Hey folks,
As I mentioned in yesterday's update, anyone who supports my work at $5 or more will now get to watch episodes of my new show 24 hours before they go public.
So here it is! The inaugural episode of Danny's Disk Club all about Climbing.
In this episode I look back at the history of climbing in games and examine how Breath of the Wild uses vertical world design to reward our thirst for exploration. The video also features analysis of Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed and of course a cameo from Marc EckΕ's Getting Up.
Enjoy the show, and let me know what you think.
[Just don't share it until tomorrow morning]
Danny
Lovely stuff. Good to remember that the original Assassin's Creed was undiluted and unsullied with its climbing mechanic before all those pesky sequels. And Zelda? Man, oh, man. Such an experience of climb!

This is great! I really can't wait for more. Keep up the good work Danny, but remember not to stretch yourself too thin! Stay healthy and sane. You do a LOT of work.

That was great Danny! I adore the climbing in Breath of the Wild. I really need to get back into it. I stopped to play Persona 5 and now that I'm done I'm free to explore Hyrule again.

No, it sort of wouldn't work as a podcast with the way I reference visuals all the time. But we'll have more stuff going up on Noclip Pirate Radio in the next few weeks.

I'm sick of all this praise for AssCreed: Battlegrounds. Everyone knows Assassins Creed 19: War for Cybertron was the series peak

Great work Danny!

I didn't realise how much I missed this stuff until now. Great work, and erudite as ever. Referencing both Skinner boxes and Mark Ecko is definitely what I signed up for.

Really well done Danny, enjoyed it quite a bit. I loved Breath of The Wild it really felt like a breath of fresh air and a Studio Ghibli movie brought to life. Hopefully my question I asked on the Q&A post makes it to your next Q&A video, any idea how far out that video is?

Hey Danny - sorry to be a dick if this has been answered elsewhere or isn't relevant given your vision for the show, but just wondered if this will be available as a podcast?

Yea, keeping this stuff separate as I want to keep the Noclip channel to docs only. My own YouTube channel will be more curated from now on too. Thanks!
