If you want to know how this marvel works, just watch the next video... it explains Everything you want to know. I chose to break this up into two videos because it was so cool.

I asked HaptX for a blurb to explain their company. This is what they came up with:

HaptX is a multidisciplinary team of engineers based in San Luis Obispo, CA and Seattle, WA that builds advanced haptic technology. Their first product, HaptX Gloves, brings touch feedback to VR with unprecedented realism, enabling a new category of industrial training simulations. Founded by Jake Rubin and Dr. Bob Crockett in 2012, HaptX won’t stop until you can’t tell what’s real from what’s virtual. Learn more at haptx.com.

If you're interested in working for them, here's a link:

This looks fantastic. I am also a VR nonbeliever, and favour AR, or a mix of the two.

So between this and binaural audio we get closer and closer to total immersion... Cool. I can't wait for that kinda tech to be tied to industry, I'd LOVE to be able to control the overhead crane at work with a set of those gloves... Might have to add a second hook for total control of the load, but it would be so nice to "grab" the part with virtual gloves and Feel the changes in wight distribution as it shifts about...

That's amazing, they're finally going down the 'Wearable Holodeck' path! I'm really excited by the ecological potential of the whole suite in combination too, you can really limit the need for disposable junk and turn a lot of existing physical products into virtual ones. (I've been excited about it coming from a slightly different direction, but I think we're all converging on the same concept) https://medium.com/brains-are-fun/the-inevitable-incredible-wearable-holodeck-9463bb109e72

Destin... great video and I'm looking forward to this series. Another type of haptic device in use is the one we use to train astronauts in VR at JSC. Not sure if you remember, but you came by our VR lab once (but you were just there for a very brief time). But we have a mass simulator robot that the crew members use with VR to feel how mass-handling will feel in zero G (since the NBL unfortunately would have drag from the water). Anyhow, if you would ever like to come by and try out the mass simulator, let me know and we can set it up.

Wow. I'm not a fan of VR either, but you and the HaptX team have changed my mind. I'd love to work there (although there are a few minor obstacles, the first one is that it would be a 2 hr drive back up to MB from SLO to see my sister and nephew). Maybe it's good that there aren't any current openings related to my skillsets! LOL

This is amazing. I just finished my 2nd listen of RPO on Audible and loved listening again. And to follow up with this is wonderful. I've got a vive as I fell in love with the new VR immediately and had to have it. The educational opportunities before us are unimaginable to me. I love giving my son experiences like the "Go For Launch: Mercury" where he gets to be in the capsule and "launch" the craft himself. I can't wait for this sort of tech to be shrunk down for home use. I'll be one of the first on board (assuming my bitcoin is worth enough to afford it.) Anyway, I look forward to the rest of the series! It's gonna be a wild ride watching our kids grow up to see the oasis. I just hope it's not Oasis by Facebook. Is there an open-source oasis in the works yet? .... hmmmm.....

I got to play with a much earlier prototype, where you put your hand in a box. But you could see all the actuators inside doing their thing. I was amazed at how little resolution was needed to make things feel so real. It was a fascinating and amazing experience.
