Patreon is NOT Rolling Out Fees

Hey Patrons,

I'm hard at work on our Horizon Zero Dawn documentary which will be going live next week (see timeline above!) but I just wanted to keep you updated on the latest update from Patreon.

As you know last week I posted an update about the new fees, how it would affect all of you, and what Noclip was going to do be doing to counteract them. I also decided to push back our Patron Show to this week to give time for the whole thing to develop. It's been a strange week. We lost around 150 Patrons though many of you have upped your pledges to try and mitigate  the damage. I can't thank you enough for your generosity and kindness. In the background I've been monitoring the situation and keeping in contact with the folks at Patreon to see how it would all shake out. And today I'm delighted to pass on the word that they've decided to drop the proposed fee structure.

If you wan to read more about it, please go to the following link:

Expect our Patron Show later this week with some exciting news about our 2018 plans. Our doc on Horizon Zero Dawn will be here within a week too.

Talk soon friends,

Danny

awesome

Really excited for the horizon doco. I've stopped playing games due to time constraints, but I'm still fascinated by the industry. Thanks for all the hard work Danny!

Mike

Have you considered seeing if Kickstarters DRIP service is a viable alternative to Patreon? The fact they're a PBC makes me really optimistic versus Patreon which is trying to get bought by a VC. By the way, I'm super excited for the Horizon doc next week! I'm working on finishing the game now.

For some people, it increased their pledge by almost 40%. Totally understandable why they'd unsub.

HylianSidekick

People really unsubbed due to these changes? Strange folks.

Ivan Mikulic

I buy Danny a Whopper meal deal every month and the change would have been a Whopper meal deal with cheese. I don't understand why people got so angry, but whats done is done i guess. Keep up the good work Danny

haha - yea I know the feeling

Hey Fred, yeah diversifying our income was a big focus on the end of this year but I'll certainly be looking into other ways of organizing our payments and how to release bonus content to people.

My strategy of doing nothing out of laziness payed off

thanks for the update Danny. I'm still baffled by this whole situation, how didn't anyone involved in this process at Patreon see this coming? How out of touch are they? Anyway, I upped my pledge to $10, hopefully that will make up for some of the damage these bozos caused. Looking forward to noclip 2018, you have done so much more than I expected with this and I hope you'll be able to continue to do so for many years to come. Also please secure secondary funding or an alternative for people to support you, I think it's safe to say Patreon can't be trusted anymore (and probably we shouldn't have in the first place).

This debacle would seem to make obvious the problems with basing your business on the good graces of a third party service. I'm no business manager and certainly no lawyer, but if it were me, I'd be thinking about what to do when Patreon inevitably does something incredibly stupid. I would hope Danny has at least a general idea of how Noclip can move forward without a service that really just functions as a landing site and a payment processor.

Hey, thanks for keeping us informed Danny, im not sure I would have seen this news otherwise

Harribo

Thanks for the update Danny!

Alex Van Aken

I know one will. Thanks for pushing on this Danny. I knew if I didn't vote with my financial support nothing would change.

Let's hope that the people who left will return!
