"Honey come downstairs, guess who's outside? It's my ex-girlfriend Adele, she came by to say hi." https://www.tiktok.com/@jaxwritessongs/video/6916704080685583622

2025-05-12 21:04:13 +0000 UTCI'm pretty sure this is a me problem, but I just have never discovered a deep love of Amy Winehouse. Her songs are perfectly good, but I've never once had a desire to seek any of them out and listen to them on my own time. Whereas I absolutely have Water Under The Bridge, or Rumor Has It, or Someone Like You, or even Send My Love pop into my head on a semi-regular basis. In fact, just earlier this week I was listening to Someone Like You, which made this poll feel a bit like Todd was tracking my youtube history or something. I know I'm on the wrong side of history here, but at least the choruses here are great.

2025-04-29 03:37:11 +0000 UTCAdele's entire career only exists because of the foundation that Amy built and left behind way too soon. Both are great songs, but "Someone Like You" can't touch what "Back to Black" did. There's a pain and a darkness to "Back to Black" (both within the song and the real life pain and darkness within the woman who made it) that "Someone Like You" just doesn't have. I expect Amy to win this.

2025-04-28 23:52:45 +0000 UTCBack in Black, Amy was just a signluar talent with a voice that was an embodiment of blues and soul. I always in my mind paired up Someone like you with Alanis's You outta know. The subject just felt like the same person for me before and after.

2025-04-28 23:04:01 +0000 UTCi think what i love most about back to black is how it captures the feeling of having no control over your life, or even yourself. just resigned to the fact that you're going to make a terrible decision, and you're stuck in a self-destructive cycle. the line "life is like a pipe, and i'm a tiny penny rolling up the walls inside"...it hits.

2025-04-28 11:00:11 +0000 UTCAdele is probably the biggest UK artist that's come up in my lifetime, and none of the other contenders have albums that are such events as hers - not Ed or Harry or Dua - and its still not close, Amy is such a legend. If she was still alive it might be different, but she got that mythic quality you only really get with a tragedy.

2025-04-28 10:52:56 +0000 UTCanyway, amy JUST edges out for me because i have a special place in my heart for popular music about being a miserable trainwreck. the songs that really, genuinely Go There. same reason i love Chandelier and Just Like A Pill
