50 minutes of North Florida Plants

Worth all the chigger bites. Sandscrub arid microsites in otherwise mesic forests enable some incredible diversity, where one encounters plants with traits not normally seen in forested areas or even savannahs. Hairs on leaves, glaucous foliage, drought-strategies - all are seen in this video.

We also check out a Taxodium ascendens swamp and some bizarre fungi that infect members of the blueberry order and mimic flowers (Exobasidium species).

I've come to love the longleaf pines and swamps of the Florida-Bama area. I'll revisit this video when I go down this May to visit my mother on Oskaloosa Island!

I spent a lot of time in the boring old people part of Florida, but I did do some boardwalks where you couldn't hear a human made sound at all and it was heaven except for those goddamned huge spiders that spin giant webs across everything. Maybe it's different in the panhandle. I hung out in Hernando County where things were bleak.
