Patron Q&A - Call for Questions!
Added 2017-07-20 17:41:10 +0000 UTC
Hey Patrons,
Alright, now that that's out in the open - let's do a Q&A!
Please post any questions you have in the comments box below and I'll answer as many of them as humanly possible in a Q&A early next week. We're flying away for the two weeks that Friday so feel free to get as deep as you want into The Witcher stuff, or feel free to ask other stuff too. Truth is we have a couple of plates spinning right now so there's plenty to chat about.
Oh, and welcome to all the new patrons at their tier! Really appreciate the support and I'm delighted to have you on board. This tier is sort of where all the magic happens so expect a bunch of exclusive video on here over the coming weeks.
Okay. Questions. Get em in!
Danny
Something I think about from time to time that worries me: How will I play video games when I'm 80 years old and have arthritis? If I'm old and bed-ridden most of the time, I'll want to play a ton of games, but can my hands handle it? Or should hardware devs work on a product for all of us to use 20-40 years from now? Thanks!

Danny, any thought on potentially covering e-sports? This topic is close to my heart because I grew up spending time at gave clubs and Internet cafes playing Red Alert, CS 1.6, L4D and etc. and recently e-sports blew up with major NFL, NBA and Euro-Cup franchises stepping into the space...

My question is unrelated to vid games biz.
What are you currently listen to in terms of music? Do you listen to newer music when you are in a certain mood a la baby driver or more so whatever is playing on the radio. Recently for myself I have been listening to jay som and haim, both bands creating excellent summer vibes.

What editing software do you use and how did you go about learning to use it? Looking for recommended ways to learn the craft.

Hey Danny! You might have heard this question before, but if not - favourite videogame-related documentary? In regard to that, did that favourite inspire you to produce your own videogame-related documentaries? Keep up the excellent work, sir!

Got one regarding the Kinda Funny Games Daily (got to know them because of you, really great channel, watch them all the time now :D). So, for the question, how do you like it? I loved the lobby when you were the host, guess this is kinda similar for you? Is it a lot of work?

Curious to know if you'll ever do documentaries about some of the industry events themselves such as E3, GDC, EVO or even some of the award shows. I think it could be interesting to see how some of these events started and the hurdles they had to go through to make them happen as well as seeing the people behind them and hearing what they think of the industry. It could also be interesting to see and hear from the developers you have already interviewed or will be interviewing on their thoughts about these big industry events and how they think they could be improved upon. Lastly I'm curious if you'll ever do anything on small but passionate gaming communities kind of like the Smash Brothers documentary on YouTube but with other communities. I apologize for the long multi-layered question but either way I'm loving the work you do and I'm glad to contribute to the cause.

I've loved all your work with Gamespot, but particularly liked The Point, Bluffers Guide/EFMS, Secret Code etc. While I'm enjoying the noclip content, do you have any plans to do some that aren't so interview focused? I always liked your take on video game history and developments, and feel that NoClip at times has very little 'Danny' to it. Often I enjoyed your work on games I don't like personally because I liked hearing what you had to say about it, but I feel the NoClip docs so far as almost TOO 'from the horses mouth', with not alot of your own personality and analysis, if that makes sense?

Hey Danny! Love what you have done so far and cannot wait for the Witcher 3 doc. Have you ever considered doing a doc about the rise of a certain indie studio such as Supergiant, Playdead, or Housemarque? It is interesting to see some small independent teams become tour de force in their respective genre, and it would be really cool to see the origin story of these studios as well as the business/development differences between an indie studio and a bigger AAA studio like Id or Square.

You've probably heard this a million times - But what's on your documentary wish list now that you've accomplished so much in your first year?

Hey Danny,
In the instance where you didn't get the gamespot job or likewise, did you have a backup career and what would you do differently if you could relive life all over , would it be the same or different.
Cheers, Adam from Australia (p.s fingers crossed you make it to PAX Aus in October!)

Hey Danny, was wondering if you were thinking about doing a 50 cent: blood on the sand documentary at some point? If that's not a possibility, on a related topic I think a look at the dimise of middle-tier game development could be interesting to tackle, maybe in the new The Point?

How do you feel about revisiting a documentary that GameSpot Danny made?

Hi Danny. The Witcher 3 is my first go into the series, and I'm considering picking up the novels the series is based on. Question about the documentary: Will it cover the GWENT game as well? After playing Witcher 3, I fell in love with this in-game card game. Another side question could be why CD Projekt RED has not released a physical version of the game? As far as I know, physical copies of GWENT I see are all fan-made. I'm looking forward to this next documentary and others. Thanks.

Hey Danny. What's your thoughts on the current state of the game 'journalism' in the big gaming sites at the moment? Also how did you feel when there was so much click-bait stories being published? E.g. The PS v Xbox stuff that used to make an appearance way too often. Thanks for all the great content, it's of such high quality that you're the first person/team/project I've ever backed. Cheers M

Hey Danny ! Curious to know, after having a good amount of projects under NoClips belt, do you feel this is the kind of work you've wanted to do since you started in the industry? Or did you envision something different for your future when you started? Loving the content dude, stoked for the witcher stuff!

Hey Danny! Love the work you've done so far, but I have to ask, will you be continuing your Ocarina of Time playthrough any time soon? It was probably my favorite non documentary thing you've done so I'd love to watch you keep playing it.

Bonus Question: Any plans to talk to the Superhot Team while in Poland?

What was the moment you said 'Fuck it, I'm doing it' and walked away from Gamespot to start Noclip? I know the Overwatch series at GS was very popular, but was there a view count, a person, or an event that pushed you over the edge past the fear of striking out on your own?

Would you ever consider submitting a no clip doc to a film festival? I know your work certainly speaks for itself and each new project helps open new doors, just like working for gamespot helped open the door for no clip. However, if you win some film awards on top of everything you've built it could be a way to push your work even further, even festivals at a local level would be interesting! Also, can Jeremy do another Q&A soon?

Also wondering about PAX West like the person above. I also wanted to say that my favourite project is the mystery in games 3 part series. I would love to see more projects like that.

Hey Danny! I know your scope for noclip is strictly to present great video game stories to your patrons ad-free. I'm wondering if you ever get any pushback from developers because of your focus. Are devs/publishers (especially larger ones) more reluctant to work with you because of your focus on patrons instead of a larger set of viewers? And to that end, how did you get Square Enix on board with the FFXIV doc? Were they interested in telling the story as part of marketing their new expansion Stormblood? How did that deal come about, if you're allowed to talk about it? Anyway keep up the great videos. I am exceedingly happy to support you and love everything you've done so far!

With regard to the Witcher Games, the omission of Leo Bonhart from the games seemed strange given what a big character he was.. do they regret leaving him out or was it purely for narrative reasons?

For me was how organized and polite everyone was. Plus the smoking corners in the street.

CDPR has discussed how their tool set has been developed to speed up overall development time, i.e. their dialog animation automation tools. How do they balance tool development vs asset development time, and are there any other cool tools they have developed to improve things?

Man, great work so far! Are you a Twisted Metal fan by any chance? Can you please add this series to your long list of project ideas? And, when you get to it please mention Twisted Metal 2 on PC. THANKS!! -Anthony (Btw, going to Ireland in October!)

Hey Mr. O'Dwyer! First I want to once again thank you for taking my question during E3. Next I want to express I'm excited for the upcoming series on the Witcher, as having never played the games, I'm hoping to get as much insight into them as I did for Rocket League and Final Fantasy XIV. Finally, my question: You mentioned on a recent appearance of the Kinda Funny Gamescast how you are now being pitched more than you are the one doing the pitching. I understand you can't divulge what and who is being pitched, but can you reveal how many projects you are currently in discussions for and/or have confirmed (Witcher and other secret project en route included)? Thanks for taking my question if you do and have a wonderful day!

As you approach the end of Noclip year 1, what's something you would have done differently in retrospect, as you started on this project?
(Bonus question: What are the chances of a Noclip PUBG tourney?)

Any plans to do anything with Vlambeer? If you've not heard the story of Ridiculous Fishing you should check it out. Very interesting story that has a lot to do with video game intellectual property.

Hello from Scotland! I was curious on what you plan to do down the line with Noclip, whether you would go down the path of maybe getting offices and expand to more people or continue with the guerrilla filming (don't know the word) you currently have and keep things small?
