2024-12-14 02:42:18 +0000 UTCGlad you guys enjoyed it, this was the start to a very lengthy Io/Iyo reign of like 500+ days. I believe this reign was what put her on the map for the more hardcore wrestling fans that was watching wrestling across different promotions and around the world. She would put on some of her best matches, especially a legendary rivalry against Mayu Iwatani in which maybe I'll recommend a match next month. In terms of if Iyo had that strong debut moment. I don't think she did. Not one that would rival AJ Styles, Asuka, or Shinsuke. She was considered in the tier of "best in the world" from hardcore wrestling fans but I don't think WWE was marketing/presenting her as this next big thing. However, she did have a really strong and memorable main roster PPV singles match debut against Bianca Belair at Backlash 2023 where she was completely over with the crowd and a match that most likely caused the WWE to treat her more seriously.

2024-12-13 22:37:03 +0000 UTCThe first event I watched getting back into wrestling as a young adult Summerslam 2022 was Iyo Sky and Damage CTRLs debut. I didn't get their wrestling ability but I saw that they were a group to be on the lookout for. Since then Iyo Sky really showed me countless times why people love her in ring work. All of the choices she makes aren't for me at all but she rarely makes those choices and is focused on actually wrestling. When WWE finally does a big show or ppl live in Japan the pop Iyo will get will be massive.

It also got me thinking; I wonder how many people got into joshi wrestling from seeing wrestlers like Asuka, Kairi, and Iyo in WWE? People like me talk about how it's a shame to see them in WWE, doing less (relatively) less spectacular matches than they did in Japan. I think though, these wrestlers still make it work, they still put on the odd banger, and they're a wonderful entryway into a great part of wrestling. So maybe it's for the best. or if a young girl can watch WWE, see those wrestlers, and know that hitting those heights is even possible, that's always gonna be special.
