"Like a condom stuffed with walnuts" is exactly how Reacher is discribed in Trip Wire, the third novel. Well played, Drinker.

2024-02-01 16:53:53 +0000 UTCDrinker, I appreciated your take on Reacher Season 2. We can only hope they learn from it and go back to more from Season 1. Of course it was great seeing the detective character from season 1. I wish more shows did this. If you have a character fans really enjoy. Than a cameo is never a bad thing if it works for the story. I do think they made a mistake with the head villain's character. Patrick is a good actor but I'm not sure if it was more the writers fault or his on the portrayal. Maybe you can do a Drinker fixes on this show. I mean if you had Drinker fixes from Heavy, Medium, light I think this one would only be a light version since you could probably come in and fix the issues without breaking a sweat. One other item, I picked up Dark Harvest the Audio book from Audible. It so far is a fantastic book. Can't wait to get back to it. Best wishes as always.

2024-02-01 16:44:40 +0000 UTCWe've all seen better, but not lately. This was like not-quite-cold beer in Death Valley - suboptimal, but still damned welcome.

2024-02-01 15:53:10 +0000 UTCGreat review. I had very similar thoughts about it, it was good but not nearly as good as Season 1 and it did have some issues where the writers underused characters or had specific convenient things happen just when they were needed. Your point about shows like the Wire or 24 is well stated; because that would be my summary for this season: it had me on the edge of my seat waiting for stuff to happen; but ultimately it never did, or it wasn't nearly as satisfying as it looked like it was headed.

2024-02-01 15:40:29 +0000 UTCIt was good but not as good as the first. The helicopter scene was a bit cringe and OTT.

2024-02-01 15:39:31 +0000 UTCExactly what I thought. I enjoyed it but it could have been better. Still, it’s nice to get a show that’s not trying to push a message. Sometimes good and fun entertainment is just what we need!

2024-02-01 15:28:28 +0000 UTCYou nailed the criticisms. Langston was a dirty cop. He uses low level thugs and in way over his head. But also does some supervillian stuff that he doesn't seem capable of. The fight choreography with group fights looks like something the arrow verse. I think the biggest problem I have is that reacher is portrayed as this deep analytical thinker with the abilities of an oracle. Yet he constantly makes stupid decisions that contradict that and then the writers use contrived solutions that heavily relied on luck for him to escape. The best example of this was during the flashback sequence to the army days. When the units commander told him to bury the investigation because the post commander wants a promotion and doesn't want to look bad. This was so badly written, that I can't fathom it. Reacher does the raid anyway and they're all discharged. This wouldn't happen. Well at least the CO wouldn't be so brazen about it. He wouldn't admit to burying an investigation for political gain, and then threatening and acting on retribution for the unit. There are multiple paths for corruption of this level starting with the inspection General and leading to congressional investigations. Finally the whole premise sucks, because the post commander could easily take credit for stopping the drug trade. Also, who the hell plans a raid with 5 people? They don't cordon off the area with an inner and outer ring, they don't have a reserve team as qrf, and they walk in a single mag in their weapons. A full combat load is 210 rounds. Why was reacher, a major, on the ground? He should been back at a command center coordinating resources. Instead he's there like John wick beating the shit out of people.

2024-02-01 15:13:02 +0000 UTCSo glad you enjoyed Season 2 by the end, I know you weren’t a fan at the start when you read my Superchat, but it definitely grows on you…just like Dixon’s Tiddy Meat 🤤

2024-02-01 15:08:52 +0000 UTCSo i did a weekly rewatch with 2 friends. One has read EVERY Reacher book and he even said this season matches the book very well. It was less about Reacher being alone and now as part of a team. I admit it was a little clunkier than season 1 with the writing and more action packed I said on a friends channel if i felt season 1 was 10/10 i would say season 2 is an 8/10. Still good, but i did see flaws with the military issues and my buddy who watched it with me is an ex MP himself so he loved what they got right, but also pointed out what they got wrong. But the bottom line is it literally was Amazon's most watched show of 2023, currently Alan is filming season 3 and 4 so the big man is here to stay. So season 2 was good but not AS good as season 1, but we'll take this over anything Disney put out in 2023 lol. What i love about Drinker is his honesty about criticizing the show while also praising it. I can't wait until my friend sees your review tomorrow. Cheers my friend
