Adam Page vs Swerve Strickland Full Gear 2023 Texas Death Match

It's funny, I don't really mind the match being gory, but the moment that stands out the most from the match was always the blood drinking "spot." Which solidifies for me the general idea that you don't need to do all this to create those kinds of lasting moments. While I can find entertainment in it, I wonder if Hangman and Swerve find it worth it in the long run? Idk.

Nate Cruz

That was a wild match. I'd only seen a few bits and pieces of it when it happened so I didn't know everything that they did. It's pretty wild that the blood drinking spot is the one that got people the most up in arms because there are a few spots that I think are more brutal than that in the match. I've seen a lot of other deathmatches (including the Nick Gage vs Chris Jericho match they did on Dynamite which I'm surprised they were allowed to put on TV) so I kinda knew what to expect but it was most surprising to me that a major company would put something like this on. I read some of the spots they did in their match tonight that I feel are too far for me. There are a few other matches I've heard of that use similar spots (won't spoil because some people may have not watched All Out yet) and I've never been able to stomach those. Breaks the illusion too much for me.

Zakk219

I was there for this match. The background screens in the stage had been set to the Full Hear graphics all night until just before Hangman started drinking the blood (which most in the audience wouldn't have been able to see from their seats). Horrific, yet incredible. Additional fact: the black and red stripes down the left leg of Swerve's tights was a tribute to Bray Wyatt and the Fiend.

Darth Ramious

Cannot wait for the steel cage match tonight! There’s a reason it’s unsanctioned. The company (in Kayfabe) doesn’t want to be associated with what they’re gonna do to each other

Bobthekow

LETS FUCKING GO! I know alot of people don't like how hard they went in this but I think this match is so sweet and im glad AEW went as hard as they did you don't see this alot in a company as big as them

Matt

Man, this is the first match I just haven't been able to watch. Y'all enjoy, but this ain't it for me.

prototype27

I do like how absolutely everything they react to on this channel is completely optional to watch. There's various stuff on here that I have no desire or feel it's not really something I like. I just dont watch. It's that easy. To spend money for a patreon tier and use that money to watch content you don't like and feel that you need to express that opinion of dislike when you had literally every opportunity to just not watch is so wild to me haha

BazMan01

Swerve also admitted that he stalked Hangmans pregnant wife a few weeks ago. 😭🤣 It's one of those feuds where technically, both are heel, because Hangman has also been an asshole too recently.

.

Whole heartedly and completely agree that it’s just stupid and unnecessary. You can have great, violent matches without doing the stupid stuff these two did. Case in point: Drew vs Punk from Berlin.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

Yeah it’s way too far for me too. It’s just stupidity at that point.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

Cena/JBL Judgment Day 05 too

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

I’m all for hardcore matches and enjoy them, but drinking blood is just gross and using glass is completely unnecessary and stupid. It’s just asking for trouble.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

Man I swear you hate everything about wrestling lmao you comment shit like this on anything that's one a straight up singles match

Charlie

somebody send them an el desporado match 😭😭

🙇🏾‍♂️

And that match doesn't even have half the weapons they used in this match

Matthew Harvey

This one's for the sickos.

Robert Wallis

Actually you did on this one what I meant was for others. Apologies had a beer or 10

Diruroru

I was just thinking about that match while watching their reaction to this match. I’m like “If they think this is bad, Eddie vs. JBL at Judgement Day 04’ is gonna look like a f—kin massacre to them”

Snazzyway

Man it would of been great to pick about 4 or 5 things and really milked them. So many spots so rapidly I couldn't even remember them all letting nothing breath or build. The violence means nothing at that point ive gotten 10 years worth of desensitization to that violence in one match . There was good stuff in it but not my favorite I've seen from AEW

Nicholas Kramer

I let it record more when we have more to say but I feel like we got all our thoughts out during the match as well.

Dport

Hey dport, I kinda wish you didnt shut the recording off soo soon after the match, some thoughts just to let it settlte. a suggestion , especially after this

Diruroru

Oh the timing is perfect just hours before we see them killing each other at All Out I can’t wait 🔥😭

Abdullah

Dude Everything has a place in wrestling Why would I as a fan...give a damn about other people's feelings on the product Hell about the advertisers lol It's a childish endeavor

Paul Watson

Whats crazy is that after Swerve Strickland broke into Adam's house, the crowd decided to cheer Swerve and boo Hangman. Which is why Hangman's heel turn is justified. Also to answer tally's question about "How much blood is too much blood" i'm sure either the max or tally tier patrons is gonna suggest Eddie Guerrero vs JBL at Judgment Day 2004 sometime soon (Don't know when though) and you'll find the answer to your question there Also Also, a little fun fact, Swerve Strickland's gear is inspired by Bray Wyatt's Fiend Character who at that point passed away like 3 months before this match so it's a nice little tribute

Matthew Harvey

I abhor real life violence. I love it when pro wrestlers beat the shit out of each other. I am a man of many contrasts.

Wade Kruse

I like blood and gore in wrestling matches but in my opinion drinking the blood went to far but I guess if Adam page and swerve were ok with it then, I guess it’s ok

Jakob Micheal

I remember watching this PPV and match. There were moments of OMG! In shock as well as moments of OMG! Please just stay down, this is getting to be a bit much for me. But I feel the brutality did push the storyline narrative. Now that Page has burnt down Swerves house, I have no idea how they are gonna top it at All Out, but im both excited and honestly a bit concerned. Thanks for checking out the match. Thankfully we dont have stuff that intense too often.

First of all, well done for making it through the blood spot. I've seen countless death matchs and crazy spots and when I saw that happen it still shocked me. Death match wrestling is another style of wrestling which is rather popular in Japan. Hardcore weapon spots happen alot and there is emphasis on all the weaponry being real. That style did make its way over to America but for mainstream wrestling they implemented alot of tricks and some spots would give you the illusion of what was happening if that makes sense. AEW again likes to put on a show with all flavours of wrestling and because of its age rating its able to do more Deathmatch style matches. Also with this match in particular. Everything used was real. Swerve before he made it into mainstream wrestling was apart of a promotion called CZW where the whole promotion is basically this style match with less reasoning behind it and far more outrageous stuff. So he has a background in this sort of thing. Onto the match itself. Alot of people had seen various deathmatches before and usually it's seen as just hardcore spots for hardcore sake, but this match had such a big build up and feud going into it that when it all happened the story justified the violence. That's why it's alot of people's favourite Deathmatch. Luckily for you guys (assuming your still watching All Out tomorrow) they are going at it again in a steel cage match, which has been unsanctioned by AEW. (In kayfabe, AEW are not responsible for what happens in the match and the win doesn't go onto the win loss record). Thanks for watching this!

BazMan01

I was there and that was awesome to watch live. Two guys who hate each others guts beating the shit out of each other. It got loud and a whole lotta “You Sick Fuck” chants. That was hard f’n core!

Snazzyway

Such a silly thing to comment when this feud is the biggest draw for All Out tomorrow. That show is going to have a whole lot more than 300 people in attendance.

Dagur Hall

This match rules so much, Page drinking Swerve's blood and then spitting it out HHH style is such a great visual. Also just a generational bladejob from Swerve. I kinda hate the interference from Cage though and Nana dancing to hype up Swerve was kinda silly for this type of match imo. I'm kinda iffy on the heel/face dynamics in this match too, at some points it looked like Swerve wanted to be a babyface, like when he defiantly took Page's staples to his chest, but then he also had people help him win the match which is a heel move. Still awesome and one of the best matches of 2023. ****1/4

Dagur Hall

Honestly just ignore his comments he does this in almost every AEW related post

Drew Or Die

You are commenting this 2 weeks after Swerve main evented Wembley and signed one of the biggest contracts in wrestling, while AEW is also close to announcing their streaming deal with MAX. The wrestlers are being paid more than ever while working WAY less dates, heavily due to AEW’s existence as an alternative. You’re wrong on all bases here and it would do you a service to stop listening to so much Cornette.

RF

When I saw this, I had the evil Patrick (from Spongebob) smiling meme face when he was rubbing his hands. I was thinking in my head, they have no idea what they are getting into lol.

Christopher Barnes

This kind of thing is a perfect example of why that stupid deathmatch wrestling doesn’t have a place anywhere. 300 goofs in a rec center somewhere is the limit of where this stuff can go. It’s stupidity on stupidity. This does nothing but devalue the company. Parents aren’t gonna let their kids watch, families won’t attend shows, advertisers/potential money making opportunities dry up once they see a clip like the blood drinking thing, etc. If you think this kind of thing helps wrestling and brings it forward idk what to tell you. In every conceivable way this does nothing but bring a loss at the end of the day. To their careers and the company’s pocketbook. “But Meltzer gave it 5 stars and people on twitter loved it” That doesn’t mean anything

John Coffey

ooooooohhh let's go I'm so excited to see this and it should be a good warmup for All Out saturday when we finally get the rematch

Drew Or Die

Lets gooooo! Just in time!!!

Daniel Santos

LET'S FUCKING GO⁉️ This is gonna be a fun one, was hoping you guys would watch this before All Out and W dporticus and W tally

chicken n waffles

The most hardcore/ violent match I’ve ever watched. I’ve been watching wrestling for 14 years and I don’t actively look for hardcore matches but this was just insane

Wilson Simons

The greatest thing in professional wrestling People that hate one another and want to kill each other over it

Paul Watson

Perfect timing to watch this before they have an even crazier match at All Out!

RF

LETS GOOOOO! i’m going to all out tmr can’t wait to see them kill eachother again !! 😭
