Call for Q&A Questions! (April)

Comments

Saw you put out a call for developers to chat in a podcast format. How was the response so far?

Kevin O'Neil

Hey Danny! Long time fan. First hooked me on your work and style with The Point episode about Destiny all those years ago. Loved your Warframe documentary, however, I was left bothered by the closing credits - particularly, that Digital Extremes had sold majority shares to Chinese companies. This seems like a massive change in the company's structure and mandate. Is there a reason this topic wasn't explored in the documentary? Did it not vibe with the story you were trying to tell? Thanks! And I love your work. Enjoy the spring.

Hey Danny! So glad you're feeling more yourself again (if that's right to say?). Was wondering if you guys were planning on sticking your fingers into any pre-launch documentary pies? I feel like you've already addressed this before, but thought I'd ask again anyway. Also, waht upcoming games are you looking forward to and why? Keep doing you, and keep making awesome docs. Peace.

Hey Danny, so I’ve finally decided to become a Patreon..no idea what’s taken me so long if I’m honest! I think your newest project hit home a little so had to get on board. Being in my early 40s I’ve always been a gamer from my very first Atari 2600! Over the past few years I’ve been dealing with the deterioration that MS is giving me & I do wonder what will happen when/if I’ll have to stop picking up that controller! I’m looking fwd to hearing what other people have to say and how they’ve dealt with such problems. Happy to be onboard&supporting noclip now and it’s future projects :)

Thinking about it I guess Bonus Level would actually be the best place for this!

Hey Danny, I was wondering if you ever thought about doing a doc/retrospective on a particular piece of hardware, for example the Commodore 64/Amiga? Retro gaming is having a bit of a renaissance at the moment so might be fun to look at what made these revolutionary at the time, not to mention the number of franchises launched which still exist today in rebooted/remastered form (Monkey Island!). Hope you're feeling better, keep up the fantastic work.

Danny, I bet you’re getting a lot of feedback on Noclip’s work. What was the funniest and what was the most surprising comments you’ve received?

Hey Danny, Hope you are doing well, Thanks so much for everything dude! I bet it was awesome to hang out with Steven! Any new merch coming?

Dan Longman

Hey Danny, I am wondering what the reaction from the various studios you have worked with is like after you publish a documentary. Have you remained in contact with any of them post-interview?

Ryan Blushke

There are so many good games out of late. Wondering if working in the industry do you feel under pressure to play them all, or are you happy to experience what you can and / or what you think will be up your alley? I spent a year struggling to finish all of the previous years GOTY candidates and top 10 contenders and while it seemed like a good idea to open myself up to new experiences it took a lot of fun out of playing. Lately I’ve been jumping between titles, trying to focus more on enjoyment rather than completion... Going back to my youth on and Amiga 500 with 100’s of floppies, little skill and a short attention span 😄

Hey Danny Don’t worry Spring is coming, (I’m originally from Ireland) I live in upstate New York now, so I know what you are going through, it’s snowing as I type this 😊. Have you every thought of doing a Doc on crowd funded games? I have been a backer of Star Citizen since 2013 and love following the development of the games, but I would love you get your insight into this game and this type of game development and the challenges that come with it. Thanks

Hey Danny! Hope you're feeling better lately and appreciate your honestly with everything. I was wondering how you plan out thinks like bonus level (And when we'd maybe see another) Is it more of when you have some down time in between docs or editing that you feel like just shifting for a bit, or is it something you have scheduled in for yourself at certain times? Keep up the awesome work dude!

How much more a month do I need to pay to get me some Danswers?

Tom Southcott

Hey Danny hope you and the noclip crew are all doing well. My question is what is the most daunting part of what you do? Go n-éirí an bóthar leat mo chairde

Tony Colton

Hey Danny. Hope you're feeling better. You've done some great documentaries on some successful games. What's your thoughts on doing documentaries about games that ultimately failed, but had a cult following?

While your love of games comes through very clearly, say you suddenly had a month that you didn't need to worry about earning, or making anything, just a month to chill and play whatever game you want. What game do you play? Also your blog post recently, that took heart, and guts. We're certainly hoping that you continue to deal with depression in whatever way works well for you. As someone with depression diagnosed almost 21 years ago, I can certainly empathise, and there are days it is much harder than others.

Robb Twomey Dunphy

Hey Danny! I hope you're doing well. In light of you're recent blog post, while I was sad to hear you haven't had a good go of things in the last few months, I'm happy to hear you're better! So I wanted to know: Is being more open about what you're dealing with, from a surface level of course, something you'll continue to do? I ask only because you have a wonderful support structure, and I'm sure if you need a little pick-me-up, many, myself included, would be more than happy to provide a little boost to your day. Regardless, while I always look forward to what you have coming next, I hope you find a healthy balance first and foremost. Have a wonderful day and keep smiling at that sunshine (when it decides to show up)!

Have you ever thought about doing a doc on hardware? It seems like the story behind the mistakes made initially this generation by Xbox and how it mirrored Sony's inflated ego the generation before could be interesting. Or perhaps how the updated PS4 Pro and Xbox One X came to be.

Ive just started playing Persona 5 this week so im wondering, has the Final Fantasy docs made it easier to get into talk with other Japanese developers like you hoped it might?
