It's no secret that the economy has changed the way we think about employment. With traditional jobs becoming increasingly scarce due to automation, more and more people are turning to alternative career paths.
Meet Jordan, a 23-year-old college graduate who was struggling to find work in her field as a graphic designer. Desperate for a job, she stumbled upon an advertisement for a new type of employment - as a star in a mukbang booth.
For those few who are perhaps unfamiliar with this concept, a mukbang booth is a glass-enclosed room where customers can watch someone eat large quantities of food. In this case, that "someone" is Jordan, who signed a five-year contract to be fed massive amounts of food all day long.
There are as many tastes as there are people. Jordan personally loves to indulge in rich and decadent desserts, with her favorite being the classic strawberry cheesecake, preferably with a generous helping of whipped cream. However, she's also open to trying new and interesting flavors that customers can select and customize for her through the booth screen.
The more Jordan eats, the heavier she gets, and the more popular she becomes with her fans, who then in return feed her even more expensive and rich delights.
At first, Jordan was hesitant to take on such an unconventional job. But after seeing the potential for financial success, she decided to give it a try. Let's just say, eventually she grew into it.
She struggled at first as a slender newcomer who wasn't accustomed to her new cake-heavy diet. Her body resisted. It took her almost six months to gain her first 100 pounds, she recalls, but then almost overnight, everything changed.
"I'll never forget this one evening when a smartly dressed woman bought me cake after cake until I was bursting at the seams. I thought I was going to pop. I was mortified. I didn't know what to do. If I pressed the 'emergency' button to stop orders that would be my third strike within six months and I'd be fired. It was a tense moment."
Jordan apparently kept swallowing as the lady kept buying her even more cakes. She didn't remember much of the rest of the night, but the next day she realized something had changed. As if her body had finally adapted to the demands of her job, and she became constantly ravenous. From that day forward she started gaining weight very rapidly, breaking through the 500-pound mark even before her first year was over, and her popularity as a mukbang star skyrocketed.
Now, almost two years later, Jordan is about to reach an astonishing 900 pounds and is close to filling up the entire booth with her massive, constantly hungry, and many would say radiant body.
While some may view Jordan's job as controversial or even exploitative, she couldn't be happier.
"I never thought I'd find a job that allows me to eat as much as I want and get paid for it," she said. "It's a dream come true."
And for those concerned about her health, Jordan assures them that she's in good shape. "I make sure to keep myself well hydrated with heavy cream. Plus, I have to keep growing for work, so it's not like I'm just sitting around and eating all day out of boredom. I consider myself more of an athlete, like a bodybuilder."
According to her contract, Jordan will be relocated from Earth to Luna City once she surpasses the 900-pound mark. This is to ensure that she can safely continue her expanding journey in one-sixth of Earth's gravity.
"That's just a few cakes away. Do you want to watch?"
Jordan said that she hopes to double in size once she becomes accustomed to life on the Moon, as her former roommate and mukbang booth alumni, Emily, has done very successfully.
"It's so easy to lose any self-control when you can lift your ass from the ground again."
If you're craving cake but don't want to sabotage your diet, head over to the local mukbang show. Let girls like Jordan fill the booth with their insatiable appetites, (and their rears), all guilt-free.
Or perhaps you'd like to join the team and be part of a growing business. As the Mukbang Booth website says, 'We are always expanding.'"
