2024-10-18 22:55:14 +0000 UTCOh and yes there were shenanigans throughout lol. I loved the ref dropping down to avoid being bumped leading to stan lane body slamming one of the fantastic on the outside. The tag rules were more rigid back then which would lead to creative things like that

The NWA is the original governing body over all the territories and the people who ran each territory were apart of the NWA. Some people weren’t and did their own thing, some people were forced out but usually if you were running a territory you had some connection to the NWA. So the promotion was called World Championship wrestling but the governing body over it at the time was the NWA. I’m reading a book right now called Death of the Territories about how everything was started how it progressed and eventually how the territories died due to Vince going national. The rings back then had a lot less padding on them and you could hear the bumps a lot more. In certain territories they would have differently made rings. In one territory the ring would be not bad to land on and in others wrestlers would hate to take bumps in them. It just depended on where you were and how it was built. In certain places speaking to the types of people who would go you would have people with regular seats each week they sat in. If you watch Mid South wrestling on Peacock there’s this one old guy on the front row usually with a cowboy hat and smoking a cigarette. He’s there most weeks, in the same seat or close to that seat, and he doesn’t react to nothing 😂It’s funny when a really big high spot happens or something explosive and the whole place is jumping up and down and the cowboy hat man is just sitting there chilling smoking a cig😂
