The Crown and The Queen:
The tree stretched its limbs into the darkness, branches fading into black as it climbed from the dead grounds beneath it. Its two hearts lay still wrapped in old twine, held against its hull, yet lifeless in the cold. The roots dug deep into the wet ground, covered in leaves that have fallen from ages ago as blood from those who worship the tree soaked into the bark and grounds around it, giving the tree its life. The air is cold here. No sound comes from the dark, as its empty being consumes everything around it. Yet the tree somehow breaks free of the darkness, softly illuminating its surroundings in low light. You can faintly make out its limbs far above the ground disappearing into the black. They say it stretches miles above the darkness, creating webs of limbs throughout limbo, yet no one knows how far it really reaches. The crown was born from its branches, twisting and curling spines wrapped in flesh of old. The crown is a relic, forged in limbo from those who have taken their lives. It draws those from limbo to the base of the tree. Vanity sins throughout its being. Vanity takes hold of the people, driving them mad, crawling and tumbling over each other to hold its power. To rule over Vanity. To be Queen of these darkened lands. To be Queen of limbo.
...
My crown
Dark and filled with red of old
I place the spines upon my head
I am filled with vanity
My beauty reaches up beyond the dark around me
The trees hearts beat to my heart, and I rule all
And all of limbo crawls to me
As they scrape across the dirt, grasping and clawing to me
For they are jealous of my crown
This crown of red
Taunting these jealous empty husks that surround me now
As red hands reach forward, climbing higher toward my crown
No longer my crown
No longer my limbo
...
Why does she hold this thing of beauty
Why am I drawn to its being, as it fills my head with spite
My arms reaching up toward it as so thousands of others around me
My body aches for it
My hands tremble for its touch
To lay its spines upon my head
Just one more body to climb over
And it will be mine
