Part Two of our DOOM Documentary is LIVE!

YOUTUBE LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsoVQWnSOfM

Hey friends,

In my haste to get the closed captions done for our hard of hearing and foreign friends, I totally forgot to post this update this morning. Apologies! It's been a pretty crazy week to be fair, with a groundswell of coverage of the docs which has resulted in an influx of new subs, patrons and all the bureaucratic issues that arise from that.

So if you're a new patron and this is your first update, welcome! Thanks for joining our community and helping to grow this new type of game coverage. We're delighted to have you along for the ride. You can expect extra treats including behind-the-scenes video, extented interviews, and Q&As in a few days. I usually take a day off after the final video to get my brain back in order.

Anyway, on to the point at hand. As promised, Hugo Martin features prominently in this episode as he and Marty dive into the story of the game, and the design of it's opening level. Patrons will know that this was an idea that was never planned - and happened organically through my interviews with the team.

Getting down to Dallas for two full days on such short notice (it was confirmed within a week of us traveling) is a direct result of the funding we've gathered here on Noclip. So this project, and this episode in particular, happened because of you.

So thank you very much, and we hope you enjoy. Let me know what you think! Part three will be live tomorrow (Wednesday) at 9AM Pacific time.

See you then!

Danny

PS: The podcast feed with all this stuff will be set up in the next week too.

I have this whole documentary looping as background noise while I bugtest RimWorld.

This part 2 was amazing, I've seeing 4 times already

Outstanding work! And congratulations, I've signed up to Patreon just for you - such content as this is well worth paying for and I can well understand why you wanted to create noclip.

Rob Baker

Superb. I could have listened to those 2 guys talk about that opening level for hours!

Kev Dellaq

The candor and insight into game design this soon after a game release is really refreshing. Shining a light on those who create the games we love is amazing! Thanks Danny.

Amazing work -- can't wait for more. I know your content will only get better and better and more varied as time goes on, but this is an incredibly strong start!

I'm enjoying these, but do you think it's sufficiently distinctive in tone and content from what traditional games media are doing? Hope you get a chance to break out a bit with the next project once you've 'proved' yourself to the industry. Visually, might an additional camera add variety to the desk-based talking heads and give you more options in the edit?

Amazing episode! Can I just say too, how glad I am that this "unexpected" episode on specific game design choices (especially here on such a great intro) is the sweet sauce I've been after. I love deep dives from other critics, but to come directly from the devs themselves? That's fucking NICE.

Looking forward to the final episode.

These are the coolest things to watch at the moment.

Man this episode is amazing. I can totally see people studying it as they prepare their games for the release, which I think was exactly our goal - redefining video games journalism. I'm really proud to be part of this. Great job man!

As I said earlier these docs are awesome. What I especially enjoyed from this episode in particular is the subtleties and nuance that goes into immediately jumping into the bloodshed. And it's sooooooo good. Thanks again Mr. O'Dwyer and my thanks to everyone at id for allowing you such great access.

Outstanding. This is the kind of documentary I've been wanting to see for SO long. I was expecting these to be interesting and well-produced but this exceeded all my expectations. When the DOOM video was announced the first thing I thought of was wanting to see whoever was responsible for that opening 5 minutes explain the thought behind it, and that's exactly what this is. AWESOME.

Fantastic stuff dude - this was super insightful into that awesome first level. Cool to so what it could have been. Keep up the awesome work!
