My older sister, a teenager, used to wear circle skirts and she’d wear multiple petticoats under them that she would starch and iron so they stood out. I was sincerely envious of those petticoats because as a child I was stuck with dresses, not separates. ( my good shoes were patent leather mary janes. Real patent- they would crack, not like today’s plastic ones.
