Hey patrons!
Okay, I've been dying to talk about this for a while, but didn't want to count the video chickens before they video hatched. Thankfully that's no longer a worry! Video chickens everywhere!
Right after the DOOM 2016 docs went live we had loads of people requesting Noclip hunt down game industry legend and id co-founder John Romero. Knowing that he had recently moved to Ireland I reached out to his wife, famed developer Brenda Romero, to see if we could shoot something while I was in the country for the holidays. After some scheduling, and changes to myself and my wife's flight plans, we organized that I'd visit their office in Galway at the start of January.
Upon hearing about my shooting plans my parents decided they wanted to come along for the trip, so I'm currently in a hotel with my wife and parents in Galway. In January. And I just had lunch with John Romero. In Ireland.
Life is weird.
But hold your horses for a second. This is not the announcement of Project Three. We'll get to that later this month. This video is actually the launch of a brand new format for Noclip. One I've been planning since this whole venture started.
When Noclip launched I talked about wanting to tell the stories of game makers and the people who play them; designers, streamers, YouTubers, artists, musicians, and gamers all over the world. Not every project we do can be a three part epic. Not all stories need that level of detail. Some are as simple as a conversation. And my conversation with John Romero today will be the first episode in Noclip's Profiles.
We talked about everything from life in Ireland to Wolfenstein, DOOM, Quake and beyond. It's not an exhaustive look into his life (that's already been written ) but it's a window into his life and design philosophies that I'm sure you'll find interesting. I had hoped to record one about Brenda too, but sadly she was ill today and couldn't participate.
Expect John's Profile later this month with a runtime somewhere between 40 and 60 minutes. In the meantime we're hard at work organizing multiple interviews for Project Three which we will be shooting all through January.
Okay, family wants to grab dinner so I better post this.
Thank you all so much for making this happen. All the kit I was able to buy when we broke that funding goal was what allowed me to shoot and produce this one all on my own. I can't wait to start editing in a few days.
If you have any questions / comments, stick them down below.
And yea, the two of them are badass.
Talk soon!
Danny
