AJ Styles vs John Cena (Summerslam 2016)

You actually did see their first match at MITB about a month prior (both a month for you and a month after their last match also, lol) with AJ deciding to sign the contract where the Club wouldn’t interfere…but then they did anyway. The result of this was shocking because it was assumed Cena would get his win back. I believe there’s one more really good one. Royal Rumble 2017, this time with stakes!

Big Ell

Your face when that ad showed at the end was a picture.

Abs Ali

The best guy in TNA against the top guy of WWE. This was AJ's keystone moment in the fed before winning the world title. Somehow he and Jinder turned out to be the only WWE champions during this time they actually pushed willingly.

When I upgrade tiers, I’m gonna suggest some of his heel work from 2003. I don’t think he seen the actual thuganomics gimmick yet. Especially when he was an actual heel.

The mid 2010's were A Time for the main WWE shows. "The hardest part of the ring!" became a meme around then exactly because the commentary team would not shut up about it. And would you believe that this match is better than some of the big matches around this time in terms of kicking out of finishers and false finishes? That was starting to recover around this time, but before this it wasn't uncommon for people to kick out of 3 or more finishers before a match would end.

Il est vraiment! Il est vraiment! Il est vraiment phénoménal La-la-la-la, la-la-la la-la, la-la-la-la-la

It also so happens that some of his best matches are losses. Although my Tally Tier suggestion for July was from his long 06-07 title reign.

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

For the same reason there won’t be many suggestions for Roman Reigns’ wins from his Big Dog era. When someone is heavily pushed (almost overpushed) for years like Cena was, his every loss felt like a huge moment. And those matches are more memorable because of that :)

I am amused by the fact that every John Cena suggestion so far seems to be one of his big losses. People really like to see Cena lose. I have to agree that the phenomenal forearm finish looked really perfect.

I feel like 2015-2016 was Cena's prime as a wrestler. He elevated US Championship to another level, he didn't bury his opponents as frequently as in previous years, and he really improved his moveset (you can clearly see that compared to 2011, he was trying to do a lot of new stuff) . I'd say these years were transition from super-cena to a veteran trying to put newer generation over. I actually started to respect John for his work back then.

I love this match. It's one of my favorite matches of all time.
