2024-10-24 21:32:39 +0000 UTCThat match was freaking incredible. Kudos to the two of you who recommended this and the last one. I loved me some early ROH but for some reason this era had passed me by somehow. Unexpected gems like this are one of the main reasons I love this Patreon.

2024-10-24 21:30:22 +0000 UTCThe Steen/Generico vs Young Bucks match they watched right before this was the one where Steen turned on Generico at the end. I didn't know all the specifics of the feud since I wasn't watching as regularly at the time, but I did make sure they had at least some context.

2024-10-23 01:49:56 +0000 UTCAbout the finish it mirrored to the exact moment Steen turned on Generico, with a chair shot to the head. Steen tried to plead with his former tag team partner by using Generico's vintage mask, it was like he "wanting" his innocent & energetic friend back. Unfortunately, the vicious Generico would not fall onto that trap. After the match you can see Generico put on his old mask instead of his black one, like the warrior taking off his armor, he got his sanity back

2024-10-22 17:47:07 +0000 UTCSomebody might put better context for this match, but i get to explain a bit: - This match happened at the same event, one year to the night Steen turned on Generico. Between these two matches, they already faced off a couple of time either singles or tag match with different stipulations. - Most of the time Generico either refused to fight or unable to bring himself to finish his former friend, hence why their matches ended with either Steen getting his hand raised or Generico winning via DQ. It was until a brutal attack & unmasking that Generico made up his mind & decided to finally stand up against Steen. Tally did point out Steen holding Generico's mask that he stole, Generico was going into this match with a new black one that fit his darker & more violent side - This match is the culmination of their year-long rivalry, as Generico put his mask & identity on the line against Steen's ROH career (though he would find a way to return to the company & even won its top title). Interestingly, while this was meant to be the end of the feud, they would meet up for the one more time at the same event 2 years later, this time with the world championship at stake - As you pointed out, this seemed to be a No DQ match. Fight Without Honor is ROH's ultimate match type only used to resolve the top & most personal rivalries, it can be compared to WWE's Unsanctioned match where there's no DQ, no count-out & the company won't have any responsibility for the risk of the involving competitors - Final Battle is ROH's Wrestlemania, annually held at the end of the year

2024-10-22 17:18:36 +0000 UTCThat Brainbuster on the turnbuckle was El Generico's finisher before going to WWE. He used it against Gunther at WrestleMania this year. The stipulation of the match was that if Kevin won, El Generico would have to unmask and if Generico won, Kevin would have to leave ROH (though he eventually went back). This was the main event, so fortunately no one had to follow it. Final Battle was always ROH's last show of the year and one of their bigger ones. Most years, it was in the Manhattan Center (either in the Grand Ballroom where these two matches were or in the Hammerstein Ballroom where the ECW One Night Stand shows were).
