FINAL FANTASY XIV Documentary Part #1 - "One Point O"

YOUTUBE LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xs0yQKI7Yw4

Hey Patrons.

I'm about to make the first part of our FINAL FANTASY XIV video live, but I just want to take a moment to say one thing; thank you so much.

When I started Noclip, I was hoping that a few people around the world would be interested in watching some in-depth interviews around games. I knew that maybe we'd have to stay local to California, and we might not have the resources to do them exactly the way I wanted to. But thanks to your incredible support, we are already making projects that were beyond my wildest hopes.

Flying to Japan with a crew to film for a week is an incredible costly endeavor.  We simply could not have done this project without your support. This story may never have been told by the people we talked to, without your support. I hope you realize, whenever you watch our videos that you made this happen. So once again, from the bottom of my heart; thank you, for making these happen.

I really hope you enjoy the show.

Your grateful host,
Danny

FINAL FANTASY XIV Documentary Part #1 - "One Point O"

Comments

Fantastic work Danny. Keep it up.

I had no problems reading / following the subtitles, granted I usually play video games with subtitles on, I watch foreign language films and I've watched a lot of subbed anime.

Danny, the production value is up and up! Love the intro and the picture. The story itself is pretty fascinating. I've never played this game but I have a weird feeling of missing out on being part of that crazy roller coaster of emotions that those core players had to go through

Tohir Tillyaev

I agree. Cool effect in theory. Watching the video, though, it was really distracting.

Those anonymous office backdrops again... Authentic I'm sure, but visually entertaining it ain't. I felt sorry for the people who had to work there by the end of it. No time for set dressing in a foreign city I suppose. The commentary when it came was welcome.

Great doc! It would've been nice if there was a version with an English translation voice over during the Japanese parts. It's nice to hear their inflections, but the inflections are mostly lost while reading the subtitles. I love to read, but I leave my reading to books and articles. I can't stand foreign films because I'm trying to watch a film, not read a book. Translation seems like a difficult problem to solve.

I can't tell if the scrambling colors are an intentional effect or the video glitching. It's kinda distracting if it's intentional.

I enjoyed it... But those subs were hard to read and included loads of grammatical and syntax errors. Considering how you spoke about how much effort that went in to them, that effort was not evident on the screen. Also having large portions of quite dry Japanese spoken into camera (while trying to follow the difficult to pass subs) with little commentary or cut away does not make interesting watching. So over all I was a little disappointed but I look forward to part 2 and 3 with the hopes it will be a little more even.

Wow. Such a great job Danny. I'm not an MMO player but I found this enthralling. Can't wait for the next 2 parts. Thanks!

This is fantastic, well done! So happy to support you fine folks and the work you're doing. FF isn't a series I've ever connected with, but I'm enthralled by the story - the human story - behind it.

Kerrald

This is fantastic Danny, I can't wait for parts 2 & 3.

Chris McCarthy

Man this may make me resub to FFXIV.

Justin Dotson

Nice idea to have Kevin interviewed as well, but Kevin is living in Ghent, Belgium now working with Larian, so not really an option I'm afraid. I also think this is more about telling the developers' side of the story.

Bavo Debraekeleer

Great production quality as always! Love the intro! Can't wait for the other parts. I haven't followed this story at all, so I'm very curious to see what they did to make such an incredible rebound.

Bavo Debraekeleer

Interviewing a few people outside the company to get a more rounded appreciation of the problems this game faced on release would have been valuable I think. Good to see a contemporary Gamespot review, but hearing Kevin's own recollections might have added perspective. The beta tester's comments on YouTube cast doubt on the executive version. Structurally that localisation guy's backstory sits oddly at a crucial point in the narrative. I enjoyed your own narration and pieces to camera. I know you'd been talking about nailing the captions for some time so not sure what happened there... hectic last-minute schedule? Looking forward to Part II.

I have just recently fallen out with XIV as I really need to focus on actual life and stuff but I'll say that the game is just top notch. Happy to see its unique story being told to people around the world. Thanks for all you do Danny.

Yeah, I noticed 2 or 3 of those myself. Little things like a sentence starting with "They" instead of "There" and the like, which could be easily read through and still be understandable. Really great first part! :D

Kristopher

This is brilliant, Danny - each doc somehow seems to be better than the last. I know nothing about FFXIV, but found this fascinating.

Incredible work Danny. I'm not an MMO player, but the behind the scenes story of FFXIV is one I've been wanting to know for quite a while. At the very least, it's nice to know Squeenix has really good leaders like YoshiP at the helm.

Really been looking forward to this one! Can't wait to catch parts 2 and 3!

Keith A. Lewis

Besides some subtitle timing problems and a few grammatical/spelling errors, really great first part Danny, looking forward to parts 2 and 3!

Nicholas

Danny this is really great. Really looking forward to the rest of these, and I never even played any FF games!

It's here! Yes! Now I don't know if I should play the game or watch this tonight. Decisions, decisions....

Korphyn

Just finished watching it. Bravo!

Kristopher

Looking forward to it, but it'll have to wait until after midsummer celebrations

Looking forward to watching this after work today 😁😁

Amy Gilroy

YAAAAAY.. Gonna give this beauty a watch right now. Just wanted to quickly chime in and say that literally (and I mean LITERALLY) I'd just added FFXIV to my Steam cart and thought about the doc probably dropping soon. Seconds later I get this lovely Patreon notification πŸ‘Œ

Liam Harvey

Oh awesome, can't wait to check this out later.

pauljeremiah

Awesome! Going to see if I can watch this with my sister later today. We both love Final Fantasy but never played the MMOs. Excited to share it with her.

David Childs

Something for me to watch this evening after work! I can't wait.

B&L

Great timing! Right about when I am heading home from work!
