FINAL FANTASY XIV Documentary Part #3 - "The New World"

YOUTUBE LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONT6fxiu9cw

Hey Patrons,

Here we are then. The final part of our series on FINAL FANTASY XIV, we focuses on the time after the launch of A Realm Reborn up until now. We've also put some extra work into the subtitles for this one as we had some feedback that the previous episode was hard to follow (we're going back to clean that one up now too).

Months ago you asked me if we'd ever cover a game in Japan. I also remember being asked if I'd cover a series I was unfamiliar with. It's these questions that excite me as a producer, and ultimately led to us flying to Tokyo to tell this story. So I just want to thank you all for pushing me, and Noclip, into exciting (and scary) new directions.

You are creative partners in this endeavor and together there is nowhere we can't take this exciting new form of games coverage.

Enjoy the show.

Danny

FINAL FANTASY XIV Documentary Part #3 - "The New World"

Comments

Well, I just finished watching all 3 parts and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I have no interest in FF games, but the story was universal and inspiring. Well done!

I was in college when these games came out, so I didn't have the time to play them, but followed them closely. I just found the time to sit down and watch this and the behind-the-scenes look was fascinating! Already looking forward to the next doc series.

Really awesome series! Amazing story, great people on the development team, plus Noclip stepped it up really well. Thank you for letting us be part of the project and let's all enjoy the summer!

[So, to the best of my recollection here's my earlier comment which appears to have vanished...] Thoroughly enjoyed Episode 3. Well done Danny! A return to form. The captions were vastly improved. A couple of errors: 03:01 When I through about what we we've gone through 21:40 stil change more There was more back-and-forth in the interview segments which made them more engaging. Summarising the interviewees' views in your own words worked just fine. Cutting away more added visual interest. Did they say the relaunch took 3 years? I don't really see how that qualifies as the miraculous transformation it was billed as if so. Interesting to hear that technical issues with server load were still an issue second time around. You might have challenged them on that, but awkward in translation I guess. On the evidence of these 3 episodes it seems that telling a positive story is much easier than telling a negative one. Hard to explain the difference in quality between this episode and the first. I can only guess that Square Enix had serious issues with Episode 1 which required last minute revision. It's a shame they got cold feet if so since a greater understanding of the problems involved in the initial game release would have increased our respect for their subsequent efforts I think. Perhaps I'm reading too much into it. Much better choice of footage to illustrate the ideas throughout this final episode. The background music was balanced well in the mix throughout and didn't intrude - hurrah! Was that a pitch for a new job from Yoshida at the end? :-)

Loved this series and have referred it to people who did not know Noclip before and they loved it as well. The one thing (after the subs have already been adressed) I would wish for future documentaries is that you put up names and roles of of interviewees each time you cut back to them. People like Yoshida-san sure, but some others I recognized their faces and general roles but it would be nice to be reminded again.

Great final part! Lovely to see Yoshida-san open up more in this one. Nice pun at the end! ;)

That's a relief to hear. Delighted you liked the videos 🤗

Noclip

Thanks so much for your support and I wish you the best of luck in achieving that. Hopefully we're paving the way for more people to be able to do this.

Noclip

No, I never do, what have you that idea?

Noclip

Quite possibly the greatest video game doc series. Thanks, Danny.

Clay A Binkley

Great work Danny! The trust that we have put in you is returned ten fold today!

Mattias Lundqvist

Er, you're deleting/hiding patron comments now? Seems a little unreasonable.

Danny, you are a huge inspiration to me as someone currently studying film and video in college that would love to be an independent and financially stable producer in the future. It makes these years of school and massive amounts of debt worth it. Thank you!

I'm a little at a loss for words, to be honest. Amazing work on this series.

Kristopher

Can't wait to watch later this morning!

Alex Van Aken

Wow. Great stuff.

Piotr Kostecki

Unbelievable work, Danny. Well fucking done. Such a beautiful story too. The "1.0 ending as lore canon" thing I had NO idea about. That interests the HELL out of me👏👏

Liam Harvey

I'm not really an mmo player but holy crap, you weren't lying when you said this would be the best thing you've done so far. Fantastic work, guys. Can't wait to see what you do in the future.
