Planting 20 Million Trees! #TeamTrees

This one was incredibly fun to make!  My grandfather tried to plant longleaf pines back in the day, and I never understood why.  This video felt like getting in a time machine (with more scientific data) and visiting my grandfather.  I hope you enjoy it!

Also, www.teamtrees.org is where we're raising money for the Arbor Day Foundation.  It's fun knowing you can convert a few dollars to tangible physical trees!  I highly recommend it.  I plan on donating in my grandather's name, as well as donating for each of my children.

A couple of weeks ago, I was watching this video when my eight y/o son came into the room and laid down and watched it with me. He enjoyed your explanations and had some great questions, plus asked if we could donate to #teamtrees, which I said we would do in the morning. Life being what it is, I forgot all about it. We were playing a game this morning, and he said, "Did we donate our trees, Dad?" We immediately came into the office and made our contribution so I wouldn't forget again. I was proud of him for both remembering and insisting he pays for half of the donation with his allowance. I wanted you to know your videos have positively impacted our family and our goal to raise our son to not just look after himself and his family but to reach out and help others whenever he can.

Destin, cool seeing you talk to the guys at Auburn and discussing prescribed burning. We used that quite extensively and to great effect for invasive specie control and native specie reclamation in the upper plains states. We were able to turn some pretty scrubby land back into thriving areas filled with sedges, bluestems, ryes, and gamas; not to mention all the coneflower, goldenrod, and lilies for the pollinators!

Destin, I’m loving all the long leaf content. One of the coolest experiences of my life was working a controlled burn at Tall Timbers research facility just north of Tallahassee, FL. https://talltimbers.org/ They have smallish 50’x150’ rows that small teams were able to control burn. They precut all the fire breaks and teach you how plan a controlled burn (back burn to exhaust fuel on the downwind edge, then light the leading edge to let the winds carry the hot fire fast to adequately eliminate the underbrush). It was a completely fascinating experience.

Dustin, why not partner with Plant for the Planet? their goal is 1 trillion trees and they've already planted 13.6 billion trees.

Just hit the $1mm mark. I'd like to think it was my contribution that put it over. :)
