Hey Patrons!
So it's been a pretty "quiet" month. I use the commas because it's not been quiet on this end but we're not in a position to share what we've been working on quite yet. The reality is this is going to continue for most of next month too. Once you see what we've been editing it will all make sense but in the meantime I want to let you in on an exciting project we'll be launching in the coming weeks.
So, we've been running "Noclip Pirate Radio" feed since 2016 which is essentially an MP3 dump of our extended interviews. There are only a few thousand people using that feed but we're going to keep that going with rough cuts from the interviews. However I knew there was a thirst for more. Mostly, because you kept telling me you'd love some sort of Noclip podcast.
In my heart of hearts I'd love to be able to do an ensemble podcast like so many other websites do (Giant Bomb / Kinda Funny). I love podcasts! I listen to a dozen of them a week! The first media job I ever had was in radio where I worked part-time for 5 years. But the reality is that even with Esteban working a few days a week we don't have a big group of folks working at Noclip to talk about the games of the day. Also, I'm just too busy to play all these games all the time. Right now I'm either playing a handful of games for research or taking breaks from production to play PUBG. I can't talk about the former, and we're not staring a PUBG podcast! And the other thing is that, there are plenty of those podcasts. I don't want to start any production under the Noclip Banner unless it's something of a high quality that people really enjoy, and something I'm passionate to produce. We started Noclip to make a new type of video production, and my desire was to do the same when it came to podcasts.
So after a year of brainstorming, I'm delighted to finally let you all in on our new project; Noclip (the podcast).
Our new podcast is simply going to be called "Noclip". It will live on iTunes and wherever else podcast are sold. Each episode will focus on a different person, game or topic. It's not just two people having a conversation - each episode is a highly produced, curated piece which will tell a story. They'll feature interviews, voice-over from myself, music tracks, environmental audio and more. We will tell stories that are as intriguing as the one we cover in our video series. I'm basing the podcast off of some of my favorites throughout the years. The Gimlet series's StartUp & Reply All and my absolute favorite video game podcast of all time A Life Well Wasted.
We've already started recording. This week I talked with Sergey Galyonkin, the creator of Steam Spy, about growing up in Ukraine, fleeing to Malta during the war, creating Steam Spy and how Valve's recent actions almost shut it down. I have interviews set up with classic game developers, media personalities and I'm even planning to record a podcast while getting lunch with a studio lead in the coming weeks. All thoughtfully edited to tell a unique story each and every week. Expect the first episode in May.
$5 PATRONS! You will be getting this podcast EARLY as part of your pledge tier. Hopefully this will encourage more people to support our work (we've had a bit of a dip of late) and create added value for those of you who have been supporting us so well.
We'll go public with this a bit closer to the launch of the first episode but now that we've actually began work I wanted to let you all know.
Let me know what you think, and let us know what type of stories you'd like to hear on Noclip.
As ever, thank you so much for your incredible support.
Enjoy your weekends!
Danny
