I'm about to tell the email list....
Added 2025-02-11 20:56:27 +0000 UTC
Please forgive me if this is an annoying post. I wanted to let you know that I'm about to tell the email list about the Smarter Scrubber... and I wanted to tell you (the Patrons) first in case you were hoping to get one. The email list is approximately 100,000 people, so I'm thinking we may run out of inventory once I blast it out. I was going to give you a heads up a couple of days in advance in case you were thinking about it. The attached video is an edit I made to the original video I posted here on Patreon.
Thanks for supporting here on Patreon! I hope you're as excited about the upcoming nuclear series as I am! There were a lot of interesting people who reached out after the first episode!
Thanks,
Destin

destin i've been using this grill brush for a couple months now on bbq and a flat top griddle. works great! i have one piece of feedback which unfortunately will be a deal breaker for me to re-purchase or not. the rounded design prevents me from getting into the corners of the grill or griddle. i need something that i can get into the corners as well. for 98% of the surface this is great but it always leaves behind the corners

It’s sharp enough to notice. But probably safe enough to handle.

Sorry for the unrelated comment here… thought it might be the quickest way to send a message over. And looking closer at the product page, I believe some of them DO have wireless chips :( Maybe not the perfect fit, but could be a market worth digging into - good luck!

Saw a request on X for a camera without wireless sensors - we use these Sony ILX units for NDAA-compliant drone stuff - might be a decent pathway to go down instead of some of the old DSLRs being suggested.

Got an idea… I use chain mail rag for my cast iron pans and I didn’t realize how tight this chain mail was until I got this brush. It’s perfect to unscrew from the grill handle and use in my cast irons as well. Would you be down for making a modified version or a screw on palm handle if you unscrewed the long handle. If not I already have an idea to make a quick metal handle to go in place of the long handle if I want to swap for inside use.
Can I buy a second head without the handle? If not i may just have to buy a second one.

Hey Destin! This is so awesome! I'm wondering, would this would be something okay for porcelain coated grill grates? I have a Traeger Smoker and that's what it uses but recommends nylon or wood brushes. As a side note, it would be nice to have an FAQ page for this type of info (ie what type of material is and isn't okay, can it go in the dishwasher, what materials are used, etc).
If it can be used with a porcelain grill grates, I have a friend who I'm for sure buying one of these for (can't get him to stop using those dang wire brushes). Thank you for making this!

Just got mine, thanks for the heads up. One idea for Mach 2: put a brushed finish on the handle so the folded edges clean up and are less sharp.

Wow I had somehow missed all these posts. This is so cool. I've been working in manufacturing for 12 years now (piston plant, bearing plant with progressive die presses, now in medical device where we do a lot of injection molding) so it's super cool to see you learning these processes and making a product! Awesome work!

Between the part where you grip it and the head, the portion that is U shaped. Those edges are a little sharp and If you grab there and your hand slips it could cut you. I could message a pic if that helps.

1. Yeah, the thought is to hang it.
2. Where exactly on the handle?
3. Did you tilt it up on the side? John wrote a blog post here: https://www.jjgeorgestore.com/grillmaster-tips-1/how-to-clean-your-grill-with-the-smarter-scrubber-3-helpful-tricks-to-have-your-grill-squeaky-clean-/

I got mine, thanks! Some feedback: 1) too long to fit in the drawer of my BBQ island. 2) parts of the handle are a little sharp. 3) my grill has round rod grated, it cleans the top very well but cannot get down in between to well. I can send more info if it helps. Keep up the good work!

It’s a food grade silicone. I can get you the exact specs. The hard plastic head is poly propylene, so it has a pretty high melting point, but it will not be as high as your grill.

So to make sure I understand, you're saying the wire itself which is welded into rings would have a square profile? It would still be a ring, but with a square cross section?
Smarter Every Day
2025-02-11 21:08:52 +0000 UTC
I've got mine and I use it primarily for cleaning cast iron, which is where it shines. I will say if bits of food get stuck under the rings it's a bit of a pain to clean with how tight the rings are to the body, but other than that it works great as a case iron scrubber. It's probably my number 2 favorite none bristle grill brush still behind the scrub daddy brush simply because no brush is the best at everything. Pairing the two up makes grill clean up a snap. Smarter brush hits the big stuff, scrub daddy gets between the grill grates.

Thank you, Destin. It makes me very happy to see you helping to bring back true American manufacturing. The scrubbers I've got are top notch. I will be gifting one to my Father who is a fabricator for his birthday. I'm sure he will be as impressed as I am. I've only had a chance to use it on some pans inside but so far it works great. Destin - I bought the scrubber. But, when is the best time to scrub the grill? Is it just after finishing a cook and the grill is still hot? Is it between cooks when the grill is cold? Is it when you are about to put meat on for the next cook and the grill is hot again? I'm thinking there is some science here - feels like a future episode!

Thanks for the heads up. I've had mine for a while now. I might suggest a slight change if possible to use chain mail rings with square profile to give a sharper scraping angle. I'm pleased with mine. Too often now, especially as people move to shopping on large platforms like Amazon, it seems there is a "race to the bottom" on quality and price in order to make the sale. Finding quality made products, or even being able to determine in advance if something is of good quality, is becoming harder. Thank you.
