This match was so important to establishing AEW as an alternative in the minds of fans: WWE had been dire for so many years, there was a lot of push back about the PG rating (which had been in place for 11 years at this point), and so many people were clamouring for mainstream wrestling to be exciting again. This blade job, excessive as it was, was a mission statement that this new company was going to be different. I have issues with AEW, but I am so thankful it came about. Otherwise god knows how many Fiend/Seth Rollins HIAC 2019 type things the average wrestling fan would've endured.

2024-09-23 06:35:11 +0000 UTCAEW gave wrestling a second chance and the things WWE fans love these days, when WWE just used it as a tool to enrich themselves.

2024-09-23 02:30:38 +0000 UTCExcalibur did get it wrong, that move Dustin did was the Final Cut, it’s something he had done in his most recent wwe run before he left for aew. I’m not sure if he still calls it that though. He also used to use the curtain call in his original goldust run which was a lifting reverse ddt. A lot of the names of his moves as Goldust were movie production terms

2024-09-23 01:20:04 +0000 UTCI had the honor of being at this show. So happy I got to be there for the launch of AEW. On a show that was super fun from top to bottom, this was the absolute highlight.

2024-09-23 01:19:18 +0000 UTCAlso around the 34 minute mark, you have seen Cody use that move once in WWE, against Logan Paul. I don't know how many times he did it in aew, but he did it at least twice

2024-09-22 23:56:47 +0000 UTCI don't know if you noticed but Justin said "Cody with Brandi Rhodes" that's because between 2016 when Cody was granted his release until 2020 Cody couldn't use the Rhodes name due to WWE. So.he was just called "Cody" instead of Cody Rhodes

2024-09-22 21:54:58 +0000 UTCYeah the announcers called that move wrong. The first thing Dustin did when they said it is actually called the Final Cut

2024-09-22 21:49:27 +0000 UTCCody destroying that throne was a shot at HHH and WWE. That was HHH symbol on that throne

2024-09-22 21:16:51 +0000 UTCIt’s still kinda surreal to see how massive of a star Cody has become. The days of Dashing Cody Rhodes feel so long ago and yet it wasn’t. He’s always had the talent, he just needed to find himself
