Attached are some photos from the 40 acre parcel we are moving towards purchasing in March. It has a number of rare plants on it including Asclepias prostrata and Physaria thamnophila. It also has a ton of buffel grass which we will need to remove. I am extremely excited about this, as it gives us an opportunity not just to restore a piece of degraded land (half of it was root-plowed 20 years ago), but it gives us a chance to eventually share this land with others. We've had many hiccups, namely in dealing with 3rd party money-taking institutions like Venmo and Cashapp, but are finally verified and have set up a bank account using the kind friends at Morningstar Conservancy as our fiscal sponsor.
If all goes well, we will be building a visitor center with a library that can serve as both a headquarters and a research station. The property will need to fenced and have trails built, but at some point we hope to be one of the only, if not THE only, educational center about the Thornscrub habitat of South Texas.
