Hello friends,
We've been hard at work coloring & editing over 1.5 terabytes of Witcher related footage we filmed in Warsaw earlier this month. So I wanted to give you all an update as to how this project is going to shake-out in terms of content and release timing.
First things first, we filmed a lot. So we're going to have a lot of video no matter what happens. However you may have noticed that our docs have gotten longer and longer over the past year. We've spent more to stay longer on shoots and thus we've always returned with more footage. That means that the FF XIV docs were almost 2 hours long with a single episode almost reaching an hour. As opposed to the Rocket League series which we filmed in 1 day and came in under 50 minutes (25 mins each).
I like the idea of mixing up our release format to suit each project. So for The Witcher I've decided that we're going to release a series of videos, each episode aiming for around that 30 minutes mark. The series will start with the story of CD Projekt, then drift into some fun nostalgia pieces around the first two Witcher games.
The second half of the series will focus almost exclusively on the design of The Witcher 3 with deep insights into the design of the world, quests, story, localisation, music, Gwent and much more. The Adobe Premiere screenshot above should give you an idea of how this all breaks down. But first of all...
Witcher PAX West Panel
Before we release the series we have a live event to attend to. A few months ago CD Projekt asked if I'd be interested in hosting an interview panel at PAX West. I thought it would be a good fit as I've been wanting to steer Noclip towards doing these sorts of live interviews at events. I also thought it would be a fun opportunity to show off some of the interviews we filmed in Warsaw, so essentially I'm now helping them to produce the panel. So if you're attending PAX West and want to watch myself and a bunch of Polish developers chat about the 10 Year Anniversary of The Witcher, make sure you come along.
Series Schedule
Once that event is done we'll be diving back into the editing of these Witcher videos. I don't have any firm dates yet but the idea is to release a number of videos each week for a number of weeks in mid/late September and into October.
We shot a bunch of bonus footage while filming in Warsaw so Patrons can expect an exclusive Making of / Warsaw Travelogue and early access to docs and around Half a Dozen Extended Cut Interviews.
As you patrons know we also shot a GTA Online documentary in Tennessee the week before we went to Warsaw, and we filmed an absolutely fascinating GOG doc on our final day in Poland. Expect those in the coming months along with more Noclip Sessions, Danny's Disk Club and a Quake 3 feature we've been sitting on for like...a year.
Save to Date - Noclip's 1st Birthday!
Speaking of big anniversaries, Noclip will turn one year old on September 12th and I've been putting a lot of effort into thinking up cool stuff we can do to celebrate. I don't want to spill the beans too early but we'll have some fun new site features coming that week, along with a birthday livestream, an awareness drive and some exciting announcements.
That's all for now. If you have any questions, please put them in the comments below. Once again, thank you so much for your patronage. This project was by far our most expensive to date, and as Patreon is our only way of funding this work every dollar makes a massive difference to us. Thanks for sticking with us and helping us preserve these stories.
Okay, back to editing!
Danny
