The Existential Horror of Aggretsuko

A new Video just went live on the channel!!!

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtGoikgbxP4F3rgI9PldI9g

This time we’re talking about Aggretsuko.

I feel like I’ve been doing a lot of very long videos lately, and so I wanted to take this opportunity and try and tackle a smaller show with a smaller video, as I don't think a 20+ minute epic would have really been in keeping with the tone of Aggretsuko, and it was really a lot of fun to make, working on a smaller video means I get time to finesse every little piece.

I think sometimes I get very in my head about trying to cover “everything” I like about a show and as result it really messes up the pacing of certain videos and they require really major edits in the final hours, which can be a real nightmare.

There is totally stuff I would have liked to talk about (the weird generational divide between Retsuko and Ton that makes them misunderstand each other, How cool a character Hyda is and how real his reaction to Aggretsuko dating Resasuke was, Pretty much everything Resasuke, I love that idiot), but I think at a certain point that would have started getting away from why I think the show is so special.

I hired a photographer friend of mine to help shoot the intro, and I was really happy with how it came out, so again, thank you for your generous wolf dollars and for letting me invest more in the video It’s always important to me that the videos keep growing and changing, and its only with the support I get from my patrons that I can invest in new stuff like this, so, seriously, thank you, you guys are the best <3

On a completely different note, what are the chances you would make a video of some kind on Violet Evergarden? Whenever I watch a video of yours, I get a real sense of empathy from you—an awareness of emotional depth that out-strips most who bother to analyse anything on YouTube. You've looked at a Kyoto Animation work in Myriad Colors Phantom World before but that was such a black sheep for the company in terms of over-all nuance that it's almost like you walked in to their room at the absolute worst possible time. Violet Evergarden is more consistent with their indelible pedigree and, I think, an amazing analysis waiting to happen. It's also the first thing in a literal decade to reduce me to a puddle of despondent, fangirly tears so there's also that. ;~; J-just being transparent in my bias, is all! Your content is amazing! Keep it up! <3

This video gives me real fear, to be honest. I'm about to be out of university. I don't think I need to say any more.

Hey, I just started donating to you after I saw this video ! I loved it like all the others, it feels like you have a particular sensibility for art that carries through in your scripts (if that makes sense). I also didn't even know there were Aggretsuko animated shorts that existed before the Netflix show, so thanks for the info !

This is brilliant. I'm routing my readers to this video in 26th June column about countering workplace hopelessness.
