Jeff Hardy vs Cm Punk TLC match - Summerslam 2009

Comments

I went to a random show in 2009 and let me tell you, it wasn’t Cena who the most over, it was Jeff Hardy by a landslide. Every kid was dressed like him to some degree. It was unbelievable. Unfortunately his time on top didn’t last too long, but it certainly is memorable.

Big Ell

Yes! Jim Ross’ call is legendary!

I think Mick Foley, then as acting commissioner, was the one that made the TLC name for the match really stick. I remember the chant he got started: "Tables! Ladders! And Chairs! OH MY! Tables! Ladders! And Chairs!! OH MY!!!"

Willow Falls

Had to come back and watch the reaction to The Undertaker again. I completely forgot about the ending until you did the watch along. Side note: I had the Edge Summerslam cup that they were promoting that year. Don’t have it anymore.

Christopher Barnes

One of my favorite matches all time is undertaker vs Hardy on raw for the title in a ladder match.

Most of your questions have been answered in other comments so far but Josh this shows stage design is in 2K24 so you can find it in Community Creations. It was in 2K22 for the Rey Mysterio Showcase as he faced Dolph Ziggler for the IC Title in the opener.

Where one of the matches was a rehash on the Screwjob because it was in Montreal

Steamed Ham Champion Dillon Haggett

Dude that superplex on a ladder is insane! that had to hurt so damn bad.

Nicholas Kramer

The nostalgia was crazy watching this. I was in high school when this feud happened and haven't went back to watch these matches in years. I think I'm going to have to rewatch this whole feud now that you reminded me how good it was

Drew Or Die

Just so you know it eventually led to a Hell in a Cell Match between Undertaker and Punk where Undertaker won the World Heavyweight Championship from him.

Chad

Rewatched edge vs angle hair vs hair. 💯🔥

Phillyman!!

They also had a Submission match at Breaking Point that year and a match on Smackdown!

Christopher Barnes

so happy this won the poll!!

Dre Mercy

Undertaker Attacking CM Punk that lead up to the next PPV in 2009 Hell In A Cell. Wrestlemania 29 had nothing to do with that cause that was literally like 4 years in the future

I’m not spoiling something for you MJF does something during this match that afterwards had a lot of people speculating if it was real or not. It was confirmed later on that what he did was real and not something planned.

John Coffey

Bruh spoilers

Dport

Before you watch the Iron man match I’m just going to tell you the tequila spot is real. You’ll understand what I mean when MJF goes into the crowd. He does some classic classic heel stuff in this match.

John Coffey

Unfortunately, all this would lead to is a pretty underwhelming feud where Punk wasn’t quite “buried” but he wasn’t made to look as strong as Taker.

Ryan Redd

This is definitely prime Hardy. Also, the title they’re fighting over, also known as the Big Gold, is one of the most legendary and prestigious titles in wrestling history. It’s been used from the NWA days to WCW and then into WWE. It’s THE title people think of when they think of guys like Flair, Batista, Goldberg, etc.

RF

Most definitely. It’s amazing

Kam

The first Summer Slam that took place in a outdoor stadium was in 1992. You should totally react to that main event

WWE Jay Gaming

The demand is so much higher for tickets now, I get the switch.

Dport

Pretty wild time we’re living in now where damn near every PLE is at some kinda stadium

Kam

yep, they never did stadiums for any show besides wrestlemania until i want to say royal rumble 2019? (discluding saudi shows from 2018 onwards)

panda

Sadly agree 🤦‍♂️

Phillyman!!

This was actually Undertaker's first appearance since his WrestleMania 25 match against HBK earlier that year so it was indeed a cool surprise return. Unfortunately, it led to a pretty underwhelming 2-match feud between Punk and Taker for some reason

Oscar Islas

Believe it or not, they just started doing stadiums for Summerslam a few years ago. For about 7 years in a row it was held at Staples Center in LA, which I thought really fit the feel and theme of the PPV.

Kam

Awesome reaction realizing undertaker switched. 🔥🔥🔥And no the WM match was in 2013. So nothing to do with this moment.

Phillyman!!
