Hued - Ch. 29 (impact)

Hope had never given much thought to competitive battling, mostly because she was dismissed before she had even taken her first steps as a trainer.

A few months ago, when she and her age mates slowly began to turn 10 years old, her enthusiasm had been high. As each birthday passed, everyone began turning up in school with their starters tagging along, creating constant excitement leading up to their graduation.

When it had reached her turn, Hope walked proudly to school with Azuri...

Hued - Ch. 28 (all out)

Before Gray could even compose himself, the multicolor lightshow dominated the entire field, especially since it came from two sources simultaneously.

Mega Altaria released a beautiful song as soon as he finished evolving, immediately drawing attention to the beauty and grace that came naturally to him.

But Gray’s attention was fully focused on Mega Raichu in front of them. Raichu had retained his orange fur, but now had extra horn-like protrusions sticking off the top of his he...

“What the hell was that?” Lt. Surge asks after a prolonged moment of silence.

“Hmm? It’s a combination move. We call it Mystical Gleam, basically adding a Mystical Fire just as Hatteren fires Dazzling Gleam.”

“… That combo’s pretty deadly, boy.”

“Thank you!” said Gray, oblivious to the wary glances now being thrown at him and Hatterene.

Unbeknownst to the trainer, the cameras had managed to capture the predatory grin on Hatterene’s face as she f...

The audience applauded loudly at the match, some satisfied with how things played out while others grumbled at Lt. Surge taking first blood.

Said gym leader was giving Gray a foxy grin, daring him to crumble now that he was in the lead.

Gray frowned at the Luxray on the field, noting his golden eyes as he waited for his next opponent.

Lt. Surge, unprovoked, explains to Gray and the crowd what had just happened, something which would normally be appreciated but was instead ra...

Ash and Gary dashed out of the hotel doors and stepped into the afternoon light, eager and excited for today’s adventure.

As promised, Azumarill and Sylveon were by the boy’s side, comfortably keeping up with the boys’ excited pace.

Confident that his two nephews would be out of trouble in the day time, Gray sauntered behind them, relaxed and at ease.

Strolling through the streets of Vermilion under daylight was a different experience. The streets were crowded, f...

The world flashed black and white as crackles of electricity tore through Stantler.

She screamed, a terrible grating thing that had some trainers on the stands flinching.

As soon as the Thunder ended, she fell to the ground in a heap, unconscious and scorched black in some places.

“Stantler is unable to battle. The Challenger’s pokemon have all fainted. Gym Leader Lt. Surge wins!”

“Rai-chu!”

No one claps, too stunned by the violence they just witnessed....

Hued - Ch. 23 (great gray the giver)

Waking up in his own bed in Pallet was surreal. When Gray was traveling around to collect his badges the first time around, he had to make do with camping in the rough. But now, he could collect badges in the day and be home with Grandpa Sammy at night for dinner.

Honestly, 10/10 experience, would highly recommend again.

Gray felt his mood remain high as he did his morning ablutions, nearly skipping on his way down for breakfast.

Unfortunately, he had probably jinxed himself...

Hued - Ch. 22 (homecoming trouble)

Gray feels a burst of energy surge through him as he lands back in Pallet Town. The journey had been quick and painless, Ash chattering away at everything and nothing.

In the brief moment they spoke with Brock’s family, Ash had somehow formed a tentative bond with the gym leader’s younger siblings. Of course, it mostly involved arguments and adamance as to whose big brother/uncle was a better trainer, but they seemed to have enjoyed themselves regardless.

Gray had to fight a b...

The disappointment that came with losing a match in front of the whole city vanished, every iota of Brock was now hyperfocused on the man in front of him.

He had aged terribly, wrinkles now framing his once youthful face. Flint had always had laugh lines and crow’s feet, but they were now his least prominent wrinkles. His visage was now dominated by creases on his brow, as if he had constantly been frowning instead of smiling in the years he had been gone

Back in Pallet Town, the Oak family watched Gray’s match on the widest possible screen they could. They were all present, watching every exchange intently, cheering at each win and groaning at every loss. Basically a wholesome but unofficial family event.

So of course, joining them were a gaggle of scientists making sure to capture every battling moment of Gray’s team.

They rushed about, discussing theories on Azumarill’s monstrous strength, Carbink’s prowess and Clefable...

Gray fields his next pokemon, Azumarill, whose reappearance causes the crowd’s anticipation to grow.

He appears unimpressed with the mega evolved pokemon in front of him and Gray silently promises that if Azumarill dared to yawn in its face, he’d deduct some of his reward treats.

Thankfully, Azumarill doesn’t do anything too blatant. Gray can’t do anything about the boredom that seems to ooze out of him, so he’ll just have to spin it as overconfidence on his pokemon’s ...

Ash is once again cheering, this time wordlessly, in his corner of the gym audience. Just behind him were two young twins crying, a girl with brown spiky hair comforting them in between.

A small voice inside Gray’s head tells him he should chastise the boy for the slight callousness, but he refused to call the boy out in the middle of the match and direct attention to him. He was already worried about how much shenanigans Ash would get up to in the future, no need to contribute to mak...

Gray laughs until the beginning of tears begin to form. Ash was too shameless.

The exchange causes the icy silence of the gym to thaw. Murmurs began, until seemingly everyone had some sort of opinion.

“Golem is unable to battle. Azumarill wins.”

Brock unclenches and recalls his fallen Golem. He’s back to his unmovable persona, calmly examining the Azumarill on the field.

Inside though, the first wisps of uncertainties rise. How in Arceus’ name did this tiny cre...

The night before his first match against Pewter City gym, Gray found himself relaxing in his ostentatious hotel room, happy to idly watch Ash interact with his pokemon.

Hued - Chapter 15 (how to trainer)

Now, Gray can’t claim to be as intellectual as his famed grandfather, but it doesn’t take a genius to calculate what exactly transpired.

1 + 1 = 2. Ash beaming in joy as a pokeball registers a successful capture plus Zapdos nowhere around equals to headaches for Gray.

Simple math, really.

“Absolutely not,” he announces with finality.

The clash between titans was nothing short of devastation.

Unsatisfied with how their initial bout went, Zapdos tried to overwhelm its opponent from a distance.

It gathered electrical energy for a few moments before unleashing a bolt that honed in on its foe.

Altaria, undeterred, spun and twisted in the air to shake off the legendary bird’s Thunderbolt. However, Zapdos’ control over his element was unparalleled, capable of following the fairy’s agile dodging.

Gray and Ash slowly descended into their destination — a valley towered by unspoiled mountaintops. Its surrounding peaks were so high that it cast eerie shadows on the abandoned compound nestled within.

Gray lounged on the plastic seat of Pewter Gym’s stadium, content to watch rookie trainers get beaten one after another.

In contrast, Ash had yet to stop vibrating in excitement. Without care for his own safety, Ash twisted his body to face his uncle. Altaria immediately grumbled...

Gray spent his journey to the laboratory trying to even his breathing, telling himself that it was counterproductive to punch his brother in the face for Ash’s lack of knowledge about his own father.

Gray’s release of one pokeball in the air was followed by multiple pops emanating from his inner jacket. It never failed to amuse Gray that trainers never truly needed to manually throw pokeballs in the air, as pokemon were more than capable of releasing themselves from their own pokeballs.

While pokeballs could be adjusted to prevent self-release, it was considered poor form on the trainer’s part to do so indefinitely. Trainers were meant ...
