time for more fun and that costs him everything here. Cena got his one lucky shot in and survived. Back then wrestling just did not interest me but this reminded me why I care. The story of Cena trying to overcome a bear mauling him. Beautiful pro wrestling

2024-12-16 21:25:49 +0000 UTCSo this match is kinda funny. From what I heard, Brock got upset at Cena after this match because Cena allegedly wasn't suppose to cut that promo in the end, but he did it for some reason. I think Brock had the idea that Cena was suppose to sell really hard after the match to show how strong Brock did damage to him, especially considering how much more offense Brock got in this match. But Cena didn't really sell and decided to cut that promo.
