The Uchiha Incident: Prologue

Taking the Chance

Another day, another sleepless night. With her back against the corner of her room, he sat there on the cold hard ground as she threw a small rubber ball against the wall. The rhythmic thump of the toy as it bounced around, ricocheting against her lumpy bed and the various scrolls scattered around proved almost therapeutic for her mind. It wasn't like she'd hit something of value inside her painfully bare room.

She should probably stop but it wasn't like there was anyone else in the house. her "uncle" and only caretaker was out on a mission while his wife had their own kids to tend to. She does take care of her in her uncle's absence but it'll be until tomorrow before she comes back to check on her. For now, she only had herself and her own thoughts to keep her company.

Reaching out, she caught the ball as it bounced back to her before she threw it back once more. Again and again he threw it, hitting the same spot over and over again; the red and white fan that stood for this girl's… or rather her own clan. It had been ages since she became aware once again, of a life he once had.

She remembered it all, all the memories, celebrations and heartbreaks. It was as if her current reality was the dream while her life before was her waking hours. However, he knew all too well that was not the case; not after the fifth year in their new life. She simply had to deal with her new reality and so she did, throwing the ball once more to take her mind off her worries.

Sometimes she shook it up, letting it hit the post of her bed or the floor but her target remained the same. Yet no matter what she did, no matter what angle or fancy trick she performed, the outcome remained the same. The ball will still bounce off the wall but never through it.

It sounds rather silly expecting such a toy to phase through the wall with her shorter arms and younger self. Even these accursed eyes that helped her see the world in such detail couldn't help her there, at least not yet. As of right now however, it shouldn't be possible. Compared to expecting the results of her current situation to change, having the ball phase through the wall felt far more likely.

Catching the ball once more, he stood up before throwing it as hard as he could. It zipped around, hitting every which way, throwing things around as it kept bouncing around. Despite the randomness, her eyes saw all.

He saw the path it took, the angle it shot off to and the familiar path it took. He hadn't seen all the path but he watched it bounce so many times that he might as well have. Standing, he walked through unscathed, testing the powers of these eyes as he climbed up a chair and looked herself in the mirror.

Red eyes stared back at the younger, unfamiliar face she now wore. Watching the two tomoe swirl around her pupil, she couldn't help but let out a wry smile. Oh how to be so lucky yet unlucky at the same time. Holding her hand to the side of her head, he caught the ball just as it was about to strike her.

Her name was Taku Uchiha, only born daughter to two chuunin's that died in service. Basically, he was a nobody, a mere statistic to the venerable Uchiha Clan; Another future body to add to the pile. Clenching her fist, she squeezed down on the ball before letting go as she took calming breaths.

Placing the ball down on the desk before her, she reached up and touched her face. No matter how many times she woke up, no matter how long she stared at her face, she couldn't help but find it wrong. It felt too soft, too smooth, the features much gentler and her hair longer. Her face, her body, everything felt wrong yet at the same time… it felt right.

Maybe time would dull this feeling but time was something she was short of, oh so painfully so. Grabbing the ball once more, she then jumped off her chair before she paced around. Bouncing the ball around, she wracked her mind as she tried to figure out a way out of her situation.

Some would call it fortunate to be reborn to the Uchiha clan and to possess their eyes yet not even these eyes could change the course the clan was heading into. A massacre, cut down till there were only three members left; a traumatized kid, a fool, and a monster who helped push the clan down a dark part.

For all the Uchiha's fault, they still don't deserve what was going to happen to them yet the world seemed all too eager to get rid of them. Forces both in and out of the village, working in concert to bring the once powerful clan to its knees.

Staring at the clan symbol, she started picking up the pace, throwing the ball harder with each bounce. Sweat started dripping down her forehead as her eyes started to strain under the load of, her small body still too fragile to handle it for too long. She held on however, refusing to give up on the impossible task.

She could warn them… but what would the word of a 5 year old girl be to the head of the clan. Who would believe an orphaned girl who was as far removed from the main branch as one can get? No one would believe her.

Even letting them know that something was going to happen was a pitfall all on its own. How should she know that something terrible was coming? They'll know something was wrong with her the moment she opened her mind, that she wasn't the girl that they thought they'd known.
Grabbing the ball as it flew by, she twisted around and brought her body fully into the throw. Still all it did was chip away at the painted symbol on the wall. What if she used direct force? Could she grow strong enough in what little time she had? Looking outside, out over the walls of the compound and towards the center of the village, she could still see some of the streamers and lanterns lit for the fanfare of welcoming the Kumo delegation.

She had almost no time at all. The clock was already ticking and there was nothing she could take. Her element was Water ruling out much of the clan's Jutsu. She is middling at best when it comes to physicality and her one advantage, her adult mind could only take her far. Knowledge was powerful but what use would it be if she couldn't convert into fire power as her body was simply too young. Even the fabled Fuinjutsu was simply out of reach for a kid.

Looking outside the clan was hard. She didn't know anyone else aside from her own clan much less a mentor willing to take her. She was still too painfully shy, too nervous and jittery. Even if she could land into an apprenticeship, she'd still come back to the compound one way or another. She was an Uchiha after all and it was expected she stayed inside for her own protection.

Blocking the ball as it shot at her, she found herself laughing. Not only was she facing the threat of Obito but also Danzo. The man's naked desire for power was as disgusting as it was terrifying. Just thinking about how her eyes could be plucked and placed upon that twisted mass they called their arm sent shivers of revulsion up their spine. She hasn't even talked about Orochimaru yet and she was up to her neck in possible danger.

"Small, weak, pathetic!" She gritted out as she threw harder even as her body strained. Panting, her eyes struggled to remain open much less track the ball as it bounced around. "God fucking damn it all!" She let out a wince as it finally struck her, leaving a bruise on her shoulder.

No longer having the energy to keep going, she tucked down close to the floor as the ball whizzed about. Without the power of her eyes, it was far too fast and overwhelming for her to handle. Bouncing in front of her, it slowly petered out before rolling to a stop before her. "Damn it all, this is so unfair," She whispered as tears fell down her eyes, "I don't want to die…"

Picking up the ball, she hiccuped as she clutched it close. She just wanted to live, she just wanted to be free from the fear that now ruled her life. She… wanted to get away from this accursed place, to be as far away as possible when things finally boiled over.

It was the coward's way out but she wasn't a hero, she wasn't some prodigy nor a kid that had a destiny to fulfill, she was just a random nobody. As cynical it was, she didn't matter in the grand scheme of things. She could leave and no one would be none the wiser, the world spinning on while a cute little squid faded into obscurity.

Perhaps it was just her own anxiety talking but she… she didn't want to be her anymore. Just like the ball however, she had no way forward. The date of the Uchiha Massacre standing before her like some unbreachable wall. Nothing she can do inside the village could push through this insurmountable challenge.

"It's not fair," She whispered as anger bubbled up her chest, "It's not fair!" She hissed out as forced herself up and threw the ball once more. Her legs however couldn't hold her up causing her to slip and miss. She cringed as the ball shattered the mirror before it flew out into the open window.

For a moment, she stood there in silence. The ball just flew outside… outside towards the village. There she'd see the lanterns still hanging and the banners flying, "I don't have to beat the odds when I can simply not be here," with an almost feverish energy coursing through her veins, she scrambled up to her cabinet and pulled out her bag. Stuffing her clothes, she took as much as she could with her. What little she had, her clothes and her meager savings.

The thought of running away had crossed her mind but it never fell through. After all, where would she go? How could she scale the great walls or get past all the Uchiha Police Nin that would come looking for her? That was until the Cloud Delegation came to town.

She paused briefly as she stared at her bag, what little she had in this world already packed up. Did she really want that life? Going over to Kumo would mean she had to continue her line there. There were no ifs or buts, it was what she would be forced to do if push comes to shove. But what future would she have here? Death was a certainty here. Outside? There in the mountains? She would live… and where there is life, there is still something to be done.

She feared for her future, she feared the uncertainty but she couldn't stay here much longer. She feared that that incident was already beginning, her chance to escape slipping away dwindling by the second. If she wanted to do this, she needed to decide now.

Did she want to face what was inside the walls of Konoha… or take her chances outside? Looking back to her cold empty room, she found her answer. Slinging her bag over her shoulder, she leapt from the window and never turned back. That night was the last night anyone would ever hear of Taku Uchiha.

-x-x-x-

It was late at night. The moon was shining while soft wispy clouds cast shadows flew overhead, casting shadows upon the village of Konoha. Feeling his heart hammering against his chest, he crept forward, straining his ears as he waited for the Hyuuga guard to pass by the wall.

To be seen was certain death. Even obscured in the bushes and tall trees, nothing could hide from the Hyuuga eyes. Only by memorizing where they focused their look and where they roamed could he ever have the chance to even sneak inside the compound. Even Hyuuga's could get tired using their fabled Byakugan.

Just one little Genjutsu, one little suggestion to bring in the Hyuuga heiress in range and he could slip away. After what felt like an eternity, the guards finally moved. Leaping down from his hiding spot, he moved, ready to scale the walls and slip inside only to stop as he heard the softest of whispers call out, "Hey…"

Pulling out his kunai, he whirled around and was about to slit the throat of the owner of that voice until he saw those red eyes staring back at him. He felt his heart beat wildly as a small, mousy looking child gazed up at him not only of weariness and fear… but that of hope.

"I'm not really a Hyuuga but do you guys need an Uchiha or something?" She asked as she clutched her octopus shaped bag close to her chest. Perhaps… he didn't need to grab the far more dangerous target after all…

A/N:

So the idea took a life on it's own when the name Takuya got suggested and I said they could be nicknamed Takoyaki. One Ina gif later and here we are, an Uchiha girl that looks like Ina. It wouldn't end right here.

As much as the idea of someone with a bloodline getting used as breeding stock would be the cold hearted and logic end, an Uchiha would still be useful as a full nin especially one that willingly joined them. They wouldn't have to start from scratch when training the next generation when they have someone fully trained raising them after all. Also, a carrot is a far better tool in retaining an asset. Having a loyal Uchiha on their side would be a massive win as well. It shows that they can be a refuge for those wanting to leave... without being turned to mindless breeding stock.

Anyways, next up is the Frog and after that is Double or Nothing. Lots of things to crunch. Hopefully I can finish it before the end of the next polls.

I plan to. Kinda want to explore Kumogakure and make it feel more alive. After all, it's the place that gave us Killer B.

Will we find fluff and wholesomeness here? If so I’m all for it.
