About that Mystery Project...

Hey folks,

As you are more than likely aware of, myself and Jeremy are heading off to Poland next week so film a bunch of stuff to celebrate The Witcher series turning ten years old. Woohoo! Geralt! But we're actually leaving California today to film another project on the way.

Back when I started Noclip last year I said we wanted to tell stories about the people who play and make video games. I feel like we've done a pretty good job on the make side of things, so before the year is out we want to film something about players.

So before we arrive in Poland we're stopping off in Knoxville, Tennessee to hang out with a particularly interesting group of players.  A collective of thieves, racers, gunrunners and murderers who spend their downtime terrorizing the streets of Los Santos.

Almost four years after its initial release, Grand Theft Auto: Online has grown to become one of the most popular online games on three separate platforms. And as someone who has enjoyed periodically popping my head into the game over the years, I've always wondered what it is about GTA:O that has kept so many people engrossed.

The folks we're dropping in on this weekend have been there from the beginning and rank in the top 0.5% of crews the game. But for them GTA:O is about much more than rankings. Every year the members of Hillbilly Agenda take time away from jobs to get together for a weekend of pool-parties, BBQs and boat-rides. Some drive, some fly in from out of state. Many come solo, others bring their entire families.

So what happens when a collective of thieves, racers, gunrunners and murderers get together for a weekend? Well, this year Noclip has been invited to join them. So I guess we're about to find out ;)

Wish us luck!

Danny

Very interesting, those GTA clans are fascinating.

Cool. What a great idea.

Sooooo... I live in Knoxville. You thinking about a meet and greet at all?

This sounds really cool!

Pete Asick

Haha, that's sounds like it could be an awesome doc!

Bavo Debraekeleer

This is so cool! Reminds me of the GFW Radio days where Shawn Elliot would regale the others with his tales of mischief in the unofficial online mods for previous GTA games.

Jordan Cohen

I don't even play GTA but I'm looking forward to this. Another reason why I follow this channel, your topics are interesting. Keep up the great work.

CILVNTRO

Ok ok! I actually never heard of these guys but the idea of having a mini profile on community of gamers sounds like the right direction Looking forward to it!

Tohir Tillyaev

While you're in Knoxville do yourself a favor and go to Nick & J's for some chicken salad. Any plans for a meet-up ? I'm only a few hours from there.

Andrew T. Wilson

Yes! This sounds awesome. I had the same question every time I see an update for GTAO. I think "Who still plays this game?! And why?!". Glad to see I'll finally get an answer. I'll also get to learn what people do for fun in Tennessee, so win-win. P.S. That's me riding shotgun on this wild NoClip ride

Love this idea Danny, don't get me wrong its great to see how games are developed and the trials and tribulations they go through but getting the view of the gamers, the addicts, the Video game nerds is key, as without the gamers there would be no games. I watched a doc on Netflix recently about the Video Gamer Pros, it was ok but I am sure it can be done a lot better, maybe following a team of a year at certain points during big pro events, how they spend time when away from those events, what is an average day for a pro gamer.... Just a suggestion. Enjoy Poland, any time you are hitting the UK soon?

Jason Tilling

Whoa, this sounds incredibly interesting! Nice, Danny, nice!

Alex Castellanos

Wow. Very cool idea Danny. Enjoy your time in Knoxville.

Josh in Tampa

Now this is something I'd watch lol

This is gonna be great!

Brett Harrison

That is pretty dang cool as a side project!

Hassun

You've raised the freakin bar!! 😀

This is a brilliant idea I can't wait to see what comes out of it!
