[EARLY ACCESS] How Jirard The Completionist Saved a Cancelled Indie Showcase

Hey Patrons,

A bonus video for the main channel coming courtesy of Frank Howley who originally attended this event to do a feature on indie games for Noclip Crew. When the event was called off due to permit issues Frank was on site to capture the resulting story.

It's going up tomorrow so we'd love to know what you think!

[EARLY ACCESS] How Jirard The Completionist Saved a Cancelled Indie Showcase

No I hear you and appreciate the feedback. I'll have to check out the latest Insert Credit too - thanks for the heads up.

Noclip

I definitely agree and appreciate you highlighting games that made it to their office/stream! I’m sure it’s tough to double check Cali permits but just wish more accountability was held. Hearing the heart break in folks voice like this week’s Insert Credit was just rough to process. I do hope they do more to support the devs that wasted their time and money in the months to come and do think their mission is super important but I do hope someone investigates what shenanigans happened and holds the proper party accountable for the losses. Since it’s a place in LA my money is certainly on the venue and it’s sad the folks that run MIX had to be caught holding the bag due to someone’s mess up or someone targeting the event.

Mike

This is great! And a good reminder that I need to go watch the VOD of that stream.

This was a great save for what was a bad situation a load of devs found themselves in through no fault of their own. Love you were there for it Frank and we got to share in how it turned around

I'll say as somebody who used to work in event management I did find it odd initially, but I have no way of knowing what misrepresentation was done by the venue with regard to the permits. That spot has hosted similar several gaming events in the past. I'm assuming as the very least there was some malpresentation done and it sounds like legal action is following. But short of a talking to all involved and investigating we can't get closer to that truth. The MIX has hosted dozens of events in cities all around America for over 8 years by my count so I don't feel like Noclip is promoting an organization which has a history of fucking people over. If we can shine a light on some of the games that fell foul of this I think it's a good thing.

This is AWESOME. Jirard is one the best dudes out there. Thanks a bunch for doing this Frank!

Putting the blame on the venue and not taking ownership is just irresponsible as a promoter of an event. People spend tens of thousands of dollars to travel to an event and you don’t ensure the venue has proper permits? How is NoClip promoting that that is okay? This is a huge bummer. I’ve never done promoting work in Cali but in my state and at my events I know to confirm permits, fire code, legal capacity, parking etc. this is entirely on the promoter and it’s a bummer to shrug it off and not take ownership (besides relocating to an office). Just my point of view I guess

Mike

I kinda love the idea of you guys getting into more on-the-spot reporting. Documenting things as they happen. :p Great story!

MittenFacedLass

Really cool story. Jirard is a great guy turning something that would have bummed a lot of those devs out into a heartwarming experience where they still got to show off their games.

Cool little story and some weird ass indie games! Love it! Frank makes this style of videos that kinda makes you feel you were also at the event. My first thought was that it needed some more drama at the start, but this probably shows very well how it actually was.

The sheer luck that Frank just happened to be there is amazing hap and surcumbstance. Wanted to see a little more detail on this and thanks.
