Things after the meeting with the Wards and Sophia were a blur. Ushered back into her room, Taylor laid huddled in her bed, tucked away in her little corner of the world as tears fell down her face. Why did life have to be so unfair?
She could understand that some people have it better, that they were smarter, faster or prettier than her, but why Sophia and her bullies had to get everything? Desperately trying to stem the flow streaming down her cheeks, she cried, cursing her stupid life.
Sophia, her bully, wasn't just the star athlete of her school, but apparently she was also a hero. "It's not fair," She choked out as a strangled laugh bubbled up her lips. Was her life nothing more than a joke? That her suffering would be in the hands of the very people she idolized?
Wiping at her tears, she curled into herself. Were Madison and Emma heroes as well? It all just made perfect sense on why they seemingly get away with all those horrible things and why her life was ruined. Was everything that happened to her life because of heroes?
Sniffling, she shut her eyes as she covered her ears, trying to drown out those thoughts. She just couldn't take it anymore and what's worse was that the one person that she trusted after everything that had happened, the one person she held on to when things got rough betrayed her. "Why didn't you tell me?"
Mew knew, he knew all this time, yet he kept it to himself, hiding it and doing nothing. He could have told her anytime, but he didn't, letting her suffer unknowingly. Why did her partner have to turn on her? Why did he betray her?
With the flood gates opened, she cried till it hurt. She cried till nothing was left but the empty void inside her chest. She cried till she couldn't any longer. Maybe that's what she deserved for daring to hope that things would get better.
As she laid there, staring at the bare walls, she heard a soft voice whisper behind her. "Taylor…"
She knew who it was, who that familiar squeaky tone belonged to, but she chose not to acknowledge them as she turned away. He was nothing to her but another one of her tormentors. After all, if he knew, why didn't she tell him?
He must think of her as some stupid little girl that he could toy with, that all those sweet words were nothing. He must have laughed at her back knowing that her Tormentor was a heroine, a fully fledged one. He succeeded alright, and now she felt bitterness bubble up her chest.
He was a traitor, but why did knowing that only made it hurt even more?
Feeling him approach, she heard him whisper, "Sophia's been taken care off." Still, he kept this from her. "I've told them everything," He told her, but why didn't he tell her everything? Plopping down behind her head, he added, "They've cleared both of us so you don't have to stay in this room. So please… please don't hole yourself up here."
Slowly, she turned to him, her eyes red and puffy as he glared at his stupid pink face and the worry in his eyes. He betrayed her, so why was he still here? Hadn't he done enough? "You knew Sophia was with the wards…" She whispered, making him flinch.
Unable to hold her stare, he answered, "Yes."
"And you didn't tell me?" She asked accusingly as anger bubbled up to her chest. How dare he, how dare he show his face after what he did. How dare she make her feel so angry and hurt after lying to her.
"Why?" She choked out. Why was he doing this? Why did he want her to suffer?
"Because I was afraid of how you'd react," He answered as he floated away, "I was afraid of what you would do." As anger stewed inside her chest, he continued, "So I hid it from you. I kept it so that you wouldn't do something you'd regret."
Looking at her, he told her, "You deserve more than this life and the burden on you. You deserve your dream to be a hero." Glancing away, he whispered, "And I would do everything to make it happen, even if doing nothing was the best thing I could do."
Staring at him, she felt laughter spill out of her lips, making the Pokemon look at her, bewildered. "You would do everything?" She choked out as her smile turned to a scowl, "But you didn't tell me…" He claims that he was doing this for her, but why did he hurt her?
"Taylor-!" Mew tried to excuse himself, but she wasn't not having any of it.
"You didn't trust me!" She snapped as she forced herself up. Limbs shaky, she tried to get up, but they would give out under her. Even her body was betraying her now. As Mew floated over to help her, she swiped at him, forcing him back.
"We were supposed to do this together," She sniffed as she sat up, her hands reaching up to wipe at the corner of her eyes, "You were my partner… but you didn't trust me."
While she hated every fiber of his being, even now she wanted him to be her partner. She wanted him to be her pokemon, but she wasn't sure he wanted to be with her. "You kept things from me…" She cried as she looked up to him, her eyes teary, "But if you really meant what you said, that you wanted more for me, please tell me. Please… just tell me everything even if it hurts."
As he looked at him, her eyes searching for answers, she only saw conflict in his eyes. "It's not that simple!" He hissed, his hackles raised taking her aback, "I… can't tell you. I can't tell you even if I wanted to!" Tugging at his hair as the very rig seemed to shake, he shouted, "I've done everything for you, so why can't you see it!"
Eyes wide in fear, she huddled away as she saw a glimpse of the Pokemon's anger and the power he held. She was reminded that he wasn't just an ordinary pokemon. That anger, however, quickly melted away as the shaking stopped and horror overcame his features.
Backing away slowly, he whispered, "I'm sorry… I-I didn't!" Eyes clenched, he bolted away, disappearing in a flash and leaving her to despair.
"You've finally done it Taylor," She laughed as she hugged herself, "You've finally driven away everyone that wanted to help you." She didn't deserve any happiness. Maybe she shouldn't even have exist-!
"Taylor," Mew suddenly reappeared, her prototype Pokeball in hand, "Catch!"
"Wha-!" Out of instinct, Taylor reached for the ball, catching it firmly in his hands before Mew suddenly surged forward. Before she could even open her mouth, he slammed into the ball and disappeared in a flash of red light.
"Mew, no!" Taylor shouted as she desperately tried to unlatch the mechanism, but Pokeballs were meant to capture. It held shut, shaking until it clicked. "Don't worry, I'll get you out of there!" She shouted, wracking her mind as she tried remembering how to do this.
Arm extended, she pointed and released, only for the red light to dart back in. "Oh god, it's just as horrible as last time!" She heard Mew's muffled whisper as the ball shook, now unresponsive even as she desperately tried to release Mew.
"Then why did you go back in!?" She snapped as she hastily grabbed her tools, "Are you insane!?"
"Maybe I-I am!" Mew answered, their tone chattering as he remained resolutely, "B-But it's the only way I know that I could show you I'm serious about being your p-partner!" As she stared wide-eyed at the pokeball, he continued, "A-all this time I called you my partner, but I failed you so many times on that end."
"I lied to you, I kept things from you, and I couldn't even get in a pokeball for you…" He admitted, his voice dripping with shame, "So let me fix at least one thing before you decide what to do next!"
"You can release me, you can trade me away," He told her as her hands shook, unable to keep her hold steady as her eyes grew foggy once more, "H-Heck, you can keep me on a PC and forget about me, but I'm not going to make choices for you ever again."
"I tried to protect you the way I know," He whispered as Taylor's desperation grew, "But all I did was just protect myself." Finally, the screws would go undone, finally releasing Mew down on the bed. Still, despite their shaking limbs, they walked over to the shell and sat inside.
"I shouldn't have done that," He added as he lifted the other half and placed it over his head, "I shouldn't have been out only for myself, but I did." With a self deprecating grin, he tilted her head as he asked, "What a shitty partner I am huh?"
Unable to hold herself any longer, she reached out, grabbing the pokemon into a tight embrace. "You stupid pokemon," She cried, holding tightly against her cheeks, "Don't ever do something like that ever again, got it?" No one should ever do something stupid for her.
"Then call me stupid because I'll do it again," He replied, earning a soft glare from her. Reaching up, he wiped away at her eyes with his soft paws as he told, "Taylor, you deserve the world and as your partner, I'll do everything in my power to give it to you." Cheeks reddened with shame, he added, "That is… if you still want to be my partner?"
"I'm angry with you, you know that?" She replied as she held him tighter, not wanting to let go.
"And I deserve that," He answered, his voice straining as she felt something give.
"At least you know you're wrong so that's a start," She chuckled softly as she let go, letting him fall on the bed while her cheeks burning with embarrassment. Opening her mouth, he raised his hands as he forced himself up.
"I'm ok," He choked as he glowed with an inner light, before he let out a sigh of relief. Turning, he offered her the remains of her pokeball as he asked, "We're partners now, forever and ever, right?"
"Yes," She replied, a smile settling on her lips before it faltered, "But I… I don't want secrets." If Mew had just told her, maybe she'd be angry, but at least she knew. Secrets nearly destroyed what they had. She didn't want any more of it. "I you want to be my partner, I need you to trust me"
Taking a deep breath, Mew closed his eyes, before her let out a weary sigh. "I will," He answered as he looked up at her, "But I know a few things that would get us in trouble." Eyes serious, he added, "A lot of trouble"
"Mew," She breathed out, confusion lacing her tone.
"Trust me, the secret I'm holding can fuck so bad that it's not even funny," He muttered as he floated up and started to fly around agitatedly, "We'll make so many enemies because of the dirt I have on everyone.
"How bad is it?" She asked, dread filling her form.
"It involves the endbringers, the PRT and everything," Mew replied as he turned around and settled on her chest. "I'll tell them to you eventually," He promised, "But not yet." Eyes on her, he begged her, "So please, please trust me. "
A part of her wanted to say no, that she wanted to know, but she faltered. "Ok…" She breathed out, hating how she was kept at dark, but something told her she needed to listen; That she wasn't ready, not yet. Still, that doesn't mean she wasn't going to ask. "What can you tell me then?"
"Ok, where do I start…" Mew hummed, brow furrowed as Taylor shifted, getting more comfortable as she cradled her partner.
"At the beginning?" Taylor sassed back.
"Very funny," Mew rolled his eyes as he closed his eyes and the world shifted around them and darkness descended. For a moment, she looked around startled until stars came about and a golden form came out of the void. It felt so real, yet she knew that it wasn't him
"Memories?" She whispered.
"Right on that one," He laughed, "Make it easier to just show you everything, on the time I died and how a Golden Llama gave me a second chance to mentor a tragic heroine…"
