Disturbing the delicate balance

My boyfriend is very precise in how and when he eats his food. I am not as calculated in how and when I eat his food. Also I just now noticed the missing K in the text. Oh well.

Back to the regular

I have a handful of specific chocolates that I have arbitrarily decided to assign as "christmas chocolates", that are only allowed on christmas because they're special, and they make christmas special. Each year it's my mission to consume enough of them during the holidays that I will not want to see or smell a piece of those things for at least 11 months.

Greed: A drama in three acts

We watched this exchange happen, quite exactly step-by-step. I took the artistic liberty to depict one of my boyfriend's family's dogs as completely black (he's mostly black, with very small white patches at the chin and chest), and the other as completely white (though he's roughly 50-50% black and white) to make the comic clearer. Nonetheless, they have two dogs, who habitually try to take each others' things and treats despite of both being given identical ones (somehow they'll usually agr...

Christmas Vacation

Well, I'm off to celebrate the holidays with loved ones, and won't be back again until January. See you all next year!

Next year's problems

Every time I get a comic idea - or even half of an idea - I write it down to the notes app on my phone, and sometimes they float there half-cooked for months, until I figure out how to flesh them out. There's a lot of comics that were born by me relaising that two half-ideas can be combined together for one whole idea, this one included.

I wanted to make a comic about my favourite part of the holidays - the fact that for almost two solid weeks, all my problems are ne...

Arctic foxes

My boyfriend is built for the cold. A human version of those sled dog breeds who will happily sleep face down in the snow and hates coming back indoors.

A serious game

My boyfriend does airsoft. Indoor games are pretty rare in Finland, as there are only about three permanent indoor game fields. Last weekend there was a game in an old building that was due to be taken down, so getting to have a game there was a rare treat.

I don't play airsoft myself, since all the things that my boyfriend likes about the game are all the things that I loathed about the experience when I tried. We're both fine doing our own things with no pressure to either drag the o...

Inside thought

Sometimes the simplest comic concepts are the most challenging ones to draw. This is an extremely simple joke but it's carried entirely by Blue's expression in the last panel.

Abstract textures

For reasons beyond my own comprehension, I spent this entire day making these. I had things I was supposed to do, but alas.

Acquired tastes

There's these little snack bar cookies (most likely meant for meal prepping) in the store that taste exactly like an old stale gingerbread house. I like the taste of an old stale gingerbread house. My boyfriend does not want to let me eat old stale gingerbread that's been sitting on a side table gathering dust for a whole month.

Grumpy hours

I grew up in a household where the response to someone clearly being mad about something but refusing to say why was responded with either taking it personally, or by harrying the person who is mad for no reason until you've pried the truth out of them - or wrangled them into saying whatever they think you want to hear.

It's been so freeing being able to learn that people can just be in a bad mood for no particular reason in peace. That I can just be bummed out for no real reason witho...

Curls

I've got a home perm box in my closet, waiting for the day I finally figure out how to give myself natural-looking curls with the rollers I have.

Best case scenario

I know it's one of those logical fallacy bias things to think that all the trials you had in life were necessary in order to get to the good, happy part of life, but I'll indulge in it nonetheless. I could not have wrangled my way through life and eventually landed on my feet any better than this.

Return of the christmas spirit

It's that time of the year again! Merry chrisis!

Cheat code

I originally thought of having Blue simply float away, but then I thought of just how often levitating foxes have been featured in the comics, and had to come up with something else.

Deaf to the world

I don't know how I'll fare when I'm old. I know people on my mother's side have a tendency to lose their hearing with age - nobody really knows when my grandma lost her hearing, because she had never listened to anyone else talking anyway, and was already in the habit of interrupting someone mid-sentence to talk about whatever she just thought of, regardless of what anyone else was talking about.

Getting better

I'm back to regular posting! Spent a week just laying in bed, another one doing whatever I please (been weaving a basket, I'll show you when I'm done!) and building up a queue of comics so I can work on them on a more leisurely pace.

Sick leave

Turns out I'm probably sick after all. My energy didn't come back over the weekend so I'm back in bed until I feel like I want to get out of bed.

Not doing today

You ever have those days when you just don't want. You simply do not want to do that day. But there's things to do.

Getting up this morning felt like trying to peel an orange. Peeling myself out of bed unsure whether ripping me off the mattress is going to leave pieces of the mattress stuck on me, or pieces of me stuck on the mattress. I am currently back in bed taking an hour long break from today. I hope I'm not getting sick or anything.

The Suffering

Sometimes, when there's something that can't be helped in any way and must simply be suffered through, there's still always the option of being dramatic about it. My boyfriend isn't as much of a fan of theatrical melodramatic suffering, but I do my best to practice it in inevitable situations.

I wish I could have his headaches in his stead. I have no doubt that they suck, but when it comes to suffering, I have more fun with Being Tragic about it. For him, it just sucks.

The Halloween costume!

Now that I'm back home, here's the pictures of the costume I wore. Our theme this year was childhood shows, stories and fears, and I had decided to go as the black rabbit of Inlé from Watership Down. The costume, unfortunately, did not photograph well in dim light. Or bright light. Or any light, really. But I had known what I'd wear this year from the moment we decided on the theme last year!

Out next year's theme is still up in the air.

The Moth That Wasn't Doing Anything

We were wrong about the moth, it turns out! We had figured we'd let it be since it was just chilling on the ceiling and wasn't bothering anyone. Turns out that the moth was a flour moth, who had come from the flour bag we got from the lovely old mill we visited that one time. Also it wasn't merely chilling, it had gotten busy reproducing all over our dry pantry.

We've cleared them out now, though we're still keeping an eye out in case there's still a few survivors somewhere ar...

Whatever you want

We enjoy getting to do our own things sometimes, without having to worry about the other one being miserable or terribly bored. I need a break from the quiet life every once in a while, seeing my friends and being social 12 hours straight.

Meanwhile, my boyfriend enjoys a break from the quiet life, to have some even quieter life.

I did not actually try this (though I was tempted to) so this did not happen. I am however a firm believer in workers' rights to yell at customers who are up to nonsense and other shenanigans.

Sleeping sound(ly)

This is another one that absolutely happened. Our apartment is positioned in a way that sounds off the street are very clear and audible to up here, and for a minute there, groggy and half-awake, I could not tell that the very faint high-pitched sound I was hearing wasn't a distant scream coming from the street, but actually very close, very quiet, and located right behind me.

Car drama

Persimmon season

I love persimmons and they are one of the best parts of late autumn/early winter. I love it when they are in season, and for the time being, they are my favourite for the next few months. I'll have a different favourite fruit every season, and I love the one that we get at that particular time the most. I wouldn't want to have access to all of them year round, having them in their own months makes them special and makes me appreciate the passage of time.

Fragments of Heaven

I actually love waking up very early in the morning when I have nowhere to go. Waking up naturally, that is - I wouldn't set up a 5 am alarm for no reason just for the joy of it. But waking up randomly at 5 am because my sleep-meter is all charged up is a certain sign that it's going to be a great day.

Get real

Some jokes are only funny because of the stark contrast in the sheer time and effort it takes to execute it, and just how stupid the joke itself is. That's why the visual gag of "be realistic" never gets old. At least to me.

Orbs galore

For reasons beyond my own comprehension, I have lately been obsessed with rendering these spinning orbs. The only way for me to free myself of a fixation like that is to simply run it to the ground - let myself keep churning out whatever it is that my heart wants to obsess on, until it finally gets bored of that and lets me go, free to do other things again. Lately, it has been these orbs.

It was fun while it lasted but frankly I am relieved to be finally free.
