So our author may be drawing from that mythos. Remember that in this mythos, most things about werewolves are crap, outside of a werewolf bite creating another werewolf.

I'm going with the theory they're either aliens, robots, or--the oddball theory they're also were-critters but are doing something to suppress their urges like taking were-ritalin or some crap which explains their reserved and unnerving behaviors.
