Q&A! March Patron Show Call for Questions!

Hey folks!

I hope this message finds you well. First off if you missed our first episode of Bonus Level be sure to check it out here. It was great to finally get the first one out. I'm content enough with how it turned out but even more excited about how we can use that show to explore some interesting Noclip topics in the future. We've got big plans for that one.

Speaking of big plans we're currently aiming our Warframe doc release for 2 weeks from now (Monday, March 19th) and will be filming loads more stuff over the course of the month which you'll hear about real soon.

Anyway - the point of this post. We'll be recording this month's Patron Show this week so if you have any questions please feel free to reply to this post and we'll aim to cover as many of them as possible.

Talk soon!

Danny

Q&A! March Patron Show Call for Questions!

Comments

Good Day, Danny. I had a question about how you go about integrating music in your docs. How do you select the music you want and what are the different challenges in editing them as opposed to the video? And do you ever worry about the music conveying an emotional response as opposed to the story being told by those being interviewed? I hope that makes sense. Ha ha! Keep up the great work, bud. All the best.

Hey Danny, I love what you're doing with Noclip and I really enjoyed the first bonus level episode, I think it's a great reincarnation of the point. -- My Question: What's your take on the Mass Effect/KOTOR series? Did you play any of the games and where you sad to see the series end with the rather underwhelming Mass Effect Andromeda produced by Bioware’s B team, Bioware Montreal? I for one think there’s a story there, would love to see a Noclip special on Bioware!

HI Danny, great work on Noclip, keep it up. How do you feel about other 'document-style' channels that seem to be very popular at the moment. Some of them get view counts per video that are higher than yours though don't put in as much research and production value into them? I see a lot titles like 'The TRUTH about...' or 'X didn't die it was MURDERED' wonder if you ever feel tempted to start putting more shouty titles on your videos to attract more views? Just to add, those channels also have Patreon pages set up so I feel the comparison to Noclip is justified to some degree. Thanks and keep it up.

hi danny, i was wondering if there was any news on the state of shift-f1? with the new season only weeks away it would be great to see you and drew back in the driving seat but fully understand if you guys are to busy to be able to do it. looking forward to the warframe doc and i really enjoyed bonus level, can't wait for the next one.

Hey Danny! I was wondering if there was a desire to go back to Square Enix and get the story of Final Fantasy XV? With it's ten-year development, transition from Versus XIII, Tetsuya Nomura being kicked off the project, and overall changes to the formula make it a great candidate for NoClip. After playing the game, it just feels like so much was cut just to get a product out that, personally, I'm dying to figure out what the game as a whole was meant to be and what the developers first envisioned. Thanks and keep up the great work!

Hi Danny. Just a silly question today. What will come first? PUBG's 3rd map, or the inevitable announcement of Star Wars Battlefront 3?

Alex Castellanos

Hey mate, What game mechanics and features do you hope to see more or believe are underused In games? e.g Shadow Of Mordor's Nemesis System, Kingdom Come Deliverance's blade honing mechanic, etc.

Charles Guillot

Do you have any plans on expanding your merch offering? More shirt designs, maybe pint glasses or something?

Tory Thompson

How do you split time between games you want to play compared to games you need to play for work? (Warframe/Final Fantasy 14, etc). Do you dedicate workday hours as research? How do you balance enjoying games and preparing for projects when your biggest passion is also your work? Always interested to hear how gaming journalists avoid burnout. Thanks!

Unless there has already been one done I'm sure someone can tell me, but are there any plans do do any docs on the voice acting/actors behind games, and the work that goes into them?

Hey! I want to get into editing but not quite sure where to start. I have done some minor things so am familiar with the basics However, I am not sure where to look for training or what programs work best. Love everything you do and would love some insight! Thanks!!! Ps. I am also in the MD area and am glad to hear the crazy storm didn’t treat you to bad. :)

A common sentiment I've learned from many creatives is that at a certain point their project will never actually be perfect enough for them and they have to make the tough decision to finish working on it and release it. You hear this a lot with game devs who say that if they didn't have a "hard" release date they could see themselves endlessly tweaking their game. Do you feel this way with any/all of your docs? Are there any creative regrets you have in the 1.5 years since starting NoClip? Love the work as always, cheers!

PS - between Bloodborne’s unintended long ‘tail’ maintained by players and Bungie’s very public, very costly efforts to keep Destiny busy, is there a “work smarter, not harder” path that is starting to emerge?

Hi Danny! With a look at a long running live game like Warframe at the fore of your mind, what do you make of the Bloodborne community’s grassroots “Return to Yharnum” action to repopulate neglected areas?

Hey Danny! This past week at time of writing you lost power because of a storm and it got me to wondering: What contingency plans are in place not only if the weather decides to make you take an unexpected day off but other unexpected and unforeseen things happen? Do you have a portable generator to keep the laptop charged and what do you do if your internet is down? Looking forward to the Warframe doc and have a fantastic day!

Hey Danny. Great show. Will you ever do documentaries on 'failed' games? eg. Games that never made it, were shut down, etc. I feel this is a perfect way to make them timeless, especially for games that had a cult following but for commercial reasons had to go.

After your trip to London, what was your favourite experience and worst experience being in Canada?
