Patron Poll - Are you a satisfied Patron?

Hey folks!

I'm about to take a transatlantic flight which usually means I sit down and think about Noclip and what we should be doing for 6-9 hours. It's been a crazy week of booking 2019 projects but I'm also looking at the ways in which we could be doing a better job.

My feeling is that the past 2 years did a solid effort of putting down a foundation of work, and that in 2019 I'd like to continue to do more doc work and really grow and engage our community here on Patreon, and outside of Patreon. But first I want to get an idea of how you feel about your patronage. Some of you have been with us for over two years, some of you are new. I'd like to know how you feel about being a Patron, what you expect in return, and the things you'd like to see more of.

So if you have a moment I'd love for you to fill out the attached poll and answer these questions in the comments.

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron?

- What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast)

- In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating?

- Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied?

Please be brutally honest! I want nothing more than to sustain a really healthy Patreon and make sure you are all happy with the work we are doing. I appreciate criticism because it helps me do better work - and that is ultimately the goal here. We have the resources to do loads more cool stuff and I just want to make sure our goals align with your desires as much as is possible.

Thanks so much for your time. I'm very grateful.

Danny

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? I for one don't care about all the special bonuses I get for being a patreon. I just enjoy supporting these high quality docos. - What is your favourite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) I highly enjoy the docos about the games, the studios and communities that created them. I don't listen to the podcasts purely because I'm not a podcast person. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? I wish that you could break hour long docos into smaller 20 min episodes. (Like you did with Doom.) I for one didn't like how the Horizon doco was one big video. Please cut it up into multiple episodes so I don't have to watch an hour long doco in one sitting. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? In the future could you give us the option to vote for which game/studio you'll do a document on next. Thanks.

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? I only became a Patron to make sure you are able to produce more content - I don't really use my Patron privileges :) - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) No matter the size of the studio I just love the stories of blood sweat and tears. The podcast is amazing as you find completely different people than the other gaming podcasters - this feels unique and super fresh. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? Not really - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? - YES - the only problem I have is the amount of content - I need more! As you are such a good storytellers I'd love to see more supersmall projects that you can produce more often and more easily.

I signed up for the indie docs, but seeing how much goes into games of all scopes is really fascinating. This is one of my favorite game spaces on the internet 🙂

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) Behind the scenes stuff about the 'why' of design decisions for the games you cover. Its really interesting to hear the things that devs try that doesnt work, why a particular feature/mechanic works a given way, etc. The Doom doc was fantastic for this. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? Nothing that comes to mind, honestly. More content is always good but i've prefer quality over quantity. As in 1 great doc a year would be worth more to me than just pushing out content every week - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? Put up the patron exclusive vids for everyone (with an appropriate delay). I don't support your work so i can get the inside gossip, its because your content is fantastic, even the casual patreon Q&As. I'm more than happy to pay to make sure the content exists, having it be 'exclusive' isnt that important to me. The only other thing is to keep a handle on your mental health. Its something people really don't think about enough and its been really great to see you tackle it head on. Healthy danny will make better docs :)

Favorite thing about being a patron: I love seeing the quality docs that come out of Noclip. Seems as though the subject matter is treated with the respect it deserves. Favorite content: Coverage of AAA studios. Things that are frustrating: I think the focus should be on established games that have already been released. A documentary is a great way to evaluate a game's impact once it has been in the wild for awhile. As much as I love Supergiant and Bethesda I was a bit frustrated to see a doc on a game that is in alpha and an unreleased (at the time) game. What would make me feel more satisfied as a patron: More docs on older games. I know it would be difficult to dig up stories on Atari, early Nintento, and Sega games. But you should be able to track down early Xbox/PS2 era games. Also, a doc on Double Fine and an interview with Ken Levine would be great additions. Keep up the great work. I'm patron because I believe the history of gaming should be archived in some form. Don't listen to the YouTubers asking you to be critical of the current controversy of the day. Memorialize the games and the creators. I hope you can keep pulling off this gig for many years to come. Cheers.

Favorite type of content: primarily the AAA studios. I don't think that you're doing a bad job with anything, Danny. I'd like to see a few more behind the scenes videos, and I really love your editing videos (which is why I subbed at the higher tier patreon level), so I'd like to see more of those specifically. I don't mind the longer videos at all, but I'm probably in the minority with that one.

- What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) Interviews with the teams that make games, but maybe not so much the community managers. ;) - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? Please focus on doing a doc after a game has been out for a while, otherwise you may fall into the "Fallout Trap" again. The biggest thing to avoid is being used for PR and marketing a game. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? Make docs about some really old influential studios from the 70s and 80s. Here again, what I appreciate most about your videos are your interviews with the developers after a game has been released. Gives them time to reflect on the project, have better perspective, and more honest opinions of their work.

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? I just like supporting people who create content I enjoy. I don’t care about getting stuff early or any of the typical rewards stuff. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) AAA is my favorite. It’s great to see how some of the biggest and best games I’m playing are made. I look forward to seeing you guys embedded in a game’s production so we can follow along. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? You guys are doing things your way and I applaud it. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? I’m not as much of a fan of the longer videos (30+ min). I prefer when you split them into smaller chunks. That way it’s, (A) easier to find the time to watch and (B) things are split up into specific topics/subjects. Your Doom and Rocket League series were divided up really well.

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? Supporting the creation of great content made by great people. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) Personally I like the conversations that are more focused around game DESIGN, moreso than general development. Why developers choose to design a certain thing a certain way, how they executed certain mechanics, etc. It would be cool to hear musings from devs about how they go about the design process. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? Nothing I can think of. You guys run a tight ship and it shows. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? Maybe ask devs questions that are a little more technical.

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? It's a tie between the Discord and the BTS content/Patron show - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) I like it all equally. All good stuff. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? The only thing I can really think of here is that it seems like there's a lot of content that languishes in the editing phase. Seems like there are still a lot of things that were shot a long time ago that we've been waiting forever to see. That said, there's a huge amount of content, so it's not a huge deal. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? I think you try harder than any other Patreon I support to please your patrons. You put out an incredible amount/quality of work, and I can't imagine it getting much better!

Nicholas Decker

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? Getting access to the patron show and the behind the scenes videos. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) AAA studios, by far. I enjoy all the content, but I adore docs like Doom, Horizon and Bethesda. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? I wish you would be able to tell us earlier what to expect when. Like for the postponed doc now, why does it need to stay secret who/what it's about? I would much rather know now and then look forward to it, instead of getting a trailer 1-2 weeks in advance of it coming out. So to sum up, I wish there was more transparency so I would continually have something tangible to look forward to on noclip. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? See previous question

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? Supporting great documentaries and getting answers to video game questions I never knew to even ask! - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) All of the above to be fair. It's nice how you diversify your content and seem to regularly try to evolve and update your platform an content. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? Nothing major to report on that end. I'd say there are small teething problems still being worked out, but nothing I would classify as 'bad' or 'frustrating'. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? Projected plans for the next quarter. Release schedule thing. Even if it has 'redacted' all over it, it would be good to know what the upcoming schedule is in a visual format.

Joseph McNally

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? The interviews with the developers in combination with additional insights. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) I liked all about Half Life, Horizon Zero Dawn, Doom, Fallout, but I joined because of Spelunky and The Witness... - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? I would like to see (more) interviews with Indie developers / about Indie games. More about mobile games / gaming.

I'm actually the opposite, I spend so much time on the go the vast majority of media I consume is in podcast format. Agree to be careful on what could be seen, or ultimately used by another company as promotion content. The more you try the more you spread yourself thin, I'd probably be happier going back to the amazing content in year 1.

Edward Steele

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? Supporting your work. I like being able to support serious documentaries / journalism in the industry. The stories of the people and teams behind the game are fascinating. Showing the humanity in the art of creating games is important for people to see. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) I like the AAA studios as they are more in depth. That is, you get many more stories and get into deeper topics. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? I don't have any complaints so far. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? Most of the productions are comprised of one on one interviews. I'd really like to see groups of people from different teams (in the same company / subject of the documentary) being interviewed together. I think it is good to see how they interact with one another. Also, do mid range developers (AA ?), rather than just AAA and indies!

David Buhler

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? I love the behind the scenes stuff! - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) Indies all the way! - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? Nothing, honestly! More content? But I understand how this stuff takes time with shooting, editing and all the logistics. So I guess more content without it affecting the quality - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? Same thing, more content without it affecting the quality. But quality is better than quantity, so I'm good :)

Shell Comics

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? The feeling I get from supporting NoClip. You were always one of my favorite guests on Giant Bomb, whether it was podcasts or videos. Your personality lends itself so well to conducting interviews, and your passion for games is always front and center in everything you do. So knowing that I'm a tiny part of helping you live your dream and utilize your talents is my favorite thing about being a patron. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) I'll have to check out the podcast, though I rarely even have time in my week for the Bombcast anymore. But my favorite projects tend to be the AAA developers. It's not that I don't like hearing about the indie dev's stories, though. Often times, the indie are the most relatable and emotional stories, and I love them for that. But when you go in and do interviews with big developers that we all know, it provides so much insight into their inner workings, how decisions are made, where the ideas and inspiration comes from that eventually become the games we all know. It's also interesting to see how much they are willing to divulge. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? Like I said before, I think you're a natural at this. I don't believe in destiny (maybe Destiny 2 [jk]), but it's like you were born to do this. In another time, maybe it wouldn't have been games, maybe investigative reporting and profiling of some other kind, who knows. But you're doing a great job, and I'd be really surprised if anybody found some aspect of being your patron "frustrating". - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? Cover my favorite games! Just kidding, I know it's impossible to please everyone with what you cover, but even if it's a game I have no experience or interest in, I always enjoy how you cover it. If there's one very minor and very subjective piece of criticism I'd offer, it's that I didn't care for the John Romero piece as much as the game docs. Don't get me wrong, Romero is interesting as hell, and it's great that you got him on to tell his story, but something about it felt off to me. Kinda cynical, like maybe he thought he was being used, or he was trying to use you or something. Idk. I thought maybe it was the format until you did the profile on Brendan Greene, and I ended up absolutely loving that. So take that as you will, because I clearly can't even articulate it properly. Long story short, I love NoClip. Been here from the start, and I'll be here as long as you're still up for telling stories about games.

Chewy Minshew

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? I love feeling like I have a tiny part in telling incredible stories about an industry I love. And I love that I know that my money is going to be used by people who love the games industry, will seek out interesting stories to tell, and will handle those stories with care. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) I love watching the Docs that get made, specifically the ones on big games that I wouldn’t normally be interested in. The FF14 doc got me into that game actually. The Warframe doc got me to at least try it out. Every new Doc on a big budget game gives me new appreciation for the studio who made it and how video games even get made. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? Honestly, I don’t think so. It’d be cool to have the patreon show in podcast form. That way i could listen to it on a commute or something. But other than that, I think that NoClip is the most well run Patreon I know of. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? Free Candy.

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? In general, I like supporting stuff I like and hopefully helping to ensure it continues. For Noclip: The Q&A videos even though I myself never ask anything. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) Hard to pick a favourite type of content, so far I've liked everything that's been produced. You forgot to list culture stuff (HL, GTA, Fighting games) - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? Even though I get why things are the way they are, a more regular release schedule (maybe of the non doc content) would probably help this patreon and the youtube channel's growth. Communication during the slower times (even if you can't say what you're busy with, just letting us know you're busy with something) - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? See above, overall I'm pretty satisfied.

Raymond

I mostly enjoy being a patron because I love see what goes on behind the scenes into making videogames as well as getting to hear from some of my favorite developers and see what goes on inside their head. My favorite content personally are the indie games, especially the Spelunky and The Witness. Those were fantastic and the main reason I became a patron I'm sure you've heard the saying if you try to please everyone you'll end up pleasing no one. Focus on the stuff your passionate about and I think that will be the best way to get us excited about your content. Maybe more smaller videos/interviews between big projects for a more steady flow of content.

Gregory Hones

i would say that of the 5 patreons i support yours is the one that i actually get value beyond just supporting the channel... the extra videos are great and just backing your future projects is enough so thats some good ol' lagniappe

Apothecarrion

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? The regular content, the quality of the content and the breadth of the content - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) I like them all actually, naturally the AAA studios are more interesting in the sense that you get insight into these nebulous operations whereas indie projects inevitably end up just being 3 guys in a room. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? I'd prefer in the patron shows if you answered more questions but rambled less, my favourite issue was weirdly the one where you had your baby and had to 'type out' responses to the questions. This turned out to be a nice read and was very succinct. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? The capacity for patrons to vote on future content AND more bonus level - that's why I signed up - your insights and rants on the industry are what got me convinced to sign up when you were at gamespot and I'd love for that to continue. You're doing a great job. :)

* What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? The excitement of hearing about new doco series, and then seeing the results when they come out. Particularly with Horizon Zero Dawn, the Half Life doco, and the Bethesda/Fallout 76 series, the wait & the payoff were great. * What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) AAA studios - though I really enjoyed the Half Life documentary, and I'm liking the new podcast format (big podcast listener) - that might become the bigger thing for me in the future. * In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? I would have said the podcast in the past, but I'm happy with the new plans & to see how they play out. So far so good for me. * Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? Nothing that I can think of right now :)

Patrick Hanlan

Only since you ask, because when your work is on point, it's unparalleled: There are a few choice bits of the smaller content I enjoy, but for the most part, I can do without them. I have no interest in podcasts anymore. It used to be my primary source for videogame infotainment, but nowadays I just don't have the attention span. I try listening to them while doing something else, but it just detracts from both. Video podcasts (whatever that means) are better. I really wish the podcast with Rami was filmed. Still haven't listened to it; I just have a deep distaste for podcasts now. The big push for more funding before the Half Life doc, and the resulting doc, was kind of underwhelming. That's probably more due to my lack of enthusiasm toward Half Life than the quality of the doc itself, but it was underwhelming nonetheless. It's a shame that the current project got pushed back; it's resulted in a long lull, especially after that huge funding push and supposed production increase that IMO hasn't manifested. If I had it entirely my way, you'd focus all efforts and resources on major docs and nothing else at all. I don't need a barrage of smaller content, I usually ignore, just so I know you're doing something. I know the magic will come. I can wait. That being said, the content I've enjoyed from Noclip far exceeds the money I've put into it. Hell, The Witcher series alone was probably worth the money I've put into this. Your docs are the best out there, and I look forward to the next. P.S. Be careful with the promotional stuff. Your stuff is too good to be dragged through the mud by a disappointing game. (Though, I'm partial to SuperGiant, and excited for that series.)

Clay A Binkley

Can't say I'm impressed with the unofficial marketing angle the show's manifested as. I was keen on seeing real documentaries on the industry but what we've ended up with has been very disappointing, and a detriment to gaming.

Chris Fallins

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? I don't "enjoy" paying for anything, Danny. :P But I do recognize the value of your work so am glad to be able to support it. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) TBH I've enjoyed all your output so far, but I do love the looks at the big AAA games I've played because seeing how these hugely expensive sausages are made is fascinating. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? Not for this Patron! I'd love it if you could pump out more content, but not if it affected the quality. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? As before. It'd be great if you could put out more content, but not at the expense of quality.

TDC

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? Seeing high quality docs from a range of studios and games. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) All of it, specially looking forward to the Hades series now, but I love seeing how all the devs work and hear them talk about all the interesting things they are doing with their games, where their inspiration comes from etc. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? nothing - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? just keep going <3 Been here from the start and I am incredibly satisfied with all the docs, podcasts etc. thats been released :D

All is good, really glad to help in this. Personally I would welcome more mini-docs or podcasts on how specific and important games were made, the creative and technical aspects of the elaboration and production processes. Not necessarily AAA games, but games that historically had a big impact. That’s what I prefer, but everything is great. Keep it up and kudos on noclip - it takes guts to start from scratch as you did.

Thomas Gerardin

I love supporting you. Keep up the good work!

Y'all are doing a great job as far as I'm concerned. My favorite content from you is anything that makes me think about something differently; you've done a great job doing that. I had passed on DOOM 2016 until your doc and now it's one of my favorite recent shooters and I can't wait for the sequel. I knew nothing about FFXIV and then I did a deep dive on even more lore and spent several months playing it daily. I'd also say I really dig the podcast thus far, both the heavily and lightly produced models. I don't follow many gaming podcasts and it's nice to have something for my commute that I'm so interested in, especially since you've picked things out of my wheelhouse to introduce me to.

Max Jahner

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? I love supporting NoClip because not only do I enjoy the content you make, your personality that you bring to it and the quality/professional standard in your content, but I think the content you are doing is incredibly important. It brings to light what game development is like more to fans and consumers who may not understand the process behind game development (I work for a games studio now myself doing community management). But it also is a great way to look back and learn more about specific games, what happened be able to save them for historical reasons too. So I'm very happy to support for not only the entertaining content for myself personally, but because how important I think it is (and hence why I also support at the highest level :) ) - What is your favourite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) I enjoy pretty much all of the content you put out through NoClip (although sometimes I can be slow to watch new stuff, mostly just being busy and not having the time for days or weeks after they've been published). But the in-depth looks into game studios, their history and the behind the scenes of a games development are my favourite to watch, whether it be Triple A or indie. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? I don't think you've ever done anything bad! And there isn't anything that comes to mind for even minor things (which is a really good thing!). Maybe just more content? (Coming from the person who takes a while to catch up at times) Which isn't easy, you have a certain level of bandwidth yourself, so maybe working with individuals more like you have recently to cover communities and smaller indie developers with interesting stories. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? Although in my last answer I asked for more, that's just if you have the bandwidth, with resources and time to be able to make it happen. Regardless I've loved everything you've put out and I'm very happy and satisfied with the Patreon. Maybe one thing I would have said last year is the things outside of the main content being a little inconsistent, but I often don't have the time to watch all the Q&As and updates so it's not as relevant to me. However you seem to be more focused and on top of that now which is even better! Which I'm sure others who are more switched on and following more closely will appreciate :)

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? Supporting Danny so he can do what he loves and I get to continue to enjoy his work! - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) I guess indies, but AAA is a close second. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? No complaints. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? No. I'm happy to continue supporting Noclip :-)

vt_steve

I am satisfied with the work you do. It's fills the hole left by 1UP.com. Speaking of 1UP, some 1UP Show-like content would be cool. Just some games press or developers casually chatting about current games. The AAA content appeals to me more than the indies. Indie stuff is fine, but it's like, all the same "Indie Game the Movie" stories. The indie games that really stand out are cool. But another sidescroller anything just makes me glaze over and check my phone. The Half Life doc didn't really do it for me. I like HL, played it in my youth and all that. Without the studio participating it felt like outsiders talking about the good ol' days. If Valve didn't want in, there isn't much else you could do with that. I really do appreciate what you do. I pay the same to you and Drew, and you make more content. So, thanks for that.

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? I just enjoy supporting you. This is the kind of work I've always wanted to see and even having a small part in helping it's funding is enough. I enjoy talking with people in the discord. The bonus videos are just that, a nice bonus. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) I love when you tell more personal stories about things surrounding games. The Mysteries doc was my favorite for a while, and then the Hillbilly Agenda doc became my favorite. Highlighting people, concepts, and communities is what I want to see more of. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? Bad is a strong word. I don't think y'all are doing anything poorly or causing frustration. Are there things to improve? Sure. I'd maybe like to see some more varied shooting styles in the docs than just talking heads. You've already started experimenting with this in the Half Life talk with those Mesa segments. More stuff like that! But again, bad is too strong of a word. I think you're doing great and can only get better. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? Hmmmm. Feelings pretty satisfied makes this a hard question to answer haha. Like someone above said, I think maybe more opinion pieces would be fun. Trying to get Bonus Level to be more frequent. Or stuff in your personal channel like you did with the red dead preview/rapid fire "reviews". Not technically noclip though, so maybe that doesn't really apply.

I personally mainly use Patreon as a donation service to support things I like. Any kind of reward I get for being a Patron is essentially a bonus. So as long as the content I support gets made and is good I'm a satisfied Patron.

Albin

Honestly the only thing that comes to mind to “improve” Noclip is more opinion-piece content from you Danny. I absolutely loved The Point and it is the main reason I followed you when you left GameSpot and signed up as a Patron upon your Noclip announcement. I wanted more of that, you were the only one reeeeally doing that high-quality opinion piece and it was so refreshing. Don’t get me wrong I enjoy your other content also, I’d just love a little more like The Point returning :)

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? A: The main reason I'm happy to continue funding Noclip is the finished content is always of a really high standard. Whatever is featured mightn't always be in my wheelhouse but I know that both the editorial quality and the production quality will generally make it worth watching. I'm also glad people are engaging in actual journalism or storytelling on videos games. Pretty much all coverage of video games is about what's trending or what's new so I'm glad there's an alternative. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) A: In terms of docs. probably AAA stuff. I'd definitely look forward to those more than indie-focused content, but I'm fairly happy with the balance that there's been so far. I think the profiles are great as well. I'd definitely like to see more Bonus Level and things like that too. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? A: The release schedule could probably be a bit more reliable. I get that with the main docs, you can't really set those in stone since no two are the same in terms of parts or length but I think it would help if there were one or two things that were reliable, even if it was just fortnightly. Something like a Noclip Session or Bonus Level. The lack of continuity on some stuff, particularly the Op-eds, has been a bit of a bummer too. Danny's Disk Club lasted one episode I think and we've had two episodes of Bonus Level in a year. Even the podcast is pivoting after three episodes. I've enjoyed every form of content you've done so far, Sessions, Op-eds, profiles, story podcast, new podcast, they're all great ideas and executed well but things disappear or change direction a bit too often. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? The long-form stuff is great but I think you've now set yourself an impossible standard of what can and can't go up on the Noclip page. I'm sure there is loads of stuff you've wanted to do for Bonus Level, for example, but just feel it's not quite 'there' as a finished product. Getting that level of polish on the docs so they can stand the test of time is great but, in my opinion, not everything has to be to that standard. I enjoy the stuff on your personal Youtube page as much as the stuff on Noclip. I get that you want to differentiate between funding Noclip and funding just Danny O'Dwyer but I'd imagine there's a huge appetite for more Random Encounter or The Point-esque stuff, things that are a bit more light-hearted and with a bit more of your personality. Again, I get that maybe you don't want to muddy the Noclip page with that kind of content but I think there's definitely a place for it. And, for the love of God, please bring back A Tournament of Lies! Overall, I think Noclip is really good and I'm more than happy to continue funding, but if you're looking for feedback, that's my two cents.

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? I like the feeling of knowing I am supporting independent ad-free content and seeing the success you have gained from it. I also like the content you produce, it's very well edited, well spoken and a great presentation of gaming content. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) My favourite content is when you highlight areas of gaming I don't hear much about. My favourite videos have been the GTA gang (Hillbilly Agenda) and the recent Spooky video. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? I wish there was more of a community feel to the Patreon. An idea that comes to mind would be online screening parties for new videos. More meetups would also be cool. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? The Patron question answering videos are really long. Any chance you can break them up or add time codes to the description so I can jump to different questions?

Richard Pilgrim

I totally enjoy the depth of the interviews, I learn so much of what goes into a good game, the passion of the creators and the feelings they express. Thank you

Jhampa Shaneman

I just want the interesting stories. My favorite so far is probably FFXIV

Matthew Bell

- Early access and, of course, the docs themselves. Also the knowledge that I'm supporting a type of games coverage (sorry to use such a corporate speak-y term) that I feel is important. -I think the podcasts are fantastic and I don't really have a strong opinion about AAA docs vs indie docs. But I guess if I had to pick one, I'd go with indies if only because there's always an interesting story or point of view on why they made this particular game in this particular style and why you can't do this in a AAA space and so on and so forth. -You put the docs out at a reasonable rate, when you don't you're transparent about why, I get enough benefits for my patronage. If I have one complaint, I guess it's that there's sort of a lack of follow-through on certain concepts you introduced that I got excited about. As a fan of The Point, I got into the idea of Bonus Level and I really liked the Profile videos. But there's only one or two of both. Which is fine, but I guess I'm saying there's a very mild whiplash I get from being told "Here's a cool thing we're doing" and then only getting very little of the thing. I am selfish and spoiled. -More Bonus Level. More of that sweet sweet editorial content. Also, and I think you'd agree, the docs made by Esteban and Alanah and others were lovely, and I wouldn't mind some more Dream Daddy/Spooky style videos from outsiders. But I'm a satisfied patron, and that's me at my most brutally honest.

Uncle Jam

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? Seeing the fruits of your labour. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) The main documentaries. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? No real complaints, I'm surprised at just how much work you're getting done. Please take care of your health. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? I assume many people would like a pretty consistent schedule but that's hard to do in your line of work. The regular podcast is a good idea to give people this. But I always worry you are taking on more work than you can handle. The only way to counter that is hiring more people I guess. Difficult balance to strike.

Hassun

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? - Early access is good, patron show, podcast! - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) - Definitely the AAA stuff, great you've had lots of access to people. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? - No bad job. My one thing - and was me rather than you probably - is that I got a tiny (and I mean only a little) bit impatient during the gap last year and there was the "we can't say!" for a while, ha. But then it turned out to be Bethesda and the fact you'd been working on Fallout 76 stuff before anyone knew it existed (!) So was understood. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? - Well one thing I was previously hoping for was a more regular podcast which is happening. Uh... Danny's Disk Club/Bonus level? Or generally more personal stuff like your one-off Bloodborne video, little quick to make projects on what games have personally hit you.

Steve Fiori

- Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? The occasional hard hitting doc about a controversy or something. I know that's generally not your alls style but I feel like there are a lot of stories out there in the industry that nobody is touching for fear of getting blackballed or something. Like Jason Schreier has been getting some amazing scoops and stories but I am seeing nobody else doing that sorta hard hitting stuff

Nick Grugin

I've got no real complaints man, infact I went from being a $10 backer to a $30 one this year. I'd love to see more content but I know that good quality stuff takes time and you have a life to take care. Maybe in the future if you can hire a bigger staff we can have a few more videos a month but you've already basically said as much before so either way I'm not worried about the current flow. Great work to you and all the others who gave us content these past few years. By the way if you need any help with the keto diet let me know as I've been doing that plus intermittent fasting for about a year now so I'd be glad to share some tips!

Gabriel Costa (Hired Sword)

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? Getting to personally fund my favorite genre of film, about my favorite type of entertainment, from my favorite Creator of said content. It also just feels personal in a meaningful way. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) Love the AAA docs. Love getting to peak behind the curtain on any game development project. The story podcasts are awesome, and I love that we're getting a weekly one with a new person each time. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? Nothing is bad. I get a little disappointed when projects are pushed back, like the GB story podcast, but worth the wait always for the noclip quality. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? I love the personal style updates like the patron show. Would love anything more like that that's face to face and casual, but snappy editing! Great work !

Landon Robinson

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? Being able to support NoClip and the projects that you're pursuing. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) Anything about video game development really. We don't get a lot of insight into how that works but between some of your documentaries and things like Jason Schreier's book, it's really opening up what is traditionally a walled garden. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? Honestly, not really. The content trickles would be frustrating if you weren't giving constant updates, but you are so that's completely fine. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? You recently started doing more podcasts so that was pretty much the only box for me. Keep up the great work!

Paul Ludovicy

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? Being able to support you creating great content that you want to create. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) Bonus LVL, Danny's Disk Club A Tournament of Lies. I loved Bluffers Guides (escape from mount stupid later) and the point. after that probably Indies, then AAA. I haven't listened to the new podcast but I wasn't really in to the "produced" nature of the first couple. I prefer my podcast to be more conversational. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? The consistency of content releases. your long form docs are excelently made but I wish more content came out in between at regular intervals. Some times i feel like you guys promised too much side content and you may not be able to do all of it. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? More behind the scenes during and after a major production. B-roll releases (i know its at the whim of the content provider). more short form content on a regular schedule. Find time to make Bonus LVL A.K.A Danny's Disk Club A.K.A The point. I hate to say it but i do kinda like the raw blog content. -other thoughts: I wish there was a way on patreon to just see the privet video content without sorting through the past couple of years of post. Look into continuing to post your content on other platforms such as steam. Would love to see you on floatplane. its a privet video service being created by a tech youtuber to deliver videos at higher bit rates. i see it as an alternative to youtube and patreon subscriptions for your paid content. KEEP DOING WHAT YOUR DOING love the content looking forward for what comes next

Hey Danny! Going in order: 1.) The best thing about being a Patron is not only do I have the feeling of contributing in my very small way in making the kind of video game coverage I want to see more of possible, I especially enjoy the effort you make in constantly keeping Patrons and fans in the know as much as you can, as often as you can. General updates, the Patron show, and even this very call for feedback show you prioritize your supporters' input, and with the frequency in which you do it, it's RAD. 2.) My favorite type of content is more in line with the games I have interest in (DOOM, Horizon, God of War, etc.), whether they're full on docs or just one-off interviews. Size of the studio/game doesn't really matter as much as what's covered. That doesn't mean everything you've done hasn't been great, because it has! Despite not being a Half-Life, Witcher, or Fallout fan (among other things), I still watch EVERYTHING because it's a wonderful resource to learn not only about said games, but the people behind them as well, particularly when said people don't get enough positive spotlight. 3.) It's tough for me to say you're doing a bad job, and I've never been frustrated because I can empathize when you need to be secretive (like the upcoming postponed project), or when life happens and you need to switch stuff around. If I HAD to pick one aspect that could be improved, it's probably needing to be more clear (if possible) with how you are releasing particular KINDS of projects, meaning: Main docs, Podcast, Bonus Level, etc. Especially the latter, when there's only a couple of episodes, and you don't update (Having to put BL on hiatus because...). Again, I don't have an issue by not doing this as I'm sure things have a priority structure, but it's a little confusing from the outside (non-Patron) view, seeing docs, production classes, etc. in a seemingly random order. 4.) Absolutely not. I am BEYOND (beyond!) satisfied and excited to be a Patron. Personally, having a question read on the Patron Show is always a surprise and having any question/feedback taken, acknowledged or not, means much more than can be stated. The work you do is fascinating and desired, and getting an inside look on how you do it is worth so much more than I pledge, so speaking only for myself, you're doing fantastic. You're honest, transparent, check-in with Patrons often, and there's always something interesting to watch or look forward to from NoClip. Just keep being yourself, create the things you want, and you pretty much have my patronage for the entirety of its time Patreon, whether that's for years, decades, or however long that will be.

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? Funding docs for video games. Some of them are great and others are ok. I still enjoy them. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) AAA studios and indies. I'm flooded with podcasts atm. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? I'm overall happy with the job you're doing. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? Nah. keep up the good work.

ernest leitch

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? Knowing that I support the creation of content about video games with great quality. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) Definitely the documentaries. The in-depth interviews with people of the industry are always interesting. Podcasts are good but not something I am eager to listen to when they are released. It depends on what the episode is about otherwise I will leave them in my playslist to listen to eventually. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? I think trailers of coming documentaries are unnecessary. And I understand the gap between documentaries but maybe it could be filled with content that doesn't demand as much work as a documentary. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? Keep the great work!

Q: What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? A: Getting insights from the games industries. Q: What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) A: Video (and podcast) of AAA or indie with focus on game development. Not so much culture and content focused on political matters. A do however understand why these are important for you as a creater and I always listen or watch em. Q: In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? A: The content trickle is kinda slow. But as long as the quality stays the same or better I'm fine with the current speed. Q: Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? A: Focus more on the development side of the gaming industri.

I really like all variety of noclip docs. The polish and storytelling is amazing. I'm regularly inspired by the stories told. You are already doing the biggest thing I'd like to see, more regular content like the new podcast (the new format is great!) I think there should be fewer bigger docs so that more smaller things can be done (like the Mystery series, and Cory on God of War) While the big AAA stuff bring newer people in, I think regular content will keep people patrons. I really really like the docs that Alanah and Estaban did as well. Just like kinda funny is bringing new folks in to host KFGD, I'd love to see more folks making noclip docs. That will help make more regular content as well.

Scott Shawcroft

Dear Danny et al, 1) I enjoy supporting an endeavor that is very close to my heart. I am passionate about gaming like almost nothing else, and given the rapid development of the medium in the last 30 years I feel that it is crucial to step on the brakes every now and then to see what happened. I feel that your project is doing that, and supporting it is immensely satisfying. 2) This is a tough one. I have not disliked anything you guys made so far, but given my strong personal biases, I gotta say I loved the AAA doc about Doom and the half life legacy doc the most. HOWEVER, the short and casual chats are amazing as well. I am also a podcast addict and weekly noclip podcasts are amazing! 3) I can’t think of anything. 4) Keep up the good work!

c0mmanderKeen

Dear Danny et al,

c0mmanderKeen

1) Helping out people related to Giant Bomb, also the docs are good watches, also important for the industry. 2) AAA studios first and foremost because we don't get insight into video game development normally. Indies secondly because I enjoy watching the passion they have for their games. Podcasts last because I'm not sure how it's relevant to me when I've got two 2 hour+ Giant Bomb podcasts to listen to every week as it is, on top of my non-gaming weekly content. I will listen to yours on an episode by episode basis solely based on if the subject is about one of my interests of gaming. Podcasts based on FPS, Battle Royales & MOBAs for example will be promptly be ignored by me (respectfully). 3) I have heard nothing about the Jeff Gerstmann podcast. Is it recorded? If not when? If it has why is it already not up? Why has none of this information been provided already? Patreon is great generally when you have content to show but what gets on my nerves is when there's a significant length of time between updates on previously announced content (this can apply to all creators on Patreon, admittedly). I need to know more info, more whats, whys, whens and hows. 4) Do you remember Giant Bomb's I Love Mondays where they'd set stuff out for the week. They don't need it now of course because they have the upcoming bar that gives dates and times. But Patreon doesn't have that, so you'd be absolutely on my wavelength if providing information was a big deal.

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? I love having a chance to support Danny in continuing his work outside of the company-owned content production world, that being gaming content I genuinely enjoy is just a bonus. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) I enjoy the stuff about the games I've actually played the most (which includes indies more than anything), but all of noclip's content has encouraged me to seek out things I might not otherwise have. The more, the better! - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? The only frustrating thing is having to wait a little longer when a big doc has been completed or is entering production. The 2019 roadmap sounds like it will alleviate some of that lag, but it would be excellent to have noclip content every week, in some fashion. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? More noclip, please! Keep up the great work, take care of yourself and your family (and employees, as the brand grows), and do what interests you, as I'm sure I'll find the value in it that you do through your care and hard work on whatever the subject might be.

Jason Sigler

First, thank you, Danny &amp; Team, for a really great job, I become a patron after watching the witcher doc and to be really honest I don't care about the rewards I'm here to support you and its good to get something here and there, but I think there is a problem the frequency of uploading is a bit slow I understand the time and the effort that you put in each project and the high standers you follow, for me its not a problem take your time but for some I think it is ,and you will start losing some followers because of the mindset of the youtube watchers they used to a much faster base I know that's not your style but there is something you can do so you can upbase your uploads frequence without losing the quality I suggest if you can add to the team someone to start producing smaller scale projects with less production budget some examples Raycevick original work (<a href="https://goo.gl/xMxf45)" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://goo.gl/xMxf45)</a> also GVMERS (<a href="https://goo.gl/ApHPQH)" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://goo.gl/ApHPQH)</a> I think you get the idea, that will give you more time to foucse on the bigger pojects, also I like the podcast please make more of it :) . finally, sorry for my grammar and spelling English not my first language :) thank you again and keep going forward.

I don't have a lot to say, since I just became a patron yesterday, but I've been watching the documentaries for about a year now and after the God of War video I thought "That's it, I need to support these guys!". Great work, there! Furthermore, I hugely enjoyed the Bloodborne video you made recently as well as the Podcast with Rami Ismail.

Max Meraner

1) What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? - I love knowing that I’m supporting exactly the kind of passion projects that I wish I could see happen everywhere else. I’ve always documentaries on my favorite topic, and I love video game postmortems, so this combines all of it into something delightful! 2) What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, Indies, podcast) - Documentaries by far on just about anything. I just love the in-depth interviews and the feeling of being there as developers reflect on their experiences. Retrospectives are glorious. 3) In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? - No ways at all. I often have trouble keeping up with everything, and I feel like there’s a large community aspect of Noclip’s Patreon that I am missing out on (I don’t really partake in Discord or anything, I just pay money and view content), but that’s more of a fault of my own. FOMO is real, though. I feel like I could and should be building a relationship with the community more than I am. 4) Is there anything you wish we’d do that would make you feel more satisfied? - Nope! Keep up the amazing, amazing work!

Cameron Ladd

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? + It just feels good to contribute to something I enjoy and believe in! - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) + The series on ‘Hades’, as an ongoing sort of serial documentary is a really interesting format that I’m excited to see more of. The more produced and glossy version of the podcast would be nice to see more of. I actually enjoy the flip between a casual episode (interview, “what are ya playing”) and a more audio documentary style. More indies for sure! - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? + Nothing that comes to mind :-) - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? + Keep it up!

Dorian Young

1) What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? I would say that behind the scenes stuff / vlogs is the best part for me. I love to hear about your production, and I enjoy watching the patron show so much! (sometimes even more than the documentaries, but I'm just weird like that). And the early access to the docs made me up my pledge to have that reward as well. 2) What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) AAA games that went through hell but pushed through (FFXIV was the one that made me became a patron, personally). So I would love to hear stories about The Division and games like that, that just kept pushing to become something way better than it was originally. Maybe with Bungie's independence - a Destiny story would be nice as well. 3) In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? Not really. I love the content and the transparency. I'm not that interested in Bonus Level and things like that, but it's just extra content so it doesnt take away from my enjoyment. 4) Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? More BTS and Vlogs would make me more satisfied for sure! Maybe I should sub for editing streams, idk. Anyways, keep on doing what you do, because you're doing is great!

orels1

I'm satisfied. I liked everything you guys do. Just wanted to say I'm happy with you guys and keep it up!

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? Getting the things early is nice. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) The documentaries, i like most content but those are the bread and butter so thats what i want to see more of. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? Not really, sometimes i dont want to see the extended interview but those are bonuses so it's fine. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? It would be cool if u did more of like the half-life or "finding the mystery" documentaries and maybe not always big one story documentaries.

Shotgun Anaconda

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? I like the Patreon Q &amp; A videos a lot - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) I love it when you get in with a big studio and talk in-depth about the development of games I love. It's best in a video format. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating?/Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? For me, it's just a matter of subject matter. I think your documentaries are cool as hell, but there's a big focus on western devs, some coverage of fandom and indie devs, and largely games from the last few years. My favorite games are mostly japanese(nintendo games, cave story, Persona, vanillaware, souls games, jrpgs, metal gear, platinum games, street fighter, phoenix wright etc). Many of them are older than the current console gen. Few are indie titles. The fandom is a part of those games impact on culture, for sure, but what I wanna hear about is stories from the devs that _actually made them_. So that's what I'd want more of. JP games, classic titles, dev interviews. It's kinda fun for a one-off to talk with fans of gta online or indie devs or a hot new game, but that's not what I'm super interested in watching long docs about. I'd rather know how the Wario people went from platformers to warioware. What it was like for Platinum starting up out of capcom. Pokemon's history. How Nier Automata even got made. How Nintendo went about making 3d games for the first time on 64. A zelda retrospective. Shu Takumi's work at ace attorney and ghost trick. How Tsukihime propelled small indie devs from VN makers to a massive company that puts out new Fate stuff every year. It's much more interesting(to me) to get that stuff than it is to hear about Horizon or Warframe or Fallout, or about fans of those games making fangames or establishing streaming venues. I like it when a doc breaks down the veil between devs and fans. There's zero veil to break down between fans and fans. Keep up the good work, I'm totally satisfied with the quality of the videos you put out, just frustrated a bit by the subject matter. I appreciate that in-depth studio docs with people who don't speak english is probably like one of the hardest things to do, but that's what I'm passionate about

Blooper

Keep up the good work, you're nailing it! If the money this platform provides is enough to make this worth it then don't be hard on yourself. I personally would appreciate some docs/interview with some of the early people in the industry who have retired to get their view on the past, the present and future before we lose them. I recognise they may not care to share these stories, that tracking down veterans is probably harder than emailing established contacts and the cost might be high to travel to their far and wide retirement spots though!

Simon Johnson

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? The fact that you can keep making stuff that I find interesting. I love that there's a direct way to help fund what you do that. I have no interest in the actual patron stuff. The rewards and such I mean. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) I don't listen to the podcasts, but other than that, big, small, I do not have a preference. I mean, I guess I lean more towards technical talk than anecdotes. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? No. Not yet :) - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? Well... since you're asking. Every good TV show needs a musical episode. I want a dev interview done entirely through the medium of song. That is a joke of course... unless you want to? More serious note: There are quite a few youtubers that does game analyses or deconstruction. I would be very interested in hearing about their process. How they research. How they plan and play. Are games even games to them anymore?

1) The enjoyment I get from being a patron is largely intrinsic, knowing I'm helping keep Noclip afloat and producing great content. 2) I enjoy both the big multi-part AAA docs and the indies. High points have been the Warframe and Final Fantasy docs as they were both games with fascinating histories that I'd known about but never played, and the Dream Daddy doc was excellent. Least favourite have been the Team Spooky, GTA Clan, and a few of the shorter interviews, though I don't know if I'd like them to go away, it's more that the subject matter just didn't speak to me particularly. 3) Any frustrations I have are pretty minimal, to the point where I can't think of any off the top of my head. 4) I know part of your mission is to reduce the barrier between gamers and game developers, and with that in mind I'd love an ongoing series of docs that focussed on specific roles within game dev, with maybe two or three people from different studios talking about that role, skills, tools, etc. Not tutorialised, but more in depth than the previous docs have dived into. Other notes: I like the new direction of the podcast. I don't care that much about reward tiers, though obviously hope people at higher reward tiers are satisfied. I want to know how best I can help as a backer to spread the word and grow the pool of backers. Keep experimenting to keep things fresh for both yourself and us. :)

Steve Dennis

I'll be pledging to you for years to come, Danny. Because of the many great docs you and your team have made in the past two years, ye could take a 2-year hiatus and I'd still pledge every month. Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? If you think it is interesting, go for it. I'm sure I'll find it interesting too.

Adam McDermott

It's tough for me to answer these questions since I have no complaints and I don't think I'm a regular patron of yours. I think the last thing I watched was your GTA documentary about the group that would all get together to hang out. I've also listened to a couple of your podcasts. I've loved everything you have done, I'm just busy and find it hard to spare time. But I believe in what you're doing and want to support it knowing that if I find time one day, I have a lot of content to watch. As long as you keep making things I believe in, you'll always have my support.

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? The fact that I'm supporting Noclips high-quality independent journalism which the games industry has needed for years. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) Hard to pick a favourite as I try to consume all of it. I didn't think I'd enjoy the one about Dream Daddy as it was about a game I wasn't interested in and wasn't hosted by Danny, but I really did, because Alanah and co kept to the previously high standards of production. The result being that if Noclip decided to do a doc about the inside of a golf ball, I'd at least give it a go, because I trust that I'd be informed in an entertaining way. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? Make more content? Why isn't there a HL type doc everyday? That's the only way to answer that question because I don't think you're doing a bad job and nothing about it frustrates me. Even if you had a massive crew and billions of quids it still takes time to produce quality. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? Keep up the good work. Don't burn out. I'm at the fiver level at the moment because of my own situation but as that improves I will be scaling up my contribution because I really believe that you're providing a valuable service to the community at large. Possibly finding a better way of gathering feedback as editing this in a tiny unstretchable box is slightly unsatisfying :)

I really like documentaries of games that are still in development, but that might just be the novelty of it. However, one thing I noticed specifically in the Hades documentary is that the pacing feels a bit slower. Not sure why exactly that is, or if it's just imagined on my part. Whatever the reason, I prefer faster-paced and more concise videos.

Satisfied. 1. Honestly? I don't use any of my Patreon benefits. I support you because of what you do. I'm not in this for the benefits - I'm in it for you. 2. Sits somewhere between the AAA docs and the indie docs. I know they're harder and more expensive, but I'd love to see more "full-depth" dives into AAA production if possible. I want to see what went wrong AND what companies did to fix it - it lends a real human light to corporations that we often miss in this day and age. 3. I would love for content to be more frequent if possible. However, with the new weekly podcast, I feel like you addressed this comment before you asked. Lets me get my Noclip fix while also letting you maintain the quality we know you for. 4. I guess a repeat of (2), really. You have the ability to provide unique insight into the human side of game development, and I think a critical part of that is how/why things go wrong and how to fix it. I know this is hard, because it's something people don't want to share, but if you could find a way to share that side of things, I'd love to see it.

I put down "somewhat satisfied" because I'm at least six months behind on Noclip content but I feel the work you're putting in is extremely important for the gaming landscape. My appetite for documentary-style content has fallen off quite a bit at the moment, but I'd still like for it to be there for folks to watch. The questions: - What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? // Funding the documentaries, as stated above. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) // Definitely the AAA studio documentaries. Those companies aren't going to just open up if left alone, so in my eyes those seem like the most valuable docs. (Not to say the others aren't! Worth IMO is developer accessibility vs. interesting stories to tell. Indies may have interesting stories to tell but they're generally more open from what I've seen.) - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? // Not that I can think of? The lack of interest is completely on my end, and I'll go back and catch up on releases at some point. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? // The above answer also answers this. I wish this could be more immediately helpful, but I can't give a good faith response given my lack of recency on the latest releases.

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? Chatting on Discord - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) Noclip Sessions and basically just chatting with devs. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? There were only 2 BTS videos in the 2018 calendar year. Granted there was a child born for Danny and the production classes, but perhaps rename the $5 tier? - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? I love all of the work, but please see above. I understand the early access to podcasts stands for a value, and the patron show is mainly the reason i'm on the $5+ tier, but the BTS aspect is saddening.

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? The fact that I get to fund some of the best documentaries made about video games, period. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) I love all of it, but if I had to pick one thing, it'd be the interviews with the individuals who helped make the games when we get a story, a tidbit about something that happened while making the game. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? I don't say this lightly, but are you feeling ok? A bad job? NoClip does not do bad. At least not in my experience. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? Honestly, no. I enjoy the content, I'd be rather greedy asking for more, As it is you make great content, and like anything brilliant, sometimes it takes time. And it's worth it every single time. Always worth the wait.

Robb Twomey Dunphy

I'm happy and satisfied. I fully trust you as a creative genius, whatever you produce, whatever direction you're going. Just supporting that is enough satisfaction for me. Keep up the good work, Danny.

1. The bonus extended interviews with devs are my favorite perk. I'm also looking forward to more episodes of the extra footage from Hades. 2. Indies (but only slightly) 3. You often talk about the previous years being foundations for big stuff in the future. I don't think this is how you mean it, but it kind of feels like you're apologizing for underdelivering, which you haven't yet. From a marketing perspective, it might be better to wait until you can give more concrete details about projects to talk about them. 4. I'm hoping Project Hades goes well, because I'd love to see more projects like that chronicling how design decisions are discussed and made. Thanks for you're work so far, and looking forward to 2019!

1) I love that I have been helping you create one of the best docs about video games out there. 2) I love all video content, not so big fan of podcast (as I feel it is a distraction from docs) although last podcast #4 was so much fun. 3) I am pretty satisfied. 4) I would love more personal stories of game developers.

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? Funding excellent docs - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) Enjoy all of them. The first Hades episode was especially good. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? Would always enjoy more content - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? No

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? I'm a big fan of Danny and of Gamespot's ancient "behind the game" series. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) AAA - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? I just wish there was more (which is unrealistic, but that that's what wishes are for) - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? Not that I can think of. Just keep up the good work.

1) Love the bonus videos, but also just love supporting you 2) I love the bigger story based docs, like DOOM and FF14 3) As an Elder Scrolls fan, the way that the Blades doc keeps getting pushed back (so far from the Fallout doc), has kind of felt like an over promise at this point. I think it’s a good idea to not underestimate your supporters desires for smaller/less popular docs. 4) Would love to see more topical game industry things that deal with a genre or multiple games. You kill it at the single focus docs &lt;3

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? Giving money to an awesome project. - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) I really like the podcast. It's nice to have something to listen while waiting for the big project. - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? Nothing so far. - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied? MOAR CONTENT. More seriously, I'd love to know the process behind some of the video : what source didi you use, how much time you put into it, and so on. Maybe doing something about the gaming press, I feel this is a part of the industry that deserve to be on the spotlight more often.

- I don actually enjoy anything about being a patron. I just want to give you guys money to make great content but don't see anything about patreon that gives me an additional benefit. Would also support on yt, twitch, wherever. - I like the big AAA docs and podcasts the most. (Podcasts because I travel a lot). - i like the huge effort you put even into podcasts, but I think a little bit more casual conversation would be more to my liking. I'd like something that gives insight I to your production, kind of outtakes or anecdotes you could share via a podcast.

1. Getting notified about a new video is really enjoyable. I like reading the preface before watching. It's like the bonus bonus content. Much better than a video just showing up on my feed. 2. I really enjoy all of the content. But if I had to pick it would be any of the longer serialized content. I feel like it's the most unique. 3. Nothing is frustrating 4.More content of course, I still miss the EFMS style work mostly because it would introduce me to ideas or games I wasn't familiar with or had forgotten about. A lot of the content in the past year has focused on current games.

What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? Being able to support content I love and want more of - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) Deep dives into smaller indie stuff. The witness stuff the frog fractions. Mystery stuff is my favourite type - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? I'd rather have more smaller stuff than the longer ones on big studios that take so much work to create. Though the half life stuff was incredible. Everything has been great. I'm just inpatient 😂 - Is there anything you wish we'd do that would make you feel more satisfied Can't think of anything

Dan Longman

1. Love both Indie and AAA videos, but what I love most is going behind the scenes and learning the choices the company makes. You are already doing all of this. Also what you are doing with Hades is BRILLIANT! I think it will do the gaming community a big bonus to see what goes into the video game process. 2. You havent done this yet but I love you in-depth interviews and quality. As much as I would love to see more from you, just take your time and produce quality over quantity. 3. Perhaps do some more indie games? Or maybe more "artsy" games like Journey, Flower, Gris? These are very influential but in ways that more main stream games aren't. It would be interesting seeing that side of videogames.

Matt I

1) That I am supporting you doing what you do. I don't care very much about the patreon rewards, only that I get to give you money so you keep making content. 2) Anything long-form with developer interview. I'm a game dev myself and it's really important, the work that you do, to help the general gaming population see the devs as real people. 3) NOTHING, keep doing you 4) No pressure, but just MORE content. I'd love to see more videos from you, but I know they take a lot of time. Lots of love from a Seattle game dev, keep doing awesome, Danny!

- What do you enjoy the most about being a Patron? Knowing that it is producing ad free content - What is your favorite type of Noclip content? (AAA studios, indies, podcast) AAA content that has had enough time to at least have it's final release - In what ways are we doing a bad job? Is there anything we do that is frustrating? I disliked the final fantasy doc. I thought it would have been better as a voice-over. I was also delighted to see how many of your docs have had bilingual voice-overs made of them

Graham Robinson

Favorite thing about being a patron? -Mostly the behind the scenes info and the opportunity for input such as this. Favorite type of content? -Big, high budget, AAA docs. Personal favorites are the Witcher doc, DOOM doc, and History of Bethesda doc.

10 dollar Patreon here. I put "somewhat" satisfied for a couple reasons. I love your docs, especially the "big" ones like your Witcher series and your most recent Half Life doc. I would, however, like more "Behind the scenes" content in the style of your Tokyo FF series. There hasn't been any behind-the-scenes stuff in a long while and that's some of my favorite stuff.

Baron Von Susscabus

Hi Danny! I am new here, but I hope my pledge will help you guys to do styy you are doing. I watched some documentaries and really liked them. Useful insights and stories that will help me in my own projects. I wanted to ask to include more indies in the future. Big companies are great, nothing wrong with them. But as I am an indie developer I'd like to see how other indies make it to the top. Fox example how you did with Supegiant games. Mb you can reach other idies too? Thanks!

Anton Velmozhniy

1) Having an idea about what Docs to expect coming in the future. 2) AAA Studios, specifically the Doom and Horizon Docs. I also really enjoyed the GDC Sessions and am looking forward to the next round. 3) Nothing comes to mind. 4) Content between major Doc. Though I expect the podcast and next round of GDC Sessions to fill this for me.

I enjoy the indie content more, I don't play many AAA games. I do find both interesting, though. My appetite for your content has slowed down recently, but I don't think that has anything to do with noclip specifically - I'm just finding myself with less time to watch documentaries, even mini ones. For now I'm still a 'somewhat satisfied' Patron, and I think I'll continue chipping in my little bit to show my support. One day I'll be back into gaming docs in a big way and I'll be glad noclip is around.

I love the indie stuff most. Because it's inherently a tighter team, I feel like you can get to know the details of the game and the people (all of them basically) who've worked on a project. The AAA stuff is also fascinating, but even then, I think I enjoy the wild stories like FFXIV's development was.

Logan Johnson

I love the work you're doing! I enjoy all the different things you do, but it's probably the dives into older titles or weirder projects (like the failure of original FF14) that I've enjoyed most. Still love the content you're making around current studios, too, but seeing interviews with long-time industry veterans who created some of the original building blocks of the medium is something I'd love to see more of (especially as some of those creators get older).

Kenneth Allsop

Most of all I love to see documentaries about AAA titles and less about Indie

Serhiy Todosan

I loved the Warframe Docs a lot, it shows how difficult game development is and how amazing people who make games are

I support you guys because I really believe in what you're making and I want it to continue, but the only bonus I really use from my $10 tier is the early access, and I don't even really need that.

James Smith

NoClip has been the patreon I've most engaged with and felt the most rewarded by! I love the work NoClip does a heckin lot

Ethan Thibault

Noclip is like McDonalds to me - I’m lovin’ it!
