Tim Schafer Breaks Down 20 Years of Double Fine Games | Noclip

A little something for the holidays, Patrons!

This one took a little longer than usual but once you start watching you'll probably see why. Jeremy did an awesome job editing this story together and cleaning up the rough audio (Tim used a Rock Band mic - thinking it would be better than his crappy webcam). And once I had the project back to do graphics, I realized just how long and fun it was and wanted to add a little special sauce.

The video charts the 20 years studio of Double Fine, detailing stories about practically every game released during that time. To further obfuscate the rough footage and audio I filmed chunks of the video against a portable CRT in my office and used it as a visual wrapper for the whole video. I recorded a bunch of the process and will be sharing it in this month's Noclip Edit Club.

A fun collaboration between myself and Jeremy in a year where we've sadly had to spend most of it working separately.

Happy Holidays folks.

Danny

Yea very true. We've had a bunch of them record audio and video locally, but often being able to record "dirty" is the thing that gets us the interview secured. A lot of PR are worried about overburdening their folks. it's kind of case by case in my experience anyway

Seconding Riccardo's comment on the audio, that turned out great and is often overlooked when producing videos. After skipping through the Editing Club video, props also for coming up with the idea of using the CRT to put bad audio in a context where it's expected. If Zoom/Discord etc. can't provide the quality, wouldn't it be possible for your interviewees to record audio or maybe even video locally at the same time?

Loved this one! Big fan of all Double Fine's games.

I don't know what black magic happened to get the audio as good as it is, but damn fine work there, Jeremy! A great edit overall, it's always fun to hear from Tim. Loved the addition of the CRT clips - great idea to freshen up the format. Merry Christmas and happy holidays folks, thanks for all the fantastic docs in this wonky year.
