YT Insights #6 – The CTR Secret (Make people CLICK)

In this entry we’ll talk about getting viewers to click on your video.

It doesn’t matter if you made the best video in the world. It will struggle if your packaging (thumbnail + title) doesn't convey a clear idea of:

-WHAT the video is about

-WHY your audience should click on it

We need to understand YouTube users don’t see your great video behind the click. They only see your title and thumbnail.

YT Insights #5 – Traffic Sources

Let’s talk about each of the Traffic Sources on YouTube.

Understanding where your traffic is coming from can help you make decisions on how to improve the performance of a video, what new ideas to tackle in other videos, or what value your community sees in your channel.

We’ll also look at how to optimize your videos for the most important sources. I don’t recommend trying to optimize for more than one traffic source. As you read this it’ll become clear why it is very ...

Patreon Video #18 - How to Paint/Draw Photo-Studies the RIGHT Way

In this video I will show you my approach to painting/drawing studies from real life.

The biggest mistake I see beginner artists make when doing this is to draw symbols that they have learned over the years, instead of copying what is actually in front of you.

I learned to break free by 'shifting gears' using the right side of the brain to draw literally what we are seeing. This will allow you to absorb from repetition, and create your own drawing style!

YT Insights #4 – Busting 10 YouTube Myths

There is an endless stream of terrible advice about YouTube floating around the internet, especially in places where you would think you’d find the right answers, like the ‘PartneredYoutube’ and ‘NewTubers’ subreddits.

Today I will bust the most common myths and misconceptions about YouTube.

*I’ll be using several channels as examples in this post. It is NOT my intention to call out anyone’s mistakes. In fact, I would recommend you go and wat...

YT Insights #3 - How Does the Algorithm ACTUALLY Work?

In past posts we have talked about how CTR, AVD and Viewer Satisfaction 'affect' your video’s performance. Let’s understand WHY by explaining How YouTube’s infamous Algorithm works.

First, you need to understand what happens when You open the YouTube app on your phone or TV, or visit youtube . com

In a split second YouTube decides, out of all the videos in the platform, which are the best options to show YOU personally, to hopefully ensur...

YT Insights #2 - The 3rd Hidden Signal: Viewer Satisfaction (this is real)

There is a third hidden signal that the algorithm uses to detect a promising video, we’ll look at its history, and why we can’t really measure it.

Welcome to ‘Viewer Satisfaction’.

Very quick history lesson to understand why this even exists:

In the early days of YouTube there was no algorithm, everything was based on the number of views a video had. People quickly figured out that the more click-baity you could b...

YT Insights #1 – The 2 Signals Youtube Gives You (and why you should care)

Going into your YT Studio dashboard, it is no accident that the 2 performance metrics that you get from your latest upload are: Impressions Click-through Rate and Average View Duration.

If your video performs well in these 2 metrics, your video will get more views. Let's start with the Basics.

Impressions Click-through Rate (CTR)

First, we need to understand the difference between IMPRESSIONS and VIEWS.

Impressions are when YouTube literall...

Patreon Video #17 - 10 Lessons I Learned From Student to Animator

Full recording of the webinar I gave at George Mason University on November 2021.

This talk was the original inspiration behind the latest video I posted on 'Achieving Your Art Goals'.

While they start similarly, this one includes lots of things I couldn't fit into the video,
including practical advice and several other stories.

These are the 10 lessons I learned from Student to Animator.

New video on Achieving Your Art Goals! (and how I failed while doing it)

New video on the channel. This was actually one of the first videos I wanted to make. I hope you can find my story useful for your journey.

I truly believe YOU can accomplish the goals you've set to pursue! What we need to do is deploy Patience and Consistency.

(Yet again, the hardest I've worked on a video 'so far' haha)
Don't aim for the truck!

Teaser: Next Video on Achieving Your Art Goals

Finished the edit for our next video on Achieving Your Art Goals.

It's the hardest I've worked on a script/edit (so far!)
But there were some scenes where I just couldn't convey the story without animating some short scenes. Here's a teaser of a couple!

I decided to go for a UPA (United Productions of America) style, and its been a blast!

This video is very dear to my heart, and I'm hoping its message will reach you, can't wait to show you more! Aimin...

April 2023 Update - Channel Dubs Progress

Manu here with an update on this month’s progress!

I’ve been working with 7 talented voice actors to dub my entire YT catalogue.

I’m doing my own voice (which is over 3 hours of recordings so far). But I was surprised with how many extra people my videos feature!

Just between 4 videos I had to dub 19 people + myself.

I know most people here do not speak Spanish, but part of my mission when I started a YouTube channel was to guarantee my cont...

Animation Vault #10: Memories for Sale Hospital Rotation

The most time-consuming scene from my first film. For the BG I used a 360° grid, being careful not to leave a seam where it repeats itself. Through out the entire post  production, levels are changing to emulate how the camera moves around the room, filming the window, and then filming the dark part off the room.

Can't wait to animate more stuff like this!!

Animation Vault #9: Memories for Sale Car Rotation

One of the most complex scenes from my first film. For it I used a 360° grid and drew the car over and over again, moving it a tiny bit to the left each time, so it feels like the camera is moving past the car to the side.

Learnt a crazy ton from it!! (But if I had to do it again I would use 3D HAHA)
