How Carburetors are Made

Thank you very much for supporting me on Patreon. Knowing you've got my back lets me free myself from trying to please the algorithm, and lets me make the content I want to make!  This video is exactly the type of stuff I enjoy making.

I'm grateful for your support,

How Carburetors are Made

Comments

Subs and stuff are fascinating but your carburetor adventures are wonderful. Before switching to an EV I knew my engine had a carburetor and roughly what it did - but clearly not. Your series has given me an appreciation of how complicated the mechanism and/or design process has to be to achieve something relatively simple. But then that is typical of engineering.

Captions are *FINALLY* up as of yesterday. I do hate waiting for creators to add captions....

Just watched the the Holley carboreter video. I'm amazed by the precision that can be designed into them, functioning without any computer control. So, recalling the baseball bat video you did with Stuff Made Here and the problem of precision, I thought about the electromechanical fire control computers from WWII - aiming the big guns on a battleship or the torpedoes shot from submarines. Many years ago I snuck into one of the 16" gun turrets on the USS Massachusetts and played with a broken and vandalized fire control computer. Lots of cranks and dials. Fascinating and complex. Looking back now it was like an Antikythera but with servos and synchros. I've also visited several Gato class submarines and noticed that the TDC's looked pretty similar. So, never mind the WWII stuff, do you think a video on mechanical and electromechanical computers might be interesting?

MikeW

Hi - will this be captioned? Thank you.

Destin... Thank you for all of the energy, effort, wonder, and enthusiasm you put into every single one of your videos. The content you create is entertaining AND extremely educational, which is not a simple feat. You are one of the best science communicators in the world today, and I am proud to support you here on Patreon!

Love this! It matches both my engineering curiosity and love of classic and performance cars.

Wonderful, Destin - Thank You!

More manufacturing videos please!

this made me happy... as a former mechanic, i love watching that kind of video.. awesome work!

TEQ Snukka

I haven't had a car with a carburetor in at least 45 years, but this is just fascinating. Thank you!

Mark Sundstrom

I'm amazed at the volume of carburators. This is all for aftermarket of classic cars. It amazes me that there is that much demand.

Using "turn off the century" universally as 1900 is a quick way to show your age. I thought that was funny because I knew exactly what he was talking about while my children wanted to correct him.

I'm not noticing that. Maybe it's your internet browser or device or app? I've had issues like that in the past, but I don't remember if rebooting everything is what helped.

Hey Destin--I love the deep dive that goes above and beyond "How It's Made". I would love to see more things like this! I am also very much a manufacturing nerd (I'm an engineer who worked in a few different areas related to manufacturing). I think you have the capability to get into a lot of doors and ask a lot of interesting questions--I'd be interested in helping out here if you're interested in doing more of this or spinning off yet another thing.

Destin, your passion for understanding and sharing is contageous. Thank you

I was watching it on the tv and my dad walked in at the end, so I restarted it and we watched it again haha

Zach Wiggin

"I chase squirrels" I know that exact feeling LOL

Clifton Ballad

That was awesome. Looking forward to the next one.

Kevin Thomas

I love that you're involving your dad.. He's like a proxy for all of us, learning along with you! Great video.. Learned a lot, and I also love tours of just about any factory - That was a cool one!!

Steve Jones

Great video, but is it super stuttery for anyone else? Destin, What framerate did you upload with? I've got no problem watching other 4k60fps video. It's just this one. I've seen this effect on some junky AI's that boost framerates

Should take a tour of the Starrett factory at some point. “Without precision and the tools to measure it, we would not be where we are today.”

Destins dad is my favorite part of any video.

Kevin Bost

So which of you was more giddy during that tour, you or your Dad? :)

Loved this video. As a car guy it's genuinely insightful and thrilling to the end. Your enthusiasm for chasing squirrels got me laughing so hard haha. Can't wait for the efi videos!

Thanks Destin! That was awesome! An amazing complex. And thanks to Holley for allowing you to share it with us.

Loved it Destin! My first experiences with carbs were as a boy and I didn't understand them at all. Wait a quarter century and a move to the US and now having chainsaws and mowers I've had to strip and clean them. Definitely an art form creating them. And definitely needs attention to make sure they don't sludge up over the winter lol I'd love to you see look at EFI too. Things like injector timing, direct injection, diesel VS gas injectors. Atomization patterns and how they've changed. All my automotive knowledge is self taught so I thank you for adding to it!

Thank you for seriously considering the trust that is placed in you. Yes, you're content creating, but you're being trusted with levels of detail for us because of that cap, smile, and upfront honesty. This is why I patreon for you. Because this is real, serious, and meaningful. Dale Earnhardt.

Technically correct is the best kind of correct!

14:50 carbs have been used since the turn of the century. That would be 21 years ago.

Colin Richardson

Like the video. I will share this when it goes public.

'Murica! ;D

That-Other-Guy

Soon as I am done with this chapter in my book I am off to watch.

Michael Wellman

Just finished it, I love me a good factory tour.
